“And I’d do it again. This time… I’ll wait. I’ll wait for him to find something to live for, other than power; I’ll wait until he’s married and has children, so I can kill them in front of him.”
Evil.
That was all Naylani could see as she looked at this young boy smirking at her. He was barely half her size, but she couldn’t summon the strength to carry out the growing fear and hatred in her heart. Naylani hung her head low, scratching the wooden floor with her nails.
“You…” she breathed out through gritted teeth, tears landing on the floor. “You… made me crazy.”
She bit her bottom lip, looking up at him with rage. “You did this to me. You made me sick.”
“I did.” The young Zoren crouched down in front of her. “I did, Mother.”
His brows rose as amusement filled his eyes the second their gazes met. “What are you going to do about it?”
“You—” her breath hitched, her shoulders shaking as her nails started bleeding from how hard she was digging them into the floor.
“You had a problem that you soothed with a pill. You take them when you’re angry, nervous, stressed, or just when you’re overwhelmed. Since I’m still in this defenseless body, replacing those pills with sugar is the only thing I can do,” he shared indifferently, savoring the look on her face. “It’s a good thing I’ve been so concerned about your health that I did a lot of reading on it. So I know that without it, you’d start having panic attacks, then get anxious, which would eventually turn into crippling paranoia. Of course, whispering in your ear and making things difficult for you hastened the process. And then, you got overwhelmed and experienced your first hallucinations.”
His eyelids drooped dangerously. “But watching you lose your mind is only fun at first since my father is so keen to save you. He would even go out in this weather to fly across the world and get you a specialist who could help. So…” His mouth curled up again as a short laugh escaped him. “So, instead of sugar, I started adding the bits and pieces of what you and that maid put in his food.”
“Naylani, you’re dying,” he stressed under his breath, almost as if he were on the verge of laughing. “I think it’s been around a year since then. How much more poison do you think your body can hold, hmm?”
Naylani shook her head, intuitively slipping her shaking finger inside her mouth in an attempt to remove the last pill she had taken that day. She poked her finger down her throat until she started gagging and retching, but she didn’t stop until she could see anything but saliva coming out.
“Pathetic,” the young Zoren scoffed, watching her try to vomit up the poison she had no qualms about when feeding it to her husband and son. If Zoren had been drinking the milk she served him every night, he would have been long sick—just like his father, who was once healthy and physically fit but had become ill after getting rained a bit.
Enzo had been showing signs of declining health, and if this continued, Zoren knew his father would soon succumb to it. And Enzo would end up just like Zoren remembered—poisoned by his wife — which no one knows about. Therefore, the young Zoren knew he couldn’t wait any longer.
She has to go.
“Ahh!” Naylani gagged, but no matter how painfully she poked her throat, nothing came out. Grinding her teeth, she slowly gazed up at him and scoffed. “You’re evil.”
“How do you like it, Mother?” He tilted his head slightly. “How do you like your creation? The child you manipulated to control the wealth of your dead husband, just so you could give it to your son? Was it satisfactory?”
“I didn’t…” she trailed off as he added, almost poking fun at her.
“Or… should I ask if this is even real?” His brows rose. His tone, despite its natural innocence, carried a suggestive edge. “Am I real, Mother? Or was I… just another figment of your imagination created by that fucked up mind?”
Naylani trembled as her mind went blank for a second. In her eyes, this little child was growing horns like that of a demon. His dark eyes glowed red and black, and his teeth were turning into razor-sharp fangs.
“No,” she breathed out, tumbling down onto her bottom. “No, get away from me.”
Naylani pushed herself away from the demon before her, shaking her head. She kept begging in fear, covering her ears. But no matter how much she screamed for him to get away, he wouldn’t go. The little demon just stood there, eyeing her like she was his prey to devour.
“No! Get away!” Naylani screamed at the top of her lungs, and out of fear, she relied on her adrenaline. Pushing herself up, she got to her feet and shoved him down. “Stop looking at me, you demon! Give me back my son! My son!”
Naylani wrapped her hand around his neck while the young Zoren clasped her hand. His face slowly turned red as the oxygen became scarcer.
“You’re a demon! You shouldn’t have been born!” she yelled at the top of her lungs, squeezing his neck as if nothing would ever stop her until it snapped.
Zoren clenched his teeth, his arm unable to reach her face. However, her disheveled hair was just within his reach. Grabbing a portion of it, he yanked it down with all his might. With Naylani in her current state, he was able to close the distance. Taking advantage of this, Zoren scratched her cheek and grazed her eyes.
“Ah!!” Naylani fell back, screaming as her heart raced. She kept drawing back, her feet pushing her away until her back hit the stand.
CLANG!
The sound of something shattering rang out from her side, making her scream even louder. But when she noticed the large shards of the vase, she paused. Shifting her eyes to the demon, she saw the young Zoren coughing as he rolled onto his side.

“Demon,” she breathed out, her eyes turning red. Blood quickly dripped from her palm as she grabbed the biggest shard and made her way to end this demon once and for all. “You… you are the reason this has all failed. I will kill you — I will kill you!”
Holding the shard up, her eyes glinted wickedly. At the same time, little Zoren turned to face her. All he saw was the glint of the sharp tip of the shard before he felt his flesh rip apart.
