Chapter 1135: Everything went blank.
“Third Brother, I think you should run. I’ll distract them.” Benjamin’s eyes shone with determination, not a trace of hesitation in them. He nodded at Slater before setting his gaze on the men before them, taking deep breaths.
Was Benjamin scared? He was. However, he also knew that if trouble arose, at least one of them could get out and call for help. Hugo and Mint were still around the area. If Slater could get to them, Benjamin’s survival was guaranteed. Not to mention, Zoren and Mark were also nearby.
Benjamin repeated to himself that it would be fine.
Balling his hands into tight fists, Benjamin was about to leap at the men in front of them. But before he could, Slater jumped in and tackled one of them.
“Go!” Slater yelled. “Ben, go!”
Surprised, Benjamin jolted as he saw what had just happened. For a second, his feet froze in place until he saw one of the men take a step, only to be kicked by Slater.
“I said go!” Slater roared as he tried to hold off the men.
“Uh…” For a second, Benjamin’s brain went blank. But seeing that Slater was fighting the men and had managed to steal one of their weapons, his body obeyed the command.
Without thinking, Benjamin ran for his life. His mind was still blank, but he kept moving, knowing he needed to call for help. When he thought he was far enough, he looked back and saw Slater still fighting the men.
There were six of them against one.
Yet, when Benjamin looked back, he saw that three of them were already on the ground while Slater was fighting the other three. Even though Slater was still outnumbered, Benjamin could see that Slater was holding his own.
“Still,” he muttered, clenching his teeth, about to run again, even though it seemed Slater didn’t need help. But just as he resumed, another group suddenly emerged from a short alley on the side, halting Benjamin in his tracks.
This time, one of them was holding a pistol.
Benjamin’s breath hitched as he felt the muzzle pressed against his forehead. All he could hear was the laughter and music from this small pub not far away from them.
—
“Ugh…” Slater slammed the last man to the ground, panting for air as he gazed at the men lying unconscious. He hadn’t killed them, only incapacitated them. Yet his heart was racing, and his body was shaking.
That should do it, right?
“Ben,” he whispered, turning around to go after Benjamin since the latter didn’t need to call for help anymore. But the moment he looked back, he froze.
Approaching him was Benjamin, hands raised on either side of him. Behind him were three men, one of them holding Benjamin at gunpoint.
“Third Brother…” Benjamin whimpered apologetically. “I’m sorry…”
Slater’s shoulders sagged as he exhaled heavily. “It’s okay.” He looked at Benjamin, then shifted his gaze to the men behind him. He raised his hands in surrender, knowing that no matter how fast he was, he was not faster than a handgun.
Seeing Slater surrender without hesitation, Benjamin’s heart filled with bitterness. If only he had been fast enough or skilled enough, Slater wouldn’t have had to raise his hands in defeat. But as Benjamin stared at Slater, his eyes widened at the figure rising behind him.
Before Benjamin knew it, Slater was knocked unconscious from behind, and then he felt a sharp pain in his neck. Then, everything went blank.
—
“Hey, have you seen this guy?” Hugo stopped in front of a group, raised his phone, and showed them a photo of his third brother. “He’s tall, about as tall as me, and a little slim. He’s wearing a white, loose polo and khaki shorts.”
The group looked at the photo, and then at each other. When they looked back at Hugo, they shook their heads.
“How about this guy?” Swiping the photo, Hugo showed them Benjamin’s picture. But again, they shook their heads. “Ah, okay. Thanks.”
Without wasting a second, Hugo moved on, asking more people if they had seen his brother. Whether it was a gut feeling or just the instinct of being an older brother, Hugo couldn’t shake the nagging sensation creeping up his spine.
His gut told him he had to find Slater, and that feeling would only stop once he did. But another part of him feared he might not find his brother so easily.
“Hey, have you seen this guy?” Hugo asked another couple walking his way. Just like the others, they looked at the picture and shook their heads at both Slater and Benjamin’s photos.

“Ah, alright, thanks!” He nodded and was about to move on to the next person when the man he had just asked called out.
“Uh, Mister,” the man said, his eyes fixed on Hugo. “I don’t think I’ve seen either of them, but there’s a pub nearby. It’s a little crowded. Your friends might be there.”
“A pub?”
The man nodded. “I’m from another town, and many tourists go to this place. The bartender there knows a lot of people around here. He’s a friend of mine and he’s good with faces. He might be able to help.”
“This pub, what’s its name?” Hugo asked. The stranger gave him the name and directions. Hugo nodded. “Thanks, man!”
Without hesitation, Hugo followed the directions, and sure enough, he arrived at the pub the stranger had mentioned.
Standing in front of it, Hugo looked around and noticed this was an area he hadn’t been to before.
“Hugo!” Just then, Atlas’s voice reached his ears. Looking to the side, he saw Atlas and Mark approaching.
When Atlas stopped beside him, he glanced at the pub, then back at Hugo. “Calm down. There’s no need to jump to conclusions.”
“But—”
“I’ll ask the bartender while you look around,” Atlas said firmly, sensing Hugo’s panic. “We can’t afford to start a fight inside. We don’t know if Slater is missing or just hanging around, so don’t assume the worst. I need you to stay calm.”
Hugo held his breath and nodded. “I know.”
“Let’s go in.” Atlas led their small group into the pub, hoping to find Slater—and maybe Benjamin too. Sadly, no matter how packed the place was, neither Slater nor Benjamin were anywhere to be found.
