Chapter 1529: It’s always the bet
Patricia scribbled on a piece of paper out of boredom. She knew she had plenty of work, but somehow, her brain wasn’t functioning the way she wanted it to. Just then, she noticed a figure approaching the CEO’s office.
“Uh, excuse me, you can’t —” Patricia gasped, momentarily mesmerized at the young man standing across from her. Her mouth fell as her cheeks turned pinkish.
He’s… my type.
Her daze, however, was quickly shattered when the “young man” spoke. “What?”
“Huh?” Patricia blinked, the look of admiration slowly changing into dismay. “Penny?!”
Standing across the reception area was Penny. However, unlike the usual smart casual attire she would wear in the office, she was dressed in a loose shirt and equally loose jeans, with a chain hanging at the side. But that wasn’t what surprised Patricia; it was the short wig she was wearing, topped with a cap. There were some fake piercings at the end of her lips and her ear.
Patricia moved closer to get a better look. “Oh, my God. It’s really you!” she gasped again, disbelief clear in her eyes.
Penny also had a large beauty mark on her cheekbone, which looked more like an unsightly mole.
“Are you okay?” Patricia asked, rushing out from behind her desk. “Did you hit your head last night?”
Penny deadpanned. “I didn’t hit my head. I’m going out for a bit. If anyone asks where I am, tell them I’m busy.”
“Mark,” she continued, as Mark stood up from his chair. “Let’s go.”
Without further explanation, Penny walked away, and Mark quietly followed her.
Meanwhile, in the CEO’s department, a young man was spotted walking out of what seemed to be the CEO’s office. Mark, Penny’s bodyguard, followed closely behind.
“Who is that?” Shawn whispered, furrowing his brows.
Hayley, on the other hand, shook her head. “I have no idea.” Then she paused, her eyes widening. “Is it… is it… her husband?!”
Her mouth dropped as her eyes darted between the man and the others. Teddy and Shawn exchanged worried glances, their complexions paling.
Although the man looked a little younger and shorter than they expected, he seemed to fit the description of Penny’s husband. Penny’s husband was known to be a good-for-nothing, and judging by his clothes, he looked like a deadbeat with no job.
Mark, following him, only raised more suspicions.
Mark only followed Penny. He was her shadow, and for him to leave with another person, it wouldn’t be surprising if he was leading “him” to the penthouse. After all, they knew Penny was there and hadn’t come down.
“Oh, my God…” Hayley whispered in horror, hanging her head low. “I never thought I’d encounter this dilemma so soon.”
Penny was a good boss, but as her assistants, could they stomach the fact that their boss was unfaithful to her marriage?
Even if it was “justified,” because compared to Zoren, no man could match him.
Perhaps Atlas Bennet, but that man was already her brother.
It was still morally wrong no matter what!

“Miss Penny, why are you wearing a wig?” Mark, seated in the driver’s seat, cast Penny a look.
Surprisingly, Penny chose to sit in the front seat. The window on her side was down as she checked herself in the mirror.
“Ah. I’m planning to visit the lab at the Anteca branch,” she explained disinterestedly, still focused on her mole.
“Is this really necessary?”
“Of course. Otherwise, how would they let me in?”

“???” Mark furrowed his brows, his eyes on the road, wondering if he should ask for clarification.
Noticing his confusion, Penny glanced at him and laughed. She reached into her pockets, pulling out a small card, some folded cash, and an identification card, all wrapped in a rubber band.
“Here. This might explain it,” she said, handing him her identification card. It was her medical license.
Mark briefly glanced at it and took it, keeping most of his focus on the road as he checked the identification card.
Sure enough, it did explain it… but not entirely.
Penny’s picture on her medical license showed her with short hair, like a man’s haircut. She also had the mole, and he wasn’t sure if it was the lighting, but she looked a little more muscular in the picture. Glancing at her briefly, Penny did indeed look a little muscular, if not for her voice.
Penny grinned as he returned her license. “You remember, when I was a kid, I was really fat. It’s a shame I lost all that because apparently, hard work and a busy schedule can make you lose weight. But anyway, I kept telling everyone I was actually a boy.”
“At first, I was just messing with them,” she laughed, and Mark didn’t question it.
Even as an adult, Penny loved her nonsense, and there was never a week that passed without her pulling off something crazy.
“But as I grew older, I thought I should keep up with the prank,” she said. “Before I knew it, I became a man in their eyes.”
“…” Mark kept his mouth shut for a while before muttering under his breath, “Your prank lasted that long?”
“I know, right? I didn’t even notice the time.”
“…” Mark shook his head slightly. “Miss Penny, you continue to surprise me every day.”
“Hehe.” Penny smirked proudly. “I even courted a few ladies.”
“Please don’t tell me the details.”
“There was this girl, she was very pretty with golden locks and blue eyes. She looked like an angel…”
Mark tried to block out the details she was spilling, hoping none of them would register in his mind. But alas, as she rambled on about her crazy “youth” as a young man, Mark couldn’t unhear any of it.
‘I hope the master won’t ask me about this… at all,’ he told himself, dreading the possibility.
Penny, on the other hand, laughed as she leaned back. “You know the best part?”
“Miss Penny, please, that’s enough.”
“My professors were in on it too,” she added, smirking. “They all made a bet, you know? Every year, they bet whether I’d get exposed or not. Of course, I bet that I wouldn’t, so I worked hard and even duct-taped the Dean’s mouth a few times.”
After hearing this, Mark couldn’t help but glance at her. “So it wasn’t just the prank, or that you lost track of time? It was actually the bet?”
“…” Penny didn’t answer, but grinned. When she did, her voice modulated into something more manly, catching him off guard. “It’s always the bet.”
