Chapter 1295: Don’t tell me they dated before?
Theo’s reaction upon laying eyes on Cassandra was suspicious. It wasn’t the look of admiration a man would give to a woman as sophisticated as Cassandra. Rather, it was a look of surprise laced with fear. Patricia noticed that. Their relationship may have been strained for many years, but she knew her brother inside and out.
Something was not right.
“So, Brother Theo, would you tell me who that woman was?” Patricia’s voice shattered the silence between them. “And stop playing with your food.”
Theo flinched, snapping back to the present. “Huh?”
“I didn’t want to pry, but if you’re acting like that, I will.” She frowned. “Who is she? An ex or something?”
“What? No!” He shook his head. “You don’t know her, Patricia?”
“Why would I? Is she important?” — more important than her?
“Haha…” A weak laugh escaped him. “You’re right. She’s not important.”
“But I’m still curious how she knew me. I know I’m popular, but I don’t like it when people act as if we’re close. Only I get to do that, not others.”
Theo smiled wryly. “It’s Cassandra. Don’t you remember her? She was part of the Star Section—Finn’s ex-fiancée… and also, my former classmate.”
“Cassandra…?” Patricia furrowed her brows, searching her memory. It didn’t take long for her to remember. After all, she’d had a huge crush on Finn back then. But he had been engaged since birth. So, even though Finn had quite a number of admirers in the past, they knew he was already taken.
Her mouth formed a round shape while Theo nodded.
“That’s right,” he said. “That’s her.”
“Wait, what?” She gasped. “If she’s the ex, why is she with the current fiancée?”
“I don’t know.” Theo shrugged. “But considering Finn and Cassandra’s engagement was arranged, it makes sense. I don’t think they ever liked each other.”
As those words left his lips, Theo lowered his gaze. But… even if she didn’t like him that way, what she considers hers will always be hers.
Only those who truly knew Cassandra understood that she wasn’t just beautiful—she had a dark, terrifying side. She was the reason Theo fled the Star Section, the reason he and Patricia grew apart.
A deep exhale escaped him. ‘But that was before.’
They were adults now. Their lives had moved on. Most importantly, he and Patricia had reconciled—that was what mattered. Whatever happened in the past should stay in the past. It no longer had a place in the present.
He forced a smile and looked at his sister. Convincing himself that Cassandra was nothing more than a ghost from the past put him at ease. Seeing her again had only brought back bitter memories, but that was all about it. Patricia didn’t need to know the entire story.
“Wow…” Patricia murmured, still processing this information. Then she shrugged. “Well, it’s none of our business, right?”
“Mhm, you’re right. That’s none of our business.” Theo nodded, his smile stretching. “We should eat.”
She agreed, and they resumed their late lunch.
After a while, Theo cleared his throat. “By the way, Patricia… Have you forgiven Nina?”
“Hmm…” She hummed, chewing her food slowly. “Forgiving her will take time, but I want to let it go. What she did to me is something I’m still paying for. She should feel bad a bit longer.”
“Patricia, forgiving people—and yourself—might be hard, but it’s liberating. Move on. It’s not like you have to be friends.”
“I’m trying,” she admitted, frowning. “But it’s not easy.”
Theo studied her, then smiled. “When you’re ready, then. Take your time. But I hope you’re not causing her more trouble, right?”
“Of course, not! I mean, not anymore. Our family will be in trouble if I keep picking on her.” She chuckled sarcastically, ready to move past the unsettling look Theo had given Cassandra. Maybe she had imagined it. There was no reason for him to be afraid of such a beautiful woman.
Although Patricia had never liked Cassandra—mainly because she was the reason she and Finn couldn’t be together—that was all in the past. Her crush on Finn had long faded, and she found it off-putting that he was now with Nina.

When the Miller siblings finished eating, Patricia twisted in her seat. “Uh, Brother Theo—”
“I’ll just use the bathroom,” he interrupted, standing abruptly. “I’ve been holding it in.”
Without waiting for a response, Theo rushed off. He had drunk too much water while eating, thanks to an accidental overdose of hot sauce. Patricia, meanwhile, watched him go.
“I need to use the bathroom too,” she muttered, glancing at their table. “I can probably hold it until he’s back.”
But she also wanted to brush her teeth after eating. Fidgeting for a moment, she decided to just go. It wasn’t like someone would steal their things.
As she neared the restroom, however, she spotted Cassandra leaning against the short hallway leading to it. For some reason, Patricia instinctively stopped—then hid.
‘What am I doing?’ she wondered. ‘It’s not like I did anything wrong to her. Though, I don’t like her.’
Shaking off the odd feeling, she was about to continue when Theo exited the restroom. He stopped abruptly upon seeing Cassandra.
“Ca—Cassandra?” He stammered.
Patricia, acting on impulse, ducked back into hiding. ‘Really? I’m hiding again? Wait. This is where I’m going to find out why he had that look earlier. Don’t tell me they dated before? Doesn’t that mean my brother was once a third party?’
She leaned against the wall, eavesdropping out of sheer curiosity.
“Theo Miller.” Cassandra smiled, peeling herself off the wall. “How have you been?”
Theo exhaled slowly, unclenching his fists. “Good.”
He stepped forward, intending to walk past her, but her voice stopped him.
“How was transferring abroad?” Her tone carried both amusement and mockery. “I heard you graduated valedictorian.”
Theo turned slightly, meeting her gaze. Cassandra smirked, studying him.
“Patricia Miller has a good brother,” she mused. “She just doesn’t realize it.”
Patricia, still listening, furrowed her brows. ‘What’s going on?’
Had she known what she was about to overhear, she wouldn’t have eavesdropped.
