Chapter 1224: Grow up without their parents
With all the strength they had exerted, Hugo, Zoren, Penny, and even Atlas tumbled violently inside the plane. The harsh wind added force, throwing them further in. Their grunts and the sound of their bodies hitting the floor filled the space, momentarily overpowering the deafening pressure of the sky.
Meanwhile, Slater held onto something and stayed behind the wall. Peeking over, he kept his back pressed against it as he cautiously moved up. With precise calculation, he reached for the door and pulled it shut. The wind made it extra challenging, but until the door was closed and they were back to safety, he couldn’t feel reassured.
Somehow, Slater managed to close the door all by himself. Whether it was pure willpower or brute strength, he had no idea. All he knew was the exhaustion that hit him the moment the cabin was free from the harsh wind.
Thud!
Slater felt his knees weaken as he slumped to the floor, panting.
“Holy broccoli…” he breathed out, staring at the shut door in horror. “What just… happened…?”
Looking back, he saw Penny and Zoren trying to push themselves upright. His eyes then moved to Atlas, who was closest to him.
“First Brother!” Slater yelled, forcing himself forward. But with his bones feeling like jelly, he could only crawl toward him. “First Brother!”
Atlas grunted, peering up at Slater. “Slater,” he muttered, reaching out a hand that Slater quickly clasped.
Helping Atlas sit up, Slater then scanned the room. Penny and Zoren were already sitting, with Zoren checking on her. Hugo, meanwhile, lay face down, palms pressed against the floor as he pushed himself up.
A sharp breath escaped Slater as he gazed at them blankly. “So? Would anyone tell me… what the hell just happened? Surely, you guys didn’t just decide it’d be fun to play human centipede, right?”
Slowly, all eyes turned to Slater. Penny’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
Silence.
Maybe it was the sheer shock of how things had spiraled out of control. Maybe it was the fact that their energy was completely drained. Either way, none of them found their voices for several minutes.
—
It took a full ten minutes before they could recover. Even then, they remained where they were, still seated on the floor.
Slater was speechless after hearing Atlas’s summary. His blank eyes swept over their haggard faces. “So… this plane was hijacked, and you found that out because Penny hijacked it first? Then those guys—the cabin crew—you were the ones who tied them up?”
He pointed his thumb over his shoulder, mortified. “Then First Brother was taken hostage, but in a last struggle, the hostage taker opened the emergency door and First Brother got yanked out. Penny jumped after him without thinking, but thankfully, our brother-in-law has crazy fast reflexes and managed to grab her?”
“And while all of this was happening, Second Brother was bouncing around the craft like a ragdoll because of the plane’s instability?” Slater’s mouth hung open as Atlas nodded. “Do you seriously think anyone would believe this story?”
“I wouldn’t believe it myself.” Hugo hissed, touching his side where he’d slammed into something earlier. Grinding his teeth, he stretched his neck. “Where’s that bastard? The one who took you?”
“He let go of me when he realized we were getting pulled back in,” Atlas replied. “That’s why it felt like we were flying inside. The sudden reduction of weight threw us in.”
Atlas touched his neck, wincing at the sting. The blood on his skin had already dried.
Penny, Zoren, and Hugo frowned at this revelation. They would’ve preferred it if the man had stayed with them—preferably alive—but there was no point in dwelling on it now. The whole ordeal had already been too much.
Again, silence settled over them as they sat there, barely blinking, still trying to process what had happened. It felt surreal, like a fever dream. But it wasn’t.
“I’m worried…” Zoren suddenly murmured. His quiet voice cut through the silence, making everyone lift their heads to look at him. “At this rate, we might end up killing ourselves before our enemies even get the chance.”
The Bennets: “… ”
For a moment, they could only stare at Zoren blankly. No one said a word because, in a way… he might actually be right. With what they had gone through just two nights ago—then this? They might as well strangle themselves and save their enemies the trouble.
“Let’s… let’s not tell Dad about this,” Penny suggested after a while. “He might start breathing fire if he hears it.”
Hugo nodded. “Good idea. Let’s leave the old man out of this.”
Atlas and Slater didn’t argue. They were all still recovering from the shock, but if there was one thing they didn’t need right now, it was Charles Bennet’s inevitable lecture.

They could already imagine it—hours of scolding, endless nagging, and general checkups for all of them, because their father would absolutely insist on it.
“Wow… that actually happened,” Penny muttered in a daze. “I really thought we were done for.”
Atlas snapped his eyes at his sister. He didn’t say anything, but deep down, he had already mentally prepared himself to become a vengeful spirit.
“I almost said goodbye to our quadruplets and apologized that they’d have to grow up without their parents,” Zoren murmured, making everyone turn their heads toward him.
His brows lifted when he noticed their stares. “What?”
The Bennet brothers had thoughts about that comment, but they let it go. It was clear that Zoren’s brain was still scrambled from the chaos, considering he’d somehow forgotten the natural cycle of life. There was no baby yet, let alone four!
“Anyway… Slater, earlier… how the hell did you pull that off?” Hugo furrowed his brows and narrowed his eyes at his third brother. “Instead of just pulling Zoren up, you jumped over him and hid precisely behind the wall. If you hadn’t, it would’ve been a hell of a lot harder. But that kind of move? That kind of thinking? That’s easier said than done. How did you even think of that so fast?”
Penny deadpanned at Hugo. “I told you earlier, didn’t I?”
“Told me… what?” Hugo frowned, trying to recall what else Penny had said today. And then— it hit him.
He had been too distracted by Penny and Zoren’s “unspeakable” relationship to actually process it. Let alone, what Penny said at the same time, Slater’s remark about their marriage.
Homeland Security.
Atlas’s brows also furrowed in realization. Then, slowly, both his and Hugo’s eyes widened in horror. Their mouths fell open as they turned to stare at Slater.
Seeing their reaction, Slater forced an awkward smile.
“Telling you guys wasn’t exactly part of the plan, but…” He scratched the back of his head. “Mint’s my commander.”
The stunned silence that followed was deafening.
“Benjamin found out two nights ago,” Slater continued hesitantly. “And… so did Uncle Stephen some time ago.”
This time, it was Penny’smouth that hit the floor. Zoren had to physically close it for her.
Even so, Zoren himself wasn’t exactly not surprised. He might not have gaped like the others, but he was still frozen.
Was there any more shocking news left for them today? Because if there was, they’d rather just get it over with at this point.
Fortunately, nothing else happened. The original crew eventually found them and helped them through the next twelve hours.
Even so, none of them rested. Not even for a second.
And that was how they arrived in Anteca — completely wrecked with anxiety and shock.
