Chapter 1435: Bowl of soup
[SKYLINE PLAZA: Zoren’s]
Old Mrs. Pierson happily entered the home with Butler Hubert’s assistance. Since there were no live-in helpers at Zoren’s home, they brought their own to assist the Old Madam.
“Old Madam, why don’t you let me do it for you?” Butler Hubert remarked, letting her hold onto his arm. “Miss Penny told you to rest as much as possible.”
Old Mrs. Pierson waved him off. “This is the least I can do for my little angel. When Enzo was alive, I used to fill his fridge with all sorts of herbal teas and nutritious foods. Since this is all I can do for my little Penelope, I want to do it myself.”
Although Penny and Zoren often visited the Pierson residence, the Old Madam occasionally dropped by, usually when she had prepared something for the couple to share for dinner. She also liked to check what else they needed so she could prepare it for them again.
With that, Old Mrs. Pierson and Butler Hubert headed straight to the kitchen, while the other helpers carried in ingredients, fruits, and various meats and fish.
“Let’s see…” Old Mrs. Pierson let go of Butler Hubert’s arm as she stood in front of the fridge. Her mouth stretched into a wide smile, deepening the wrinkles on her face. “This is why I love giving her food. She eats everything.”
Although there were still some food containers inside, the supply was less than half of what she had last provided. Pleased, Old Mrs. Pierson began her routine, checking what was left and what needed restocking. As she inspected, she stumbled upon a particular soup container.
“This one…” She narrowed her eyes, picking it up to check if there was any left inside.
It was still full.
The last time she had given Penny food, Old Mrs. Pierson distinctly remembered handing her this specific soup. It was meant for Zoren—to enhance his performance and ensure he wouldn’t let go of his wife all night. To avoid confusion with other soups, she had placed it in this special container.
“Old Madam, I don’t think the Young Master would drink that,” Butler Hubert commented, eyeing the red soup container in her hand. “He has always been competitive and prideful. He won’t drink it simply because he believes he can perform without it.”
Old Mrs. Pierson frowned. “That’s exactly why I didn’t tell Renren about it. However, I told Penelope to make him drink it without his knowledge.”
“Well…” Butler Hubert pressed his lips into a thin line. “I suppose Miss Penelope thinks he’s performing well enough.”
“That is not the point, Butler Hubert,” Old Mrs. Pierson shook her head. “Penelope is ovulating—if my calendar is correct. This soup isn’t just for performance; it also helps improve the chances of a successful conception.”
Butler Hubert’s eyebrows lifted in realization, while Old Mrs. Pierson nodded knowingly.
“Ahh…” He pounded his fist lightly against his palm. “So, that’s how it is.”
“They’ve been at it day and night, yet Penelope still isn’t pregnant. I can only blame Renren for that. Even though he’s improving with treatment, I’m certain his past health issues are preventing him from impregnating Penny.” She sighed. “I’m old, Butler Hubert. I want to help them in any way I can. A set of quadruplets might be his wishful thinking, but seeing their child—just one—would fulfill my final wish.”
Butler Hubert smiled in defeat. “Then, what should we do, Old Madam?”
“Heh.” Old Mrs. Pierson smirked mischievously, giving him a look.
After decades of working for her, Butler Hubert knew exactly what she was thinking.
If Penny wouldn’t serve it to her husband, they would serve it to them!

“Uncle Haines, what is it?” Penny asked as soon as the call connected. “Oh, and I’m sorry for not calling you back sooner. I had a lot to do, so my phone was on silent mode.”
Haines didn’t answer immediately. “Where are you right now?”
“Uh… heading home?”
“I see.” Haines nodded, still seated in his office at Miller’s Company. “Then, I’ll drop by your place.”
“Uncle Haines, is something wrong with Miller’s Company?” Penny asked, her curiosity piqued. “If so, I can just go there and check it myself.”
Haines shook his head. “The company is fine, but I have something to discuss with you.”
“Er… can’t we just talk about it over the phone?”

“We could, but I’d rather discuss it in person.”
“Oh.” Penny’s brows lifted as she crinkled her nose, intrigued. “Now I’m even more curious. Well, if you say so, I’ll be home in about an hour.”
“Alright.”
With that, Haines ended the call, leaving Penny staring at her phone curiously.
“I wonder what that’s about,” she mumbled, tilting her head as she ran through potential topics he might bring up. “He sounded serious… but oh well.”
Whatever it was, she and Haines would figure it out. She had no intention of stressing over it in advance.
“Miss Penny.” Mark, seated in the driver’s seat, glanced at her through the rearview mirror. “Aren’t we stopping by the bakeshop?”
“Oh!” Penny’s mouth fell open as she recalled her plan to buy the same cake she had gotten for Nina. “Right! Let’s go there first.”
“But weren’t you going to meet your uncle?”
Penny chuckled, waving dismissively. “Don’t worry about him. The bakeshop is close to home, so I’m sure it’s fine. Besides, he’s still at the company. I doubt he’ll arrive before I do.”
Just as she said that, her phone rang again. Glancing at the caller ID, she tilted her head before answering.
“Third Brother!” she intoned cheerfully. “How’s life?”
“Penny! I went to your office, but they said you already left!”
“Uh… yes, I did?”
Slater frowned. “But you promised we’d have dinner tonight!”
“I did?” Her nose wrinkled. “When?”
“Sometime ago, when I told you I had a day off. That time you ignored my calls all day.”
Penny’s face contorted in thought. She probably had agreed to it on a whim. Letting out a sigh, she forced a smile.
“Third Brother, I’m already headed home. How about we just eat dinner there?” she suggested. “First Brother is also coming over. Why don’t you join us?”
“I’m already on my way to your place!” Slater huffed. “And you also promised me chocolates! So, I’m expecting them as well. Anyway, see you!”
“Uh…” Penny blinked. Then, after a second, she shrugged. “Oh well.”
She didn’t think much of it, but little did she know, something very chaotic was about to unfold that night.
And it would all start with a bowl of soup.
