BANG!
“Hey!” The person behind the window in one of the buildings yelled, turning his head to Mint—whom he thought was new here. “Why are you opening fire!? Can you even see him?”
Mint frowned slightly. “I’m sorry. I’m just taking my chances.”
“Don’t waste your ammo!”
“Okay.” Mint pursed her lips and nodded, but instead of standing by as ordered, she opened fire again.
“What the—” The man turned to her. All he saw was her still facing him, rifle pointed at the window. “Are you fucking insane—”
BANG!
Before he could finish, a loud gunshot echoed in the hallway. The man’s scream earned the attention of all the members stationed there. They turned their heads toward the sound of gunfire and the scream, only to see one of their men lying on the ground, shot in the leg.
Standing just a step behind the man was a woman. They furrowed their brows. This face… was something they hadn’t seen before. They hadn’t noticed her earlier because of the chaos, but now that the scene had unfolded, they knew… she was not one of them.
“Take her down!” the first man who had recovered from the surprise shouted, and all of them quickly raised their rifles. Without hesitation, they opened fire.
But alas, unlike them—who were only trained to pull the trigger and take lives—Mint was trained. And during her training, she was the most exceptional, not just in her class, but in that entire school year.
Gliding down to the man she had shot, she swiftly pulled him up and used him as a shield. The man couldn’t even plead for his life as bullets riddled his body. She then slipped her rifle between his torso and arm, firing back at them.
Each shot was precise and expertly aimed, hitting her targets with a single shot.
One by one, the enemies in the hallway started to fall. Although the two in the back were able to use their already-dead comrades as shields, that didn’t save them from the incoming doom.
With only a few of them left, Mint shoved the body off of her and sprinted toward them. They were firing in her direction, yet she fearlessly charged head-on. When she saw one of the rifles’ angle aimed at her, she swiftly slid down to avoid the shot.
BANG!
BANG!
CLAK!
The moment Mint reached the two men hiding behind their own fallen comrades, she grabbed both their rifles. The men immediately felt the added weight, but that didn’t stop them from pulling the trigger. But alas…
CLACK!
CLACK!
Her lips slowly curled into a sinister grin as she watched the men peek over their human shields. “Out of bullets?” she cocked her head to the side, her voice laced with amusement. “These guns… aren’t just toys you use like fireworks.”
The men held their breaths as she started laughing softly. A part of them screamed at themselves to make a run for it. They were already out of ammo, and they had no time to reload. They knew they would die the moment they tried. After all, this had never happened before. Although they were armed, they had never encountered a fight like this. They mostly used their rifles to intimidate their hostages, who wouldn’t fight back — or if they did, it was a futile attempt.
So, all they could do was stare at the female demon across from the bodies of their comrades.
“That’s right.” Mint rocked her head as if she could read their thoughts. Well, she didn’t need to guess; their faces said it all. “You guys are so screwed — very much so.”
And before they knew it, Mint raised her rifle. But instead of shooting, she spun it in a split second and struck them with the butt of the gun.
“Haist…” Mint ruffled her hair in irritation, getting up after knocking down two of the men. Looking back at the hallway, her lips pressed into a thin line. There wasn’t a look of remorse in her eyes—just a look of… disappointment.
This was the problem with some of the small-time syndicates. They just recruited anyone, handed them weapons, and used intimidation on those who couldn’t fight back. Something as basic as reloading—an essential skill on the battlefield—was something they couldn’t do on the spot.
“I even fought recklessly just to test their skills, but it’s quite a disappointment. Even that they can’t keep up,” she murmured. “But then again… even with this kind of skill, they were able to victimize hundreds of people. Speaking of hostages… shit!”

Mint hissed and jumped from her spot, grabbing two extra magazines from the men she’d knocked unconscious. A surge of panic swelled in her chest, thinking that Benjamin might stumble upon this hallway and get scared to death.
He might faint!
She had to find him before Benjamin saw this horrific scene!
“Benji!!!” she called, running away from the horrific scene of battle. But just as she jogged, she stopped and turned toward the window on the side. Looking out, the fog surrounding the truck was slowly thinning as it had stopped. “I helped him a bit… but well, it’s not like Hugo Bennet needed one.”
With that thought in mind, Mint turned and resumed her steps. She had no time for any more distractions. Until she saw Benjamin, she couldn’t afford to stop. But even so, Mint felt a slight twinge of worry.
‘Hugo Bennet…’ she thought, remembering how Hugo had entered the scene. ‘I’ve heard a lot about him.’
After all, even though Hugo was on a completely different side of the law, they were all connected one way or another. While people hailed him for being so “successful” at that age, those who knew could only see the mountains of a body underneath his feet. It was why Hugo wasn’t just known among law enforcement as the youngest lieutenant of the military.
He was known by something else.
The Sluagh.
A moniker the enemy had given him because of his ruthlessness and evilness in battle. Just like the folklore, they saw him as a man with an evil soul — so evil he should be barred from hell.
Nobody was safe from him.
