Chapter 1087: There are ten different designs he could choose from.
“Third Brother? What are you doing here?”
The lines between Benjamin’s brows deepened as he stared at Slater, who was inside the lift. Both of them looked surprised, but Slater seemed more shocked.
“Be—Ben?” Slater called, his voice shaking a little. “What are you doing here?”
“Me?” Benjamin pointed at himself, his face innocent. “I’m here because of my cousin. My cousin works in the main office, but she’s in this branch right now. How about you?”
DING!
The lift rang once more, making both of them look up. In that brief second, their minds filled with thoughts that didn’t align with each other. While Benjamin was thinking about jumping into the lift, Slater was worried about something else.
Would Slater press the open button to stop the lift from closing? Or should he just kick Benjamin out if he tried to get in? After all, Benjamin would surely throw a lot of questions. The third option was to run away.
Slater mentally hissed and chose the least suspicious option.
DING!
Slater pressed the open button and stepped out of the lift, turning to face Benjamin. The latter slowly squared himself to face him.
“I’m here because… heh—” Slater chuckled awkwardly, realizing he hadn’t prepared an excuse.
What would he say? Every excuse he could think of sounded suspicious and lame. It’s not like he had prepared himself to bump into someone he knew in this office.
‘I’m here because I’m actually going to work on a new project. James arranged a meeting so I could get a full understanding of the government bodies’ operations like this one,’ which was the natural excuse he should give. But he could already imagine the follow-up questions Benjamin would ask.
After all, Homeland Security wasn’t the kind of place where projects like that would be allowed. No matter how big the project was, they would only offer some assistance via a representative to help with production. Just like how real lawyers, doctors, and other professionals helped the entertainment industry to produce shows with more accurate information.
Slater knew Benjamin was aware of this. The latter might act like a clown most of the time, but Benjamin was very smart. Besides, Slater was more known for his music and advertisements, not acting.
“Third Brother?” Benjamin called, snapping Slater back to the present. “Are you okay?”
“Uh, yes!” Slater smiled and laughed. “I’m just surprised to see you here. Penny asked me for a favor and told me to run an errand for her. She’s planning a vacation and doing some advanced work. As her most reliable big brother, I’m helping her!”
Benjamin’s mouth formed an “O” shape. “Oh… really?”
“Yes! Anyway, nice to see you, but I gotta go!” With that, Slater tapped Benjamin’s shoulder before fleeing.
Benjamin was left staring blankly at him. He blinked and tilted his head to the side.
“Miss Penny asked him to run an errand…?” he wondered aloud. “An errand in Homeland Security?”
Was that weird? Benjamin thought. Though he wouldn’t be surprised if Penny had connections to Homeland Security, he also thought Penny wouldn’t be so reckless as to ask someone to run an errand here. After all, this place wasn’t for small businesses—it was for big ones.
In other words, it made more sense for Penny to come here herself.
DING!
His thoughts halted when the elevator rang again, reminding him why he was there.
“Ah! OMG!” he yelped, jumping into the lift instead of waiting for another one. “These elevators suck! They take forever to come!”
Everything that had filled his mind was pushed to the back of his head. After all, Benjamin had no reason to question Slater or the excuse he gave. It still felt weird and lame, but Benjamin could take it at face value.
Soon, Benjamin reached his destination. As the elevator chimed softly, he walked out and casually made his way to the corner office. The moment he saw the short-haired woman inside the glass-walled office, his face brightened.
Benjamin jogged over and knocked on the glass wall, beaming as the woman inside turned to face him.
“Hello! I’m here~!” he waved excitedly before jogging to the entrance.

The woman, Mint, chuckled as she watched her cousin run toward the entrance. She then glanced at the monitor showing recent files of people arrested in a raid a few nights ago before closing the tab.
“Minty~!” Benjamin’s sweet and cheerful voice immediately filled the quiet office. “Your most favorite cousin is here~!”
Mint smirked as she pushed herself up. “It’s late. I’ve been waiting for a long time.”
“Heh… I’m sorry. It’s been a long day in the office.”
“Is Zoren giving you a hard time?” Mint’s smile remained, but her eyes darkened and blazed. “Tell me if he’s giving my favorite and cutest cousin a hard time, and I’ll finally make use of the coffin I’ve prepared for him. There are ten different designs he could choose from.”
Benjamin’s eyes widened as they welled up. “Minty…” He was touched, but at the same time, scared by the look on her face. “Why did you prepare so much selection, though?”
Fortunately, Benjamin cared for his boss just as much as he cared for Mint. Otherwise, he knew hell would break loose if these two fought.

Meanwhile, in the parking area of the same establishment, Slater sat in the driver’s seat, staring blankly at the windshield. He was reminded of the look on Benjamin’s face earlier.
“Why… in the world is he here?” he wondered, gasping while his face contorted. “And why the heck did I say that?”
His face soured as he thought about just how lame his excuse had been.
“Ugh… my god.” He ruffled his hair in irritation, his eyes glinting as he thought about it. “I just hope he doesn’t say a word to Penny. Otherwise, she’ll find out that Penny didn’t ask me to run an errand for her. How come he had a cousin the Homeland Security?”
Slater snapped his eyes toward the entrance of the parking lot and hissed. “I feel like my path is gonna narrow. I hope this doesn’t complicate things.”
