Chapter 1405: You… Don’t know?
[Station Commander’s Office]
SMACK!
SMACK!
SMACK!
The station commander loosened his tie as he kept smacking the two officers and Detective Lander on the head without stopping. If not for his rising blood pressure and his age, he would’ve continued.
“Do you three have any idea what you’ve just done?!” he bellowed, his voice echoing through the office. “Ugh! I swear, I’d keep smacking you senseless—you almost cost not just your jobs, but mine as well! How could you make an arrest like this without consulting me first? Have you all lost your damn minds?!”
The two officers kept their heads down, while the detective remained defiant, keeping his head raised.
“Chief, we were just questioning Miss Miller, but she was being aggressive,” the detective defended himself. “If she had just answered our questions without freaking out, we wouldn’t have been forced to cuff her—”
SMACK!
Before the detective could finish his sentence, another slap landed on his head.
“Sir, this isn’t fair!” The officer, who had already endured the brunt of the smacks earlier, finally spoke up. “That woman assaulted me inside the station! How can you just let that slide? Even if that lawyer sues us, are we seriously going to let these rich people walk all over us—”
“Hah! And you’re the one talking about being on the elite’s payroll?” The station commander glared at them, his fury only intensifying. “Forget getting sued—you just put all our careers on the line! And that’s the best outcome we can hope for. If this escalates, there could be a full-blown investigation into this station. Do you think I don’t know about the shady business you’ve been involved in?”
He pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a migraine coming on. “That woman you want to be arrested for smacking you? You’re lucky she only smacked you after you detained her people and arresting them from inside her own company—and for a ridiculous reason! Do you have any idea who her brother is? Or the kind of people she’s connected with?”
The commander scoffed before continuing, “Her brother is the Lieutenant General. And if you think this agency is outside his jurisdiction, guess what? The Chief of Police is just one phone call away from him. If they find out you arrested someone without probable cause, do you really think you’ll keep your jobs?”
Silence.
The detective and the two officers just stood there, stunned. Their boss had spoken so fast, they needed a moment to process the weight of his words. But once they did, their faces paled.
“You three…” The station commander exhaled sharply. “Hand over your badges. Leave your guns. And take an unpaid vacation. Lay low until this mess blows over.”
Knock, knock.
Just then, another officer rapped on the office door. The station commander turned to see one of his subordinates standing there.
“Sir, the Chief of Police is on the line,” the officer reported. “He says it’s urgent and wants to speak with you about an incident that happened today.”
“Oh, for God’s sake!” The station commander roared, shooting another glare at the three who had caused this disaster.
Meanwhile, the detective and the officers could only stare blankly before surrendering their badges and guns. As they left the office, they heard their boss quickly adjusting his tone as he picked up the phone.
But in the end, the three of them found themselves walking out of the station, reeling from the situation. How had things come to this? Wasn’t their real backer supposed to be the senator’s family? Yet, here they were, stripped of their badges and guns.
Surely, the affairs of the rich were a terrifying thing to meddle in.

Meanwhile, in the Van…
Patricia sat quietly in one of the seats, staring down at her wrist. The redness had begun to fade, but a few scratches remained where the cuffs had dug into her skin. Yet, that wasn’t what left her shaken—it was everything that had just transpired at the station.
‘I don’t even know if I should feel relieved or terrified.’
She recalled Penny’s actions—how she had fearlessly smacked a police officer in the head and brushed it off as an “accident.” Then she did it again—and somehow got away with it.
Not that Patricia pitied the officer. That man—and that detective—deserved to be slapped a hundred more times for what they had done to her. But still… this was the first time Patricia had seen that side of Penny.

She had spent so much time antagonizing Penny, but the woman had never been cold toward her. If anything, Penny would either dismiss her outright or exchange petty insults like a child. But today…
‘It felt like she was holding back.’ Patricia swallowed, a lump forming in her throat. ‘She looked like she was ready to beat them within an inch of their lives.’
A chill ran down Patricia’s spine.
‘For the first time… I’m actually scared of her.’
Who would have thought she would ever feel fear toward Penny?
‘And that…’ her thoughts trailed off as she pursed her lips. ‘… That’s power.’
While Patricia was lost in thought, Shawn and Hayley exchanged uncertain glances. Aside from the driver and another bodyguard sitting in the front, the only passengers were the three of them—plus Teddy, who remained quiet, staring out the window.
“Hey,” Hayley whispered, nudging him. “Do you know what’s going on?”
Teddy didn’t react, still staring out at the passing scenery. ‘If I knew, I wouldn’t be wondering the same thing myself.’
Getting no answer from him, Hayley turned to Shawn. He simply shook his head, just as confused as the rest of them. But then, his gaze landed on Patricia’s wrist.
“That looks painful,” he muttered. “I’m sorry I couldn’t help.”
Patricia forced a small smile. “It’s alright. It’s not like you could have done anything. Some two-faced bitch framed me for something I didn’t do.”
Hayley frowned. “Who did you get into a fight with?”
She wasn’t surprised that Patricia had landed herself in trouble. She had been there when Patricia locked the other girls in the bathroom with her. She knew Patricia was bold in her own way—but never the wrong kind of bold.
No one could blame Hayley for thinking this way—after all, she had only known the new Patricia. Not the version of Patricia before her life changing incident.
Patricia sighed. “Just someone from a powerful clan. Tch.” She clicked her tongue, then shrugged. “But it’s fine now. I don’t think they’ll try something like this again after what Penny just pulled.”
“Penny?” Shawn and Hayley echoed, confused. “Who’s that?”
After a brief pause, they answered their own question as they recalled Yugi mentioning the name earlier.
“Oh, her?” Hayley tilted her head, still curious. “Who is she, anyway?”
This time, even Patricia hesitated. She darted her eyes between them and even caught Teddy giving her a curious side-eye.
“You… don’t know?” she asked, surprised.
She nearly let the cat out of the bag before biting her tongue. ‘Wait. This is an advantage.’
They still had one final interview ahead. If she wanted to secure her position, keeping this information to herself could work in her favor. Well, it was a win-win situation because she was definitely hiring these three of she got the job.
Priorities.
So, she simply flashed them a bright, innocent smile.
“Just Yugi Cortez’s cousin,” she answered, her eyes narrowing mischievously. “Don’t think too much about it.”
