Chapter 1074: Blood it is
Meanwhile…
[Jonathan Pierson, this is good… but if you’re coming here as Zoren Pierson’s brother, this is nothing.]
[This is what you call a day’s work? Hah. Good luck! Pfft—this is not as fun as I thought it would be.]
[Are you out of your mind?! Your first day, and you’re making all those jerks look better than you? Hah! Jonathan Pierson, I’m starting to have second thoughts about our arrangements.] – William
CLANG!
Another innocent glass found itself hitting the fireplace, shattering from both the impact and the heat. The alcohol made the fire blaze even wilder for a moment, casting light on the twisted look on his face.
“Those bastards…” he hissed, reminded of everything he had to endure that day at Pierson Corporation. Since Jonathan had no official position in the company and was only known as Zoren Pierson’s brother, the latter had “kindly” asked Atlas to find a position for him.
However, from what he had heard, Dean ambushed Zoren and Atlas in the CEO’s department and volunteered to handle Jonathan’s situation. So, in the end, it was Dean who was authorized to give Jonathan a position in the company. But Dean wouldn’t give it to him right away. Under the guise of “training,” Dean had dumped him with nonsensical files to work on in his department.
That was one thing, but the way Dean and even Atlas had been treating him was far too degrading for him to want them dead.
Jonathan slowly clenched his hand into a tight fist until it shook, glaring at the fire in the fireplace. “Not to mention, even that William Pierson thinks he can just vent on me whenever he pleases.” He clenched his teeth, his heart burning with nothing but anger.
It had been a while since Jonathan had felt such rage.
“And this is all… because of her,” he whispered, thinking of Penny. “… If not for her and Finn, this would’ve been different.”
Initially, Jonathan didn’t think much about having Atlas join Pierson Corporation. If anything, it thrilled him, as he was looking forward to how the company would proceed. But alas, that night, he received terrible news about the Information Center.
All the people there had been arrested. Even though the place was raided because of alleged illegal gambling, it was still bad. The day after that, he received a call from Nina’s company and from Nina herself about transferring him to a new designer to handle the project. She said her reason was health issues, but he was no fool to believe that.
Everything was crumbling down, one after another.
“Everything…” he whispered. “… Everything I built just to avoid more bloodshed in this lifetime. But it seems they do not want the peaceful route.”
A dangerous glint flickered across his eyes, his jaw tightening as his shoulders shook with suppressed rage. As mentioned in the past, Jonathan had been avoiding what he had done in the past that contributed to his failure in his first life.
He only wanted a few people instead of the mass destruction that followed his plans in his first life. Not that he had caused all of those deaths; though he was the root cause of why everything unfolded the way it did, he wasn’t the only one to blame.
Yet Penelope was making that very challenging.
They wanted blood.
Very well.
“I’ll give them blood,” he whispered, his eyes resolute. “Blood it is.”
Knock knock
The murderous look in his eyes remained even with that knock, keeping his gaze fixed on the fire. But when he heard Cassandra’s voice, the look in his eyes disappeared in the blink of an eye.
“Joe,” Cassandra called as she slowly opened the door, peeking inside. Her brows furrowed the moment she saw some shards on the floor, and then she veered her gaze to where Jonathan was standing. “Did I come at the wrong time?”
His cold expression remained the same until a second later, when he said, “No, it’s the perfect time.”
“Oh, Joe,” she sighed, walking inside as she had wanted to console him. But as she did so, he rushed to her and met her halfway.
“Don’t go in,” he said, holding her arm. “I broke a lot of things. You might step on them.”
Cassandra pursed her lips, her eyes falling on the cut on his thumb. “You cut yourself.”
“Hmm?” Glancing at his finger, he chuckled and shrugged. “Must’ve cut myself, but it’s alright.”

“You didn’t notice?” she asked. “You must be very upset, then.”
“I am.”
“Come. I’ll clean it for you.”
Having said that, Cassandra held his hand and led him out of the study room, which he had turned upside down. It was surprising because she knew Jonathan as a gentle person. However, she also… she was also aware that there was a certain limit people could take before they blew up.
Jonathan had just joined the Pierson family, and he had joined as an illegitimate child of the most respected CEO to have ever led the family.
“All done,” she announced softly after cleaning his cuts and wrapping them with band-aids. She looked up at him, smiling. “Be careful, Joe.”
“I’m sorry,” he sighed, lowering his eyes to his fingers that had band-aids on them. The cuts did not surprise him; this was not the first time he had gotten hurt. It wasn’t even the fact that they were wrapped carefully so they could heal nicely.
What surprised him was the fact that these hands… had been too clean.
“Will you not ask me what happened?” he asked after a moment, lifting his eyes to meet hers. “You didn’t ask a question even when you saw how I trashed the study.”
Cassandra smiled at him. “It’s not the first time I’ve seen it.”
“Right…” he nodded. “Your grandfather?”
“Mhm.” She hummed, smiling at him. “Also, do I really have to ask when you’ve been very open with me and trusted me with everything? Knowing it’s a bad day at work is all I need.”
Jonathan smiled wryly at her. “It’s to be expected since I’m illegitimate. Don’t worry. I know this won’t be forever, hopefully. If I just show them that I bear no ill intentions, I’m sure they’ll realize that I simply came back because… I want to be with my family.”
“Joe…” Cassandra reached out to him, looking at him lovingly. A part of her felt sorry for him. Ever since Jonathan mentioned his situation, she had been curious about the Pierson family. It wasn’t like Cassandra was unaware of them, but she hadn’t tried to know more.
After asking around about the Pierson family, there was one thing she was certain of: they would never accept Jonathan. Unless he had more to put on the table. The Russel’s wealth was not enough.
“Joe,” she called quietly. “What you proposed last time… I’ve been thinking about it, and…” she paused, her lips curling up. “Let’s meet them — my parents and elders. I’ll introduce you to them.”
