Chapter 1138: A calm menace
[Bonfire]
Nina and Finn walked back to the bonfire, holding hands. The smiles on their faces were peaceful, chuckling as they headed back. They had just come back after a short walk by the beach, but when they returned, all they saw was Allen.
“Uh, Sir Allen?” Nina called, confused. “What are you doing here all alone? Where’s everyone?”
Allen, who was trying to enjoy his drink with a frown, looked up at the couple. “I don’t know?” he shrugged. “I just bought a drink, and when I came back, everyone was gone! Good thing you two showed up!”
“Everyone’s gone…?” Nina furrowed her brows and instinctively looked up at Finn. The latter shrugged, wordlessly saying he couldn’t possibly know.
Allen let out a deep exhale, chugging down his beer. Having Nina and Finn around might make him feel better… or not. Because now that the couple was here, he just had to bitterly avoid their sweet interaction.
“That’s… weird,” Nina mumbled as she slowly sat down in their previous spot. “Did they just decide to take a walk or hit the pub?”
Finn kept his lips pressed into a thin line, gazing at the sulking Allen and then his confused fiancée. He offered Nina a smile, saying, “They probably just decided to buy something and will come back in a bit.”
“Well… I guess you’re right.”
Yet, although Nina didn’t seem to give it much thought, Finn couldn’t help but gaze at where Penny, Atlas, and Zoren had been seated earlier.
‘Something’s telling me that… something’s up.’

[Atlas’s Group]
Atlas, Hugo, and Mark decided to go to the red areas the bartender had talked about. Apparently, these areas were on the other side. Hence, they had to hurry. When they were near the place, Hugo gazed at Atlas’s back and smirked.
“See? My First Brother is the coolest brother ever!” he beamed, gazing at Mark, who was walking beside him. “Did you just see how he shut down that bartender and put him in submission?”
Mark glanced at Hugo, feeling a little conflicted. “Second Brother, I think you’re missing the point here,” he murmured. “Sir Atlas might’ve squeezed out some information from the bartender, but that doesn’t change the problem. We still haven’t heard from Third Young Master Slater and Benjamin.”
“I know, but that shouldn’t be a problem,” Hugo smirked. “I can just beat the hell out of them.”
“…”
“But you have to admit, my First Brother is cool.” Hugo wiggled his brows, grinning. “I like it when he does that to other people, but not much when he does that to force us into submission.”
Mark was rendered speechless, thinking how Hugo, Slater, and even Penny would kneel and raise their hands over their heads when being scolded by Atlas. At this point, Mark was thinking that Atlas seemed to be more of a parent to his siblings than a big brother. But then again, despite Atlas’s quirks, even Penny surprisingly listened to him.
That only showed the level of respect the other Bennet children had for Atlas.
“I guess…” Mark trailed off when Atlas, who was walking ahead of them, suddenly stopped. He and Hugo raised their brows, setting their eyes on Atlas’s back. “Sir Atlas?”
Atlas didn’t say anything, eyes on the sand. Slowly, he bent over and picked something up. It was a frog keychain. He stayed quiet, trying to contain the brewing worry swelling in his chest.
‘This could have fallen and just had the same keychain as Slater’s,’ Atlas told himself, knowing Slater had recently been scammed for a keychain. But then, when his eyes veered just a few meters from his vantage point, his heart sank.
There, not far from them, were Slater’s slippers.
“First Brother, what’s wrong?” Hugo asked, walking closer to Atlas. But before he could see the keychain Atlas was holding, his eyes caught the slipper not far away from them.
“I think… the worst just revealed itself,” said Atlas under his breath, looking back at them sharply. “Hugo, knock all their teeth out until they start singing like canaries.”
Hugo balled his fist, eyes unblinking at Atlas. He nodded, and without a word, he marched past Atlas. As he did, he tapped Atlas’s shoulder and said, “I got it.”
As Hugo walked away, Mark stayed in his spot for a moment. He darted his eyes between Atlas, the keychain in his hand, and then at Hugo’s retreating form.
“Help him,” Atlas whispered, looking up at Mark. “Make sure he doesn’t kill anyone.”

Atlas said that, but Mark could see how Atlas’s grip on the keychain trembled. From the looks of it, it seemed Atlas was the one who wanted to send someone to hell.
A calm menace.
“Yes,” Mark lowered his head, and without wasting a second, followed Hugo to the small pub the bartender had told them to go. The bartender said this small pub was mostly for that group, and they did not serve tourists.
They would get an answer from here, for sure.
Standing in front of the pub, Hugo drew a deep breath and stretched his neck from one side to the other. When he reopened his eyes, a glint flickered across them. The giddy little brother he was, admiring his First Brother, was gone. Not even the usual laziness that stuck to him like a shadow could be traced.
Even though Mark was a few steps behind Hugo, he could see that the guy who would happily take someone on in a spar was nowhere in sight.
Using his index finger, Hugo pushed the door and walked in as casually as he could. The moment he entered, everyone who was partying inside stopped and looked at the entrance. As the door swung in and out, Mark approached it and looked back at Atlas.
Atlas just jerked his chin, making Mark shrug as he entered. It only took a minute before someone flew out of the door. Atlas glanced at the man, who was scurrying his way out. But alas, as the man tried to crawl away, Atlas stood in front of him.
Slowly, the man looked up, only to see a pair of diabolical eyes staring down at him.
“Get back in and get a beating,” Atlas tipped his head to the side. “Trust me. If you don’t, he’ll find you to the end of the world just to give you what he’s giving to everyone right now.”
“Please… I just…” The man’s breath hitched when Atlas suddenly squatted down in front of him.
Atlas pulled out his phone, showing Slater and Benjamin’s photo. “Where are these two?”
“I—I don’t know.” His answer caused another layer of frost to coat Atlas’s eyes.
“Then crawl your way back in there, since you don’t have leverage.” Having said that, Atlas was about to push himself up when the man suddenly grabbed his ankle. Looking down at him coldly, he asked, “I’m giving you one last chance. Have you seen these guys?”
The man gulped, knowing what was going on inside their exclusive pub. “I didn’t look properly. Maybe, if I take another look, I’ll remember.”
And with that, the man bought himself a full minute to rack his brain and weigh whether this was worth risking his life for.
“Time’s up.” Atlas took his phone away and grabbed the man’s collar. This time, his unblinking eyes were ten times more menacing than a minute ago. “Where did you take them?”
The man’s lips quivered as he blurted out, “The base! I think… they’re one of the guys they took to the base because one of them had been snooping around our territory!”
