Chapter 1213: Call it luck
“I already fixed our route, so we’ll land where we’re supposed to. As for these two… time to wake them up and ask whose brilliant idea it was to make a detour.”
As soon as Penny said that, she flicked the captain’s nose to wake him up.
“A detour?” Atlas muttered under his breath, confused. “What are you saying?”
“Call it luck — our luck being on our side today or just these guys’ luck is just bad that we are here. When we came in here, I smelled something. It took me a while to recognize the scent; it’s the smell of bullshit,” she said, glancing back at him. “I confirmed it when I sat down and listened to the memos in the headphones. Of course, you didn’t hear them because they were on mute.”
For a moment, Atlas was stunned. Thinking back, Penny had pressed a lot of buttons when she sat down and “pretended” to maneuver the craft. At the time, it seemed like she was just playing around, but only now did he realize she had something else in mind.
“They want us to make an emergency landing since we’re way off our original route, but there’s no safe place to land out here. So, I already told those guys in the tower that we’re heading to Anteca. If we keep going straight, our fuel should last,” she explained calmly, flicking the pilot’s nose again. “Assuming my calculations are correct.”
“‘Assuming your calculations are correct’? You mean to say you’re not sure?”
Penny smirked and looked back at him. “I wonder… am I crying Wolf for fun, or is there really a pack waiting to eat the sheep?”
“…”
“Anyway!” She cleared her throat and flicked the pilot’s nose again. This time, his brows twitched. Another flick jolted him awake.
“Shh, shh!”
Knowing he would panic, Penny placed a hand on his chest and a finger over his mouth. “Shhh. It’s fine, it’s fine. It’s just me, you, your unconscious co-pilot, and my jerk of a brother. So, no need to panic.”
The pilot’s breath hitched, his chest rising and falling rapidly. His eyes dilated as he stared at the very person who had knocked him unconscious.
“I will report this,” he blurted out, his voice defensive. “Even if this is a private aircraft, what you’re doing is illegal.”
“Oh?” Penny cocked her head to the side. “That’s interesting. I mean, hijacking a plane is already bad, but I still did it. Yet, here you are, threatening me; the very person who hijacked this plane. What makes you think I won’t just throw you out of this craft to shut you up?”
“…” The pilot held his breath, watching her flutter her eyelashes innocently.
“This is exactly why people die in thriller and horror movies, you know? Instead of trying to survive, they just say or do something incredibly stupid,” she continued, slapping his shoulder. He flinched. “Don’t worry. I’m not going to do that… unless you test my patience. And let me tell you, my patience isn’t long. It’s about as short as a worm… or my toe.”
She paused and tilted her head, raising her brows. “Do you understand what I’m saying?” She pressed a finger against his chest. “Do. Not. Test. The waters. You have no idea what’s in it.”
The pilot exhaled shakily and nodded. He understood. Not that he had much choice.
“Now, onto more important questions. Care to tell me where you were planning to take this aircraft?” she asked with a smile, tilting her head slightly. “As far as I know, Anteca is our destination. This detour isn’t just to avoid traffic—it’s a completely different direction.”
“You… how did you…?”
“I know how to pilot one, thanks to Uncle Wild!” Penny grinned. “He said flying is a life skill, so he taught me. Angel knows how to fly, too. He’s a terrible car driver, but a decent pilot.”
“Who is Angel?”
“Just someone you don’t know. And you’re not the one asking questions—I am. So don’t ask.” Penny smiled sweetly until her eyes squinted. “Now, back to the real question. Where were you taking us?”
The pilot opened and closed his mouth, glancing at his co-pilot. Seeing that the man was still unconscious, he slowly looked back at Penny.
“I don’t know,” he confessed under his breath.
Penny arched a brow. “Excuse me?”
“Hear me out, please,” he pleaded. “I really don’t know. All I was told was that… this aircraft was not landing in Anteca. They only gave me coordinates on where to land, but even I was skeptical.”
“Skeptical about what?”
“I don’t think there’s even a proper runway in that location,” he said, his voice unsteady. “To be honest, I don’t think we were meant to land at all.”

Penny and Atlas exchanged dark looks. They studied the pilot’s expression carefully. If he was lying, he was an excellent actor. But from the distress in his eyes, it seemed more likely that he was telling the truth.
“So you’re saying that originally, this craft was flying to Anteca?” Atlas asked.
The pilot nodded.
“But then things changed. What exactly happened? And who told you we were changing course?”
The pilot’s mouth quivered as he glanced at his co-pilot. Penny and Atlas followed his gaze.
“Was it him?” Atlas asked coldly. “But aren’t you the captain? How come your co-pilot is the one calling the shots?”
“He’s not my co-pilot,” the pilot growled through clenched teeth. “That uniform belongs to my real partner, but the man wearing it isn’t him. Same with the cabin crew. They took my team hostage and forced me to fly, threatening their lives if I didn’t comply.”
Penny gasped in disbelief, then suddenly burst out laughing. “Oh my god, Atlas. Do you realize what just happened?” She turned to him with an incredulous grin. “We hijacked an already hijacked plane. What are the odds?”
Atlas, ignoring her amusement, walked over to the window and peered outside.
“Penny, didn’t you send the cabin crew to Hugo and Zoren?”
“Huh?”
“…” Slowly, Atlas turned back to her. “They haven’t returned.”
The amusement drained from Penny’s face while Atlas’s eyes darkened with realization.
