Chapter 1413: How could these two be so lucky?!
[SKYLINE PLAZA: ZOREN’S]
“So, these people are officially hired, huh?” Zoren held Penny in his arms as they idly lounged on the couch. His gaze remained on the résumés in her hand, which she was showing him.
Penny looked up at him. “What do you think of them?”
“Nothing,” he replied before his dark eyes shifted to Patricia’s résumé. “Although, I am surprised you ended up hiring Patricia Miller.”
If it had been up to Zoren, Patricia would be gone—disappeared somewhere in the wild where no one could find her. After what she did to him months ago, he would’ve punished her far more severely. If not for Penny, that punishment would have already been carried out.
Surely, his wife make him a better person.
“I know, right?” Penny clicked her tongue, snapping her eyes to Patricia’s profile. “But, well, I already meddled in her business, so I had no choice but to hire her in the end.”
Penny hadn’t originally planned to hire Patricia. The woman amused her, but not enough to justify giving her a position. Though Patricia’s enthusiasm was admirable—especially considering she usually reserved it for vile and selfish deeds—it wasn’t enough.
That was why Penny hadn’t thought much of it when Grace mentioned in passing that she’d seen Patricia at the courthouse. So why did she hire her? Because of how things played out today. Besides, Penny was becoming more and more intrigued by Cassandra.
By keeping Patricia, she knew there were endless opportunities to cross paths with the woman.
In a way, Patricia could consider this the luck of a lifetime.
“Even though I said that, are you really fine with it?” Penny asked, studying Zoren’s face. “If you haven’t forgiven her, I can still change my decision.”
Zoren smiled and shook his head. “It’s your company, Penny. Who am I to interfere?”
“You’re my husband.”
“A husband who believes in and trusts his wife,” he returned just as quickly, his smile widening. “It’s alright, Penny. Whether I’ve forgiven her or not doesn’t matter, as long as she doesn’t burden you anymore.”
“Hehe.” Penny giggled, squeezing herself against his side as she glanced at the papers in her hand. “Look at this one.”
She showed him Hayley’s résumé. “Impressive, isn’t it?”
“Is it?” Zoren skimmed through the file briefly before giving his wife a look. “If you were a man, do you think you’d consider her a love interest?”
“What?” She blinked. “Renren, that’s so random. Didn’t you see where she used to work?”
“I did, but I’m more curious about this matter.”
“Oh.” Penny puffed her cheeks, studying his ever-unchanging expression. Was this a trick question? She pondered for a moment before grinning. “If I were a man, I’d still bend for you.”
Zoren narrowed his eyes while Penny’s grin stretched until her eyes were mere slits.
“Anyway,” she continued, brushing past whatever thought was brewing in his mind, “Yugi and everyone approved of her. If she hadn’t skipped all those steps, they’re sure she would’ve made it in somehow.”
“This guy, however…” Penny hummed as she moved on to Shawn’s résumé. “I’m still not sure why I hired him, to be honest. He is big, but also, the biggest coward I’ve seen.”
“Is it because you were intrigued?”
“Hmm?”
“You said Patricia Miller had a few good words about him,” Zoren reminded her, nodding toward the résumé. “So I’m guessing that’s why he made it.”
Penny thought about it before shaking her head. “It’s true I wanted to see him in the final interview, but I wasn’t planning to hire him. Not when Yugi wasn’t confident in him, and not when he failed the standard job interview.”
“I guess it was out of pity, then,” Zoren muttered, bitterness swelling in his heart as he glared at Patricia and Shawn’s résumés. “If he hadn’t gone out of his way to help Patricia Miller, he’d be looking for another job right now. He’s lucky.”

Zoren was genuinely pleased that Penny’s department at Prime Group now had more people—it meant less work for her. But at the same time, he couldn’t help feeling bitter that these four had no idea how fortunate they were to work so closely with his wife.
That was… his dream.
“Well.” Penny shrugged indifferently. “I guess he is. Haha. My people are so lucky! I hope they bring that luck to the company.”
Unaware of the curses forming in Zoren’s mind, Penny’s brows shot up as her eyes landed on Teddy’s résumé. She plucked it from the pile and set the rest aside.
“This one, though, I like.” She held it up for Zoren to see, snapping him out of his daze.
Zoren slowly refocused on the résumé, catching sight of the huge question mark in the middle of the page. He’d noticed it earlier but hadn’t given it much thought.
“He’s the one Yugi Cortez poached himself?”
“Mhm!” She nodded with a laugh. “Yugi said he found him in the new neighborhood where he rented a small space to hide from Aunt Jessa. Apparently, he first saw him reading an interesting book, then later helping some local kids with their homework. Though I’m sure there’s a lot more that piqued Yugi’s interest than he told me, but I’m glad he did. This Teddy Arthur is working as a cashier in a convenience store right now, just because it’s the most decent job he could find at the moment. He’s also doing a lot of side gigs to provide for his little brother with special needs.”
Zoren raised a brow, scrutinizing Teddy’s photo. “He doesn’t look like that kind of guy.”
“Haha, I know, right?” Penny laughed. “If you’d seen him during his interview, you’d think the same. I’m actually impressed. He’s the only one who impressed me.”
“Is that so?” Zoren’s eyes lit up as he mentally burned the word Impressed into Teddy’s forehead in the photo, as if marking him already.
“Mhm. It’s sad that someone like him is being held back just because certain people don’t like him,” she sighed.
At first, Yugi had been simply curious about Teddy, which led him to run a background check. Once he got the results, he went to the convenience store just before Teddy’s shift. He then deliberately left a job advertisement outside, in plain sight—right where Teddy would notice it.
In simple words, Teddy was the only applicant, who was invited to apply for the job.
