Chapter 1223: One last desperate effort
The man’s eyes widened in horror as he held his breath. Looking up, he saw Penny’s body inching back inside. It wasn’t abrupt, but he knew that if this continued, they would all be pulled back in for sure. He understood that just clinging on would only drain their energy, so their best option was to use that energy to pull themselves back up.
“No!” the man yelled, yanking Atlas’s ankle down. “No! You can’t”
The man, using every bit of his strength, took advantage of his position to add more weight to Atlas. He couldn’t let them pull him up. He could just let go, but he wouldn’t go down that easily. Hence, he resorted to any sort of means to slow them down or just drag all of them down with him.
“Shit!” Hugo cursed through gritted teeth as the tug affected him as well. “That bastard…! Zoren!”
“I’m trying!” Zoren yelled back, refusing to let the man’s actions shake him. “Forget about you and Penny… I’m going to grind him into powder.”
Zoren kept a firm grip on Penny’s leg, pulling her back in while Hugo steadied his other arm. Just like Hugo, Penny, and Atlas, Zoren was filled with rage. Taking Atlas hostage was one thing, hijacking the plane was another. But this?
That man had just signed himself up for hell.
Not only had he endangered Atlas—his brother, his family—but he had also put Zoren’s wife’s life on the line. Unforgivable.
“Enough!” Atlas yelled. “Stop—ahhh!”
Penny’s eyes widened as Atlas screamed. The man was climbing up his leg—biting into his calf. Atlas’s grip loosened, and Penny instinctively held on to him tighter.
“You—” she clenched her teeth, her stomach pressing against the edge of the opening. “I’m going to kill you!”
“Ahhh—!” Atlas gritted his teeth and looked up at Penny. “Keep pulling!!!”
His voice rang across the sky, followed by Zoren and Hugo’s shouts as they used every ounce of their strength. Their anger fueled their efforts, and little by little, they felt progress.
“More!” Hugo yelled as his body shifted further back inside. “More!”
“More!” Zoren echoed, locking eyes with his wife. “Penny! Try pulling First Brother!”
“I’m trying!” she shouted back, now able to brace her chest against the floor. “First Brother!”
Atlas, drawing from his reserves, pulled himself up as best he could.
“Can you climb onto me?!” Penny asked.
Atlas shook his head. “I can’t with him on my foot!”
“Tch!” Penny clicked her tongue and redoubled her efforts. As she did, she felt herself moving back with Zoren’s and Hugo’s support. But just as they started making real progress—
The plane shook violently.
“Kyah!” Penny yelped as she slid out again. Just moments ago, her chest was on solid ground, but now she was slipping back into the open air. Another tug stopped her descent, but she could feel herself teetering on the edge.
“Fuck!” Hugo shouted, feeling the sweat building between his palm and Zoren’s skin. If not for his braced position, he would have slid as well. “Again!”
Time wasn’t just their enemy—it was their draining strength and slippery grips. Hugo, without hesitation, pulled again.
“Ugh…!” he grunted, forcing himself to push past the fatigue.
He had faced adversity many times. Some days, he had felt like giving up. But this?
This was not one of those days.
“Pull!!” he roared.
“Pull!!” Zoren echoed.
“Pull!!” Penny screamed as she hauled Atlas up.

Their cries rang across the sky and inside the aircraft, and in their desperation, none of them noticed the figure approaching.
“What the—” Slater stopped at the entrance, gripping a seat as the harsh wind blasted through the cabin. His eyes widened as he took in the scene before him. He barely heard the repeated shouts of “Pull,” too stunned by what he was seeing.
His gaze locked onto Hugo, whose grip was locked onto Zoren, who in turn was anchored under a seat while desperately holding onto Penny.
And Penny?
She was holding onto Atlas.
Atlas, who was dangling in midair—with an unknown man clinging to his foot.
“Holy—!” Slater’s breath hitched as he finally processed the situation. “Second Brother!”
At the sound of his voice, Hugo’s sweat-drenched face snapped upward. Their eyes met—Slater’s filled with shock, Hugo’s filled with desperation.
“Slater!” Hugo bellowed. “Help us pull them up!”
Slater had no idea how things had escalated to this, but there was no time for questions. He quickly moved forward, staying cautious of the open door and violent winds. His eyes darted between the group, trying to assess the best way to help.
“Hold him!” Hugo ordered, seeing that from Slater’s position, he could reach Zoren and pull them up. “Now!”
But Slater hesitated, studying Hugo—then Zoren.
“What are you waiting for?! Slater!” Hugo yelled, snapping Slater out of his trance. But it wasn’t hesitation that had frozen Slater.
It was a calculation.
“Second Brother, hold him!” Slater shouted before grabbing onto the seat, riding the momentum of the shaking plane—and leaping over Zoren.
Zoren instinctively ducked, while Hugo gasped, “Slater!!!”
His breath hitched as Slater jumped straight toward the emergency door. But just before he could fall through it, he grabbed onto something, twisting his body to the side. He slammed against the wall next to the door, catching himself just in time.
“Penny!” Slater called, forcing himself to move. His entire body froze for a fraction of a second as he took in the full sight—Atlas dangling in the open air, the unknown man still clinging to his leg.
“Third Brother, pull me up!” Penny screamed.
Without hesitation, Slater grabbed her shoulder and hauled her up.
“Pull!” he shouted. “Now!”
His voice snapped Hugo and Zoren out of their trance. Without wasting another second, they yanked Penny up with renewed strength. With Slater’s help, her ascent was much faster.
Then, Penny pulled her arm up. Slater stretched his arm out, bracing himself to help Penny with Atlas.
And finally—
Atlas’s arm appeared.
Fueled by an adrenaline rush, Hugo and Zoren poured every ounce of energy into one final pull.
One last, desperate effort.
And then—
They tumbled back inside.
