Chapter 1594: The next name
“Going out now?”

Kiara opened her mouth slightly but then closed it again. For a brief moment, she just studied him as he took off his gloves, as if he were preparing to leave with her.

“Hugo, I told you…” she trailed off, watching his brows shoot up. “I can drive myself to see her.”

“I know.” He smiled. “Let’s go?”

Kiara sighed in defeat. Initially, she felt deeply indebted to him, but, just like him, she didn’t want to owe him too much. Although buying him meals was a very small repayment, it was the only thing she could do right now, and also, she didn’t want to bother him.

But the guy bothered himself.

“Fine,” she conceded, knowing he would pester her anyway. “But you’re not driving. I will.”

After saying that, Kiara turned her back on him and walked away. Hugo, on the other hand, tilted his head to the side.

“I didn’t know she had a car,” he muttered.

Well, she didn’t have a car, and Hugo would soon realize what she meant by that.

After briefly shouting to everyone that he was leaving with the boss, Hugo found himself standing in front of a scooter. Kiara was seated on it, her ankles stretched to the ground to balance it while she wore her helmet.

“…” Hugo didn’t say anything, but the way his entire face was squeezed in the middle said it all.

When she locked her helmet, she turned to him. “What? Didn’t you say you were tagging along?”

“You want me to ride this one?”

“What’s wrong with it?”

“I have a bigger motorbike,” he stressed. “And it looks ten times better than this.”

“…” Kiara blinked, a little tired to even come up with anything.

Last night, after all, this guy just told her that they should live together. That he should move in, and with the condition that she would feed him. It didn’t actually sound like he was asking to be her roommate but more like he wanted to be adopted like a pet.

Good thing Stephen’s persistent pestering had trained her to handle this level of absurdity.

“Hugo, are you coming or what?” she asked flatly. “If you don’t want to ride a small scooter, that’s fine with me too.”

Hugo sighed. “Fine.”

With a relaxed stretch of his leg, he moved over to the scooter. His weight made the scooter press down, almost causing her to lose balance due to the added weight. Thankfully, unlike her, who needed to tiptoe to reach the ground, Hugo could stretch his legs wider even while sitting.

“You know what? If you were being chased on the road, I’d suggest you just surrender,” he commented as he put on his sleek helmet while climbing onto the scooter. “This scooter can outdrive a bicycle… or a turtle.”

He then stopped and held onto the back. “I’m ready,” he said, as if he hadn’t just made a sarcastic comment.

With his feet acting as the stand, Kiara just huffed and tried to focus. With his weight, the scooter wiggled slightly at first before she eventually got used to having a heavier passenger.

And, in a way, as they headed to her destination, Hugo proved he was right.

The scooter was very slow, and what should’ve been a half-hour ride became an hour-long ride.

—

“I almost fell asleep on our way here,” Hugo idled on the scooter, acting like he was its guard.

When they arrived, Kiara just told him she would be back. Not that he was planning to follow her inside—he wasn’t interested.

Throwing his hands behind his head, he yawned slightly. But as he did, he caught a car out of the corner of his eye. Sliding his gaze to it, all he saw was the car already driving away.

Hugo huffed and followed the car with his gaze.

“I would’ve followed them,” he muttered as he intuitively reached for his leg. “But this thing will kill me.”

The enemies—if they were enemies—might not be able to win in a head-to-head brawl. However, with Hugo still healing, fighting wasn’t ideal. His presence around Kiara, however, was enough to stop anyone from getting too close to her.

As long as they bought that scarecrow tactic, Kiara should be fine.

Is it really just because she’s trying to help Cassandra?

Hugo slowly turned his head, his eyes snapping toward the entrance of the prison. His silence was long and thick as his mind drifted, wondering why people suddenly had their eyes on Kiara.

It could only be three things: One, because she was trying to help Cassandra. The second theory was that Kiara actually had some shady dealings no one had yet discovered.

And third… Stephen Bennet.

Because Stephen had been bothering the young lady, some people might have assumed she was his safekeeper. It was a possibility, if one didn’t look closely.

Hugo leaned back, humming a long tune before gazing up at the sky.

“How I wish I could just heal magically,” he whispered. “It would’ve been better to solve this mystery if I could.”

—

[GLOBAL PRIME LOGISTICS]

Stephen, like usual, started his day the same way. There was a significant difference now, though, because of his newly hired bodyguards and some officers around him. However, they didn’t interfere with anything else, so he just went about his day normally.

“I wonder… if Hugo helped her?” he wondered to himself, pausing his work just to think about it.

After a second, he shook his head and sighed. “That young lady is very kind. I’m sure Hugo would see that and help her.”

Not dwelling on it, Stephen reached for the next handful of documents on top of the pile on his desk. But just as he pulled them, a card slipped between the folders and fell to the floor.

“Huh?” Stephen furrowed his brows, following the card as it floated down until it reached the carpet.

For a second, Stephen just stared at it blankly. The card was black with some gold print on it—a design that looked very familiar.

He gulped, his heart immediately thudding in his chest. Slowly, he bent over and picked it up. His fingertips trembled as he held it, straightening his back. Fear bubbled in his chest as he looked at the card.

There were no instructions on it, just a single name. He paled as he read under his breath:

“Kiara.”
