Chapter 1158: The tiny kind of pinch
[Back to the Base]
“What did you just say?” Penny gasped in disbelief, glancing back at the barely clothed men she had tied up in one of the many rooms of the building.
After cornering them earlier, Penny had disarmed them and brought them to the safest, empty room she could find. Surprisingly, this building had plenty of unused rooms. Given the number of people she had seen earlier, she knew that one building wouldn’t be enough to accommodate everyone. Yet, this part of the building remained vacant.
She had stripped them almost naked, leaving only their boxer shorts on, just in case they were hiding anything underneath. Of course, they tried to fight her, using brute strength, but found themselves on the ground, making it easy for her to tie them together.
But just when she thought things were going as smoothly as planned, she realized she was wrong.
“What do you mean, my brother and Benjamin are gone?” she asked, squatting in front of them in disbelief. “They couldn’t be gone unless someone moved them!”
“But they are!” one man replied in frustration. “When the big boss told us to get them, we arrived at the scene where they were taken! They weren’t there! And the guys who took them were knocked unconscious! That’s why our other guys are looking for them!”
“…” Penny opened and closed her mouth, but no words came out.
Now it made sense.
Glenn had been genuinely interested in the ransom money and returning Slater and Benjamin. He might not be the brightest, but someone like him should understand the dangers of being too greedy. The situation changed when one of his men returned without Slater and Benjamin.
“No wonder…” she whispered to herself, realization dawning on her. “Since it came down to this, he immediately pushed his luck.”
After all, Glenn had been focused on the ransom money. Since he didn’t know where or how Slater and Benjamin had disappeared, he needed something else to secure it. The addition of the island was likely because he thought that since he was holding Zoren captive, why not go all out?
“Shit,” she breathed through gritted teeth, glaring at the men before her. The two flinched when they saw the intensity in her eyes. “Tell me everything.”
“What?”
“The details! Where did they go? How did it happen? Everything!”
“We don’t know!” one man yelped. “We already told you everything we know! When we came back, they were already gone! I swear!”
“Those who took them, where are they?”
The two men looked reluctant until she grabbed one of their hairs. “Ahh!! They’re in the infirmary! They wouldn’t wake up when we tried to ask them!”
“Are they dead?”
“I don’t—ahh! No, I don’t think so!” The man winced, trying to reach for his head as she kept gripping his hair. “Ah—that’s all I know! Our guys are also looking for them—ah! It hurts!”
Penny kept her grip for a little longer before releasing him. He whimpered in pain, but she didn’t care. He should be grateful she hadn’t listened to her intrusive thoughts and shot him. All she did was grab his hair. If she had a drink, she might have gone to more extreme measures.
“You guys only had one job: to keep your hostages!” she barked, rising to her feet. “Yet you can’t even do that! What are these guns for, huh!?”
She hissed as the two men looked up at her, confused.
‘Why is she mad that our hostages got away?’ they wondered because that’s what it sounded like to them. ‘Didn’t she want to rescue them?’
“Ugh! For Pete’s sake!” Frustrated, Penny walked away, picking up one of the fabrics they had been wearing earlier and using it to cover their mouths. “Stop moving or I’ll pinch you really, really hard! The tiny kind of pinch.”
“…” The threat sounded a little childish, but both men froze like statues. Once she finished, they didn’t even try to struggle, knowing this woman was already insane. She was heavy by nature, so her kicks and punches were incredibly powerful and painful.
Standing in front of them, Penny hissed again and ruffled her hair. “You guys are useless. Why are you even the bad guys if you can’t do it properly?” she muttered before walking away, knowing she had no further business here.
The men she left behind just watched her go until she shut the door. Once it was just the two of them, they glanced at each other.
“Hey, should we… try to get these off?” one of them asked, but the other shook his head.
“Didn’t she punch you earlier? That woman is crazy strong—it’s ridiculous! I don’t want to bump into her and get a beating.”

“You’re right. Let’s just stay here for now. They’ll find those two soon if they’re still in the territory. Let those guys deal with that problem.”
“Yeah, let’s leave it to them. I’ve had enough for the day.” The two of them relaxed, even though their bare backs were touching each other. “I think that kick just twisted my intestines.”
“Same.”

At the same time, somewhere within the base…
Mint was walking down the empty hallway when she suddenly heard loud footsteps. She stopped and glanced ahead, then turned around to head back. She’d already knocked out countless men who kept asking her questions.
“It’s about time they find them,” she whispered, only to stop again when she heard footsteps from the end of the hallway. “Ah, shit.”
Hurried footsteps and shouts were coming from both sides, and Mint knew it would be bad if she got caught in between. She quickly looked around for any doors, but there were only a few. Rushing to the nearest one, it was locked. Without wasting any time, she checked the next one—locked as well. By the time she reached the third door, the sounds from both directions were getting closer.
“Shit!” she panicked a little, pulling her rifle strap in front of her, ready to fight. But just as she thought they might start shooting, the people from both ends didn’t turn in her direction.
Huh?
Mint, still holding the door, glanced right and then left. A large group of syndicate members was running ahead, clearly missing the place where she was standing.
“Hey! What are you doing there?” A voice suddenly shouted from behind her. She turned to see a man glaring at her angrily, urgency in his expression.
“Uh, I’m…”
“Whatever you’re doing, drop it! The base is being infiltrated!”
“Huh?”
“Get moving!” the man yelled again before jogging off in the direction he’d been heading.
Mint blinked a few times, then pointed to herself. “I know the base is being infiltrated… by me. Where the hell are they going?”
Curious about why this group was rushing in that direction, Mint followed them. It didn’t take long for her to realize why her infiltration had gone unnoticed. From where she was standing, she could see a truck tearing through the gates, driving recklessly around the front yard.
“That…” Mint narrowed her eyes, trying to see through the dust and smoke. It was hard to make out who it was from this distance, but she caught a glimpse of the driver. ‘… Hugo fucking Bennet.’
