Chapter 1408: That wraps up the final interview
“He won’t be able to save you. In fact, you know him, don’t you? He’d kill you himself before he lets you ruin the reputation he spent decades building.”
Cassandra whimpered through her tight, quivering lips. For a second, all she could do was stare at Penny, who mocked her not just with words but by tapping a metal pole against her head. But Cassandra couldn’t care less about that right now—she was too busy swallowing the rising fear in her throat.
This woman… she was still crazy.
Penny, on the other hand, raised the pole again—this time, striking Cassandra’s cast on the side.
“Pathetic,” she spat under her breath. “Get rid of this cast. You’re clearly not fooling anyone. If anything, you’re only hassling yourself by wearing this.”
While Penny continued to lecture Cassandra, Patricia, Shawn, Hayley, and Teddy stood frozen at the doorway, horror etched on their faces. They hadn’t wanted to enter earlier, but Yugi had encouraged them to watch as if this were something they should enjoy.
They didn’t enjoy it. Not even for a second.
What they were witnessing was assault, trespassing, and a slew of other felonies Penny could be charged with. They could just imagine just going back to the station, this time, for real charges.
Yugi simply stood off to the side, shaking his head. “Oh, my goodness…”
Just then, Grace returned, wincing as she stepped over the unconscious bodies littering the entrance. Her gaze flicked to the scene before her, then back to Yugi.
“Oh, God…” She pinched the bridge of her nose, already tallying up the problems this situation would bring. ‘She lays low for months, but whenever she causes trouble… I always end up staying up all night for an entire month just to clean up her mess.’
Grace might as well just forget about daily birthday dinners and make it an hourly celebration if she wanted to be sixty.
“Also, the next time you stage a crime, do a deeper investigation,” Penny continued, clicking her tongue in irritation. “You’ve only been hit a few times with a fake baseball bat. Even if it were real, those strikes wouldn’t have put you in the ICU.” She scoffed. “Trust me, I’ve been beaten—many, many times before. Anyone with a brain would know that wouldn’t kill you. And just one cast isn’t enough.”
With that, Penny tossed the IV pole aside before turning her sharp gaze to her audience.
“Don’t mess up again,” she warned, this time directing her words at the four applicants. “Because next time, it’ll be hell not just for people like her, but especially for you.”
She took a step toward them, pausing just a step from their frozen forms. She scanned their horrified faces, nearly laughing when she saw Patricia’s expression—pure shock. Penny had thought Patricia would be less surprised, but it was still a satisfying sight.
“Now, if you think you can handle situations like this, come back tomorrow.”
With that, Penny resumed walking, signaling Grace to follow.
“Don’t stress too much, Grace,” she added. “Someone’s already handling this.”
Just as she said that, they stepped out of the ward—where a group of doctors stood waiting just a few steps from the door.
Seeing them, Grace mentally winced before side-eyeing Penny. “How exactly are you going to fix this?” she asked, her tone flat, already bracing for trouble.
But Penny only smirked and winked. “I said someone else would fix it. Not me.”
As the doctors approached, their expressions solemn, their displeasure evident. Grace sighed, already reaching for her calling card to begin damage control.
But then—suddenly—the doctors bowed their heads in unison.
“We apologize that this happened, Miss Bennet,” the hospital director said. “We’ve already prepared the examination rooms for your appointments. My team will assist you and your company.”
“Huh?” Grace’s brows shot up in surprise. She turned to Penny, only to be met with a smug grin.
“It’s not me,” Penny said, jerking a thumb over her shoulder. “My people will need it. Please assist them.”
“Understood.”
Penny then turned to Grace and tipped her head. “Let’s go, Grace.”
Still baffled, Grace followed closely. As they walked, she leaned in. “Penny, just how busy am I that I didn’t know you expanded your network?”

Penny halted, glancing back with a smirk. “Oh, it’s not my network.” She turned to the hospital director. “By the way, Director, when you call CEO Pierson back, let him know I said thank you. I’m very satisfied with your help.”
The director offered a small smile. “Understood. Thank you.”
Grace blinked, then cast Penny a knowing look. Penny simply grinned.
“Wow,” Grace muttered as they resumed walking. “I almost forgot your husband is Zoren Pierson.”
Penny chuckled. “He’s been sick all his life—he practically knows every doctor in Anteca.”
Grace laughed. “I guess that means I’ll be making a lot of calls again. This time, to tell your lawyers it was a false alarm.”

Meanwhile…
Yugi watched Penny and Grace disappear down the hall before turning his sharp gaze to the four applicants. He was mildly surprised at Patricia—he had assumed she already knew Penny was crazy.
‘I guess Penny was actually lenient with her all along,’ he thought. ‘Though, to be fair, Patricia was never much of a threat to begin with.’
He cleared his throat. “Ahem!”
The four flinched, their wide eyes snapping to him.
Yugi’s face contorted at their aghast expressions. “You heard her. If you think you can handle that kind of craziness, come back tomorrow.”
“Huh?” Teddy, Shawn, and Hayley made a confused noise in unison.
Teddy was the first to recover. “Wait, sir—uh—I mean… what exactly do you mean by that?”
“Yeah,” Hayley added, forcing herself to steady her voice. “Sir, what’s going on? I think I just saw your cousin assault someone.”
“Is this the final interview?” Shawn blurted out in horror. “Are we hired? And also… who is that woman? Why did you let your cousin do all that…?”
Yugi’s gaze flickered between them before his lips curled into a wide, mischievous grin.
“That’s Penny—our big boss. And you heard her. If you think you can handle her, you can start tomorrow. That wraps up your final interview. You’re hired, now it’s up to you if you show up tomorrow or not.”
