Chapter 1076: I want to go home.
At the same time, in the safe house where Patricia was currently staying…
Patricia hugged her knees, her back against the headboard. She stared blankly at the wall across the room, her lips drawn into a tight line.
A few hours ago, when she went down to the kitchen for something to eat, she saw something… surprising. It was a pure coincidence because while waiting for the helper to prepare her snack, there was a sudden commercial news segment regarding Miller’s buyout.
Her brother and father had sold their company, making the Millers partners, but not owners. The news was big enough to make it to the commercial news. Since then, Patricia had been a little distraught. She hadn’t even touched the snack the helper had prepared.
“They sold the company…” she mumbled to herself. “… they sold it to the Bennets.”
Patricia clasped her shoulder tightly, her expression growing bitter and hateful. “And yet, they look so happy.”
It wasn’t that selling their company to the Bennets was the problem. It was the fact that her brother and father looked like fools!
Didn’t they hate the Bennets?
Wasn’t her father the one who disliked Charles Bennet and fed his children such hateful remarks about them?
Their family would never bow to anyone, yet, from what she saw, they looked like dogs wagging their tails to their new owner. The worst of all was that they didn’t even seem to notice her absence.
A scoff escaped her, her eyes reddening with frustrated tears. Patricia glanced at the bedside table, biting her bottom lip slightly. After a moment of contemplation, she reached for the drawer, revealing her phone with a cracked screen.
“Did they really… not look for me?” she wondered under her breath, holding the phone and staring at it. “Don’t they care?”
She didn’t know how long it had been since that incident, but she knew it had been quite a while. That also meant she hadn’t been checking her phone because she was scared. But now she was curious. With that in mind, Patricia searched the room for a charger. It took her some time to remember she had seen one in the bathroom.
For some reason, she didn’t know why it was there, but she didn’t care. Going to the bathroom and rummaging through the closet under the sink, she quickly spotted a charger that would fit her phone’s charging port.
“Is it still working?” she wondered to herself. “Angel gave me a new phone, but I don’t want to use it. Who knows? He might’ve installed something in it.”
Patricia was grateful for the help she had received from Angel that night. However, the more she thought about it and the more she locked herself away, the more questions filled her mind.
How did Angel find her?
How did he know what would happen?
Was everything part of a scheme?
Did Penny set her up? It wouldn’t be surprising if Penny did. After all, Penny had invited her to be her ally, which Patricia had obviously refused in her heart. Either way, she couldn’t trust anything anymore. Therefore, she was not only suspicious but careful. She couldn’t afford to be careless anymore because she didn’t want to go through that again.
“It’s taking time to power up,” she murmured, watching the blank battery sign on the cracked screen. “How did it even break? I don’t remember carrying it back then. Was it when I ran away from the car? Did it fall there?”
As she wondered about how the damage occurred, her brows rose. Slowly, she lifted her eyes, only to see herself in the mirror. Patricia froze the moment she saw her face. The little bruise on her face had healed, but…
Her eyes fell on her exposed arms. The bruises were still visible, though there were signs of healing. It wasn’t enough to be covered with makeup. Patricia pressed her lips together as she lifted her shirt, wincing as she gazed at her stomach. Unlike her arms, her stomach had more bruises — almost like every inch of it was purple. That also included her legs, as those were the places she had been beaten the most. The person who assaulted her had deliberately avoided her face for his sick and twisted reasons.
She had avoided the mirror since coming here because looking at herself reminded her of that traumatic incident. But for some reason, she found herself stripping in front of the mirror, slowly turning around to gaze at herself in the full-body mirror.
“And to think others had already healed…” she trailed off, her eyes scanning her bruised body. She barely recognized her own body with all these purple patches from her shoulders down to her feet. Not just bruises, but also some healing cuts and scratches on her once flawless knees.
She had gone through a lot — more than she could remember.
Her brows rose when she noticed her phone light up in the mirror. Turning around, Patricia rushed to the sink to check her phone.
“It’s still working,” she breathed out, her hands shaking as she entered her password and went straight to her messages.
This was on her mind: if her family sent her a message looking for her, it would be a relief. But if not…
“They… didn’t even send me one message?” she scoffed, checking the message logs again and even the call logs. She probably missed it because the screen was broken. But there was none. Not a single message from her family or a missed call. Nothing — no matter how many times she checked.

“…” Patricia stared at her phone blankly, her eyes welling with tears. “Seriously?”
It wasn’t that she didn’t expect this, but a part of her had hoped. As tears rolled down her cheek, her grip on the phone trembled. After a beat, she pulled her phone with her and sprinted out of her room. When she reached the entryway and saw the head butler of the villa, she stopped in front of him.
“Oh, Miss Patricia, do you need —”
“Where’s Angel?” she asked, her voice full of determination, a stark contrast to her tone just a few days ago. “Tell me, where is he?”
“Uh… Sir Angel just left…”
“Call him,” she ordered sternly. “Tell him I’m going home. I want to go home. If he doesn’t want me to, then I’ll call the police and report that I’m being held captive.”
