Chapter 1269: You owe me one
[SKYLINE PLAZA: Zoren’s]
In the guest house, Nathaniel lay comfortably on the bed. He was hugging a pillow, smiling in his sleep as he had a pleasant dream.
In this dream, he was in the middle of a meadow—one he had planted and nurtured, and now, it had grown beautifully.
“So peaceful,” he whispered, inhaling the soft wind filled with the scent of flowers. The corner of his mouth curled into a smile. He spread his arms wide, enjoying this time of tranquility.
Ever since Penny had asked him to dig, Nathaniel had continued digging and digging. He nearly uprooted the entire backyard until Zoren told him to plant flowers instead. He could’ve sworn Zoren only noticed because someone reported that Nathaniel had almost started digging a foundation for a bunker.
If not for that, Nathaniel would’ve dug his way to hell, and no one would have known.
Still, because of that, Nathaniel had slowly grown accustomed to the life of gardening. He found it peaceful and therapeutic. Although Penny sometimes gave him orders, they were too easy. Now, he was enjoying his time in this household and had been living as quietly as a dead rat.
It wasn’t far-fetched to say Nathaniel wouldn’t mind gardening for the rest of his life. Zoren was kind enough to add him to his payroll, there was free food, and Nathaniel had a room he didn’t need to pay for!
Wasn’t this the greatest?
Another person might say the downside was that Nathaniel couldn’t go out. Not that he wasn’t allowed to, but he knew he might drop dead if he was found by the people he had offended in the underground. Besides, he was an introvert. Therefore, he enjoyed the peacefulness and solitude.
“Even in my dreams, I am at peace,” he told himself. “Once everything is settled, I’ll just buy a house somewhere in the province and become a farmer.”
A satisfied look dominated his face.
Little did he know, while he was having a nice dream and planning his future in it, a few figures were standing right next to his bed.
Penny crossed her arms, her eyes down on the sleeping Nathaniel. Renny was seated beside her on the floor, waiting for her command. Chunchun, on the other hand, found a spot on the bed to sit on.
“He looks like he’s having a nice dream,” Penny remarked quietly. “Chunchun, wake him up.”
Meow.
Chunchun yawned a bit, raising its paw and casually placing it over Nathaniel’s mouth to stop his snoring… and his airways. After a moment, Nathaniel jolted awake at the sudden loss of oxygen. When he did, he was startled upon seeing a cat beside him.
“What the—” Nathaniel was about to jump out of bed upon seeing Chunchun, only to stop when a huge paw landed on his leg. He froze in an instant, his eyes meeting the predatory gaze staring back at him.
“Don’t worry,” Penny’s voice suddenly caressed his ears. “I need you to do something.”
Slowly, Nathaniel shifted his eyes to where Penny was standing. He gulped as Chunchun jumped to his feet, standing close to Penny.
‘I just… found out what I want to be in this life,’ he told himself, scanning the black and white cat before lifting his eyes to its owner. ‘I don’t feel good about this.’
Besides, couldn’t this wait?
How could Penny just trespass into the guest house in the middle of the night?!
Seeing the corner of Penny’s mouth curl up, Nathaniel watched his dream of becoming a farmer shatter.

[Wild Platinum Club]
“I should go home,” Grace announced with a sigh, checking the time and realizing it was past midnight. She glanced at the people around the table, chuckling as she saw that they were all wasted—except Max. “Anyone want to ride with me?”
Lily turned to her. “Hey, you’re not driving in that state, are you?”
“What I meant is, ride with me in the taxi,” Grace clarified, her eyes falling on Ginnie. The latter had already fallen asleep, her forehead resting on the table. “I think I should take her home.”
“No!” Lily yelled, darting her eyes toward Max. “Max will take her home!”

Grace arched a brow while Max’s brows rose, pointing at himself.
“You’re not drunk!” Lily explained, resting her arm over Ginnie’s shoulder. “You know where she lives, right?”
“No, I don’t—”
“Perfect! Take her home!”
Max: “…”
Grace blinked, then blinked again. “Lily, I don’t think you should let a man take your friend home.”
“We’re all friends!” Lily laughed, patting Ginnie’s back. “Besides, I don’t think Max would do anything to her.”
“I’m not taking her home,” Max stressed. “But I can drive her to her place and drop her off.”
“I’ll just take her home!” Hugo announced, his head resting on the back of his chair. He hiccupped before adding, “Also, Grace, you’re not taking a taxi. You’re going with me.”
“What a nice nephew I have!” Grace intoned. “However, I don’t want to take care of you.”
“Nope, nope!” Hugo shook his head and took out his phone. After tapping on it a few times, he held the phone to his ear. “Hey, First Brother, I’m really drunk. Can you pick me up at Wild Platinum Club?”
Hugo listened to the other end of the line before asking, “Is Uncle Haines there?”
“I see, I see!” Hugo rocked his head before ending the call. He grinned at Grace before tapping on his phone again, this time calling Haines. “Uncle Haines, I’m so drunk but I don’t want to drive my motorcycle—I might get into an accident! Please pick me up—no, my First Brother said I got here all alone, so I should know how to go home!”
Hugo pleaded for a full minute before the call ended. When it did, he looked around and saw Lily, Grace, and Max staring at him with intrigue. His mouth stretched into a grin as his eyes landed on Grace.
“You owe me one,” he said, before casting Lily a look. “Did I do a good job?”
Lily grinned and winked at him. “Good job!”
Grace raised her brows before laughing at the sight of Hugo and Lily high-fiving each other. Max, on the other hand, shook his head before facing Grace.
“Good luck,” he told her. “Hope this works in your favor.”
“You too,” she returned, making him furrow his brows. Grace smirked and winked at him, signaling that she was aware.
Seeing this, Max’s face flushed as he looked away. Reaching for his glass, he chugged it to squash the nervousness creeping up his spine.
