Chapter 1081: What was there to live for?
[Trigger warning: The chapter contains a sensitive topic. Proceed with caution.]
“Patricia Miller, get up there and get in the car.”
The moment their eyes met, Patricia felt an overwhelming rage in her heart.
“Didn’t I say go away!?” she yelled through gritted teeth, picking herself up and pushing him away with all her might. “Go away! Leave me alone! Are you stupid not to understand what I’m saying?! You’re not deaf, so why don’t you just listen?!”
Patricia kept throwing jabs at him, using all her strength to push him away. “Go away! I don’t need you or your stupid protection! Tell Penny to do something else! Don’t you people have anything else to do!? Why do you keep tormenting me?! Go away! Why did you even come back?! I don’t need you! I don’t need your pathetic sympathy!”
Yet, even with all her effort, Angel didn’t budge. It only made her feel more helpless and powerless. Why wouldn’t he go? Why was she so powerless?
“Go away…” she whimpered, launching another weak punch at his chest. “Leave… I don’t need you…”
Angel huffed in distress, clasping her wrist to stop her. “Get in,” he breathed out, watching her look up at him. “If you’ve vented enough, then get in the car.”
Her mouth quivered, biting her bottom lip as her vision blurred.
—
Patricia wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, keeping her head turned toward her side of the window. Her sniffles broke the stifling silence in the car every few seconds, making her want to stop her nose from running.
She didn’t agree to come with him, but he just dragged her with him, anyway. Hence, she was back in this car, heading to wherever he would take her. Probably back to the villa where he kept her after that incident.
“Stop now,” she whispered after a while, eyes still on the side of the road. “Just let me be. Drop me off.”
But Angel didn’t answer and just kept driving.
“Didn’t you hear me?” Patricia turned to the driver’s seat, her eyes full of bitterness and hatred. “Stop this car right now! This is abduction!”
Still nothing.
His lack of response and reaction only fueled the emotions in her heart. Patricia clenched her teeth tightly, reaching out for the steering wheel.
“I said stop! Why don’t you listen?!” she yelled, pulling the steering wheel.
Their vehicle careened from right to left, earning loud honks from other cars on the highway. Fortunately, the highway wasn’t too crowded.
“Stop — ah!!” A yelp escaped her mouth as he pushed her away with an arm, throwing her back into her seat.
“Stop!” Angel shouted, his voice sharp and echoing. He glared at her once before returning his gaze to the road. “Patricia Miller, stop now! Do you want to die!? Why would you try to steal the steering wheel?”
“Yes!” Overwhelmed with emotion, she yelled back. “Yes, I want to die!”
“What?”
“I hate everyone! I hate my life! Everything — I hate you, and everything! I just want to die!” Her voice pitched. “What’s there to live for anyway?! No one cares! If I have to live with these haunting memories in my mind, then I’d rather just die! So, let me go! Leave me alone! I don’t need you!”
Angel’s grip on the steering wheel tightened, his pupils constricting. His face hardened as his breath hitched while Patricia continued to scream. Clenching his teeth, he stepped on the pedal and drove at full speed.
In no time, Angel reached his destination, their car screeching to a full stop. Meanwhile, Patricia was still screaming nonstop. It was almost admirable how she could scream consistently without taking a break.
Angel huffed sharply once more, turning to the front passenger seat where she was. “Get out.”
“I said —” Patricia stopped, finally noticing the car had stopped. She looked up at the window and then at the windshield, furrowing her brows. This wasn’t the villa. It was a bridge.
“You want to die, then go ahead.” Angel’s cold voice made her turn to him, flinching upon seeing the dark expression on his face. “If you want to die so badly, then go ahead. Get out of here and jump over the river.”
“You think I won’t do it?”

Angel scoffed, unlocking the door. The click of all the doors unlocking made her glance at her door. Patricia hissed at this provocation.
“You think I won’t do it?” she mocked. “Fine. I’m going to die.”
Having said that, she reached for the door and jumped out of the car. Patricia didn’t hesitate to walk on the side of the bridge, stopping when she felt like it. Facing the railing and the river, her heart thudded painfully.
“Did he think I was kidding?” she grumbled, eyes ahead. When she looked over the railing a little, her heart almost dropped at the height. Even in the darkness, her body knew it would kill her.
Her hands on the railing started to tremble, shutting her eyes as she took deep breaths. She could feel her knees shaking, her body screaming at her not to do it. But then, she remembered everything.
Everything.
From that time Nina stabbed her in the back, to the time students she didn’t even know started hating her and making fun of her, to how her brother first raised his voice at her. Then, the look in Zoren’s eyes as he looked down at her as if she were nothing but an insect, the terrible comments she heard from the people she called friends, and the blatant mockery from others when they found out about the Miller family’s financial situation.
Then, the memories of that night when she was beaten to a pulp, almost violated, and nearly killed. Only to come home and see her family living the revived glory of their family without her.
She remembered everything, and now that she thought about it, it gave her the strength to go on with her plan.
What was there to live for?
Tears pooled beneath her eyelids, and when she opened her eyes, they streamed down her face. Looking ahead, Patricia raised her foot, trying to climb over the railing. But because of its height, she found herself falling back. She tried again and fell again.
She tried over and over, only to fall back onto the concrete.
“Ah!” Again, Patricia fell on her bottom. This time, however, she didn’t rise to her feet. Instead, she cried. She held onto the railing, whimpering, her head hanging low. When she sensed a familiar presence near her, she looked up and met Angel’s eyes.
Her lips quivered as she shook her head, whispering, “I can’t do it.”
