Chapter 1152: How did you…?
[Moments ago]
“Mhm! Mhm!” Benjamin struggled as he and Slater were being dragged away from Glenn’s office. He tried everything he could, exhausting every bit of energy, but to no avail.
There was no way they would get out of here. Their binds were too tight, and no matter what, Benjamin wasn’t physically trained for fighting. He had spent years studying to be effective as Zoren’s assistant. He left all the fighting to his bodyguards — it was why they were there!
“Mhm!!” Benjamin screamed again, hoping someone would hear his muffled cry for help. “Mhm!! Mhm — ack!”
Just as Benjamin was yelling, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. His breathing immediately constricted, his body hunching from the pain. One of the people dragging him had just punched him right in the gut.
The person who launched the punch gazed at him coldly before casting a look at the person dragging Benjamin. “Now, that’s better. Take them away.”
“Yes.” The member nodded, unable to deny that dragging Benjamin was now easier. After all, Benjamin had stopped struggling.
Meanwhile, the others who were dragging Slater just followed. Slater was still unconscious, and even though he was being dragged behind them, his buttocks dragging on the floor, he hadn’t woken up yet. Soon, they reached a lower part of the building.
“Take them in and make sure they won’t cause any trouble,” said the person who assaulted Benjamin, stopping at the turn of the hall. “Go.”
Having said that, the others continued dragging the two, while the man who seemed to be the leader of this small group paused to smoke.
When the group reached the end of the hall, one of them reached out to open the door. Once he kicked it open, he grabbed Slater again and dragged him inside. It was the same for the person dragging Benjamin.
Bam!
Ack!
The person holding Benjamin tossed him into the dirty room. “I should’ve punched him. Damn. He’s heavy,” the person complained, glaring at Benjamin, knowing that he would get scolded later because of him.
As Benjamin curled into a fetal position, the man felt a wave of rage in his heart. He walked toward Benjamin to kick him. At least, even if he was going to get scolded, he could release some of his frustrations beforehand. However, just as he lifted his foot over Benjamin’s body, he heard a loud thud from behind him.
THUD!
“What the—” The man looked behind him, only to see someone lunging at him. Before he knew it, he was tackled to the ground. “Ack—”
The man struggled, grabbing the arm wrapped around his neck. He punched the arm, trying to get it off, but the person holding him from behind squeezed harder, cutting off his air.
“I… can’t… breathe…” he gasped, realizing the danger of the situation. Instinctively, he reached for his hip where his pistol was. Much to his dismay, the person wrestling with him kicked it away just as he reached for it.
“Ack—!” The man struggled a little more, tapping the arm across his neck, but to no avail. His face slowly turned red, and he could feel his head growing heavy. His consciousness slowly slipped away. ‘I’m… going to… die…’
His eyes slowly closed, his vision growing blurry. But just when he thought he was done for, the person holding him suddenly released him.
“Ha…!” he gasped for air, coughing as he rolled to his side. He groped his neck, still feeling the pressure on his throat. When he recovered from the coughing, he realized the danger hadn’t passed. Looking up, his eyes widened as he saw the other hostage — Slater — squatting down beside him. Slater’s arm was raised, and his hand was balled into a tight fist.
Before the man could grasp what was going to happen, Slater’s knuckle hit him. And then, everything went black.
Slater panted for air, glancing at the two men lying on the floor, unconscious. Benjamin was also on the floor, curled up in a ball.
Slater hadn’t been unconscious. In fact, he woke up long before Benjamin did. He simply played dead, knowing people lowered their guard around someone who appeared vulnerable. Even when what Glenn said about Mint made his blood boil, Slater had to put that aside. He focused on getting his binds loose. So, when they reached this room, he decided it was the perfect time.
Using his own slightly loosened binds, he slipped the man’s hand between them and twisted his arm. When the man made a sound of pain, it coincided with the moment the other man tossed Benjamin to the ground. That gave Slater the chance to knock the other man unconscious and steal his knife to cut his ropes.
Seated on the floor, Slater huffed deeply and briefly closed his eyes. When he reopened them, his gaze shifted back to Benjamin, still lying on the floor.
Shaking his head, Slater searched for the knife he had used to cut the ropes. He reached out for it before approaching Benjamin. The second he placed a hand on Benjamin, the latter screamed and wiggled, looking back at Slater as if his energy had just revived.
“Mhm! Mhm — hmm?” Benjamin stopped wiggling, brows furrowed. “Mhm, mhm, hm?!” — Third Brother?! That was what he was trying to say.
“Stop moving,” Slater breathed out. “I’m going to cut the ropes. Did you hear me?”

Benjamin nodded profusely, then let Slater push him down onto his stomach again. He closed his eyes, feeling the cold metal touch his skin. For some reason, he found himself clenching his teeth until he felt the rope that had been grazing his skin come loose.
“Mhm!” Benjamin quickly rolled to sit up, tearing off the duct tape from his mouth. “Hah!”
After taking a deep breath, Benjamin snapped his eyes at Slater. “Third Brother? How did you…” He trailed off, noticing that the men who had dragged them here were now knocked unconscious on the floor. Although there wasn’t any blood in sight, it was still mind-boggling.
“How…?” Benjamin stopped again, his eyes locked on Slater. “You did this?”
“…”
Benjamin pressed his lips together and jolted back, brows furrowed. “You… Homeland Security…” His mouth fell open, because, with all these thoughts in mind, it wasn’t hard to put two and two together. “You… really know Mint. That time in the Homeland Security office, you aren’t there for Miss Penny… or for Mint. Who are you?”
