Chapter 1639: I’m not talking to my sister, but my contact
[SKYLINE PLAZA: Zoren’s]
Most lights in the separate guesthouse of the residence were shut off. With barely any light from outside penetrating the windows, Penny could barely see the person lying unconscious on the bed—the same bed Nathaniel had used when he was here.
Penny sat in a chair a few meters from the bed, arms crossed under her chest.
“I thought abducting Jonathan would fill this place,” she whispered, narrowing her eyes. “But I guess you should expect the unexpected.”
Patricia should’ve told Penny earlier. No matter how lame it would sound, Penny would always check its validity herself. But then again, Patricia had been careful, treading on eggshells. Probably because everyone assumed she’d make a mistake that could end her budding career.
Leaning back, Penny didn’t want to dwell on it anymore.
Was she worried about the trio? (Patricia, Theo, and Hayley) Absolutely.
What happened spiraled out of control, but thankfully, despite their panic, they still managed to get this woman tied up. Still, she was unsure if that was a good thing or if she should recommend them a good therapist.
“The bottom line is… I need to call Finn,” she whispered, sighing as she remembered her husband’s absence, because Finn couldn’t shut his damn mouth. “I swear, if something happened to my husband… Finn’s the first to go.”
With Nina’s mother’s injuries tended to and sedated to keep her sleeping, Penny knew she wouldn’t wake up—not tonight. But before she left, she walked closer to check the woman’s cuffs. She nodded in satisfaction, thinking that keeping one arm and one foot cuffed to the bed would keep her from leaving.
Not that Penny was worried this woman could sneak out of here, even if she wanted to.
There was no way she could slip away with so many people stationed at the residence. However, she had to cuff her for only one reason: Renny.
Even from a mile away, Renny would be able to detect another person’s presence and scent. And if that happened, this woman would be done for. That was the last thing Penny wanted.
When Penny walked out of the guesthouse, she stopped upon spotting Angel.
Angel was waiting for her on the side, approaching her. He leaned closer, whispering, “Sir Hugo is here with a few guests.”
“Second Brother?” She arched a brow, casting him a look. “Who is he with?”
“I don’t know the other one, but the woman with him is probably someone you know personally,” he remarked, giving her a knowing look.
Deep lines appeared between Penny’s brows as she held Angel’s gaze. After a second, she nodded and resumed her steps.
—
Penny sat on the couch, arms spread on the armrests. Her eyes studied her second brother, then the two women seated across from him.
Kiara and Cassandra.
“…” Penny kept her mouth shut as she shifted her attention back to Hugo. “Second Brother, it’s not like I don’t know what you’ve been up to lately. But… what did you say?”
“Let these girls stay in Prime Group.” Hugo fluttered his eyelashes almost coquettishly and innocently. “Please? First Brother doesn’t want to lend his place, but I’m thinking you should.”
“Should?”
Hugo nodded. “You should.”
“And why should I?”
“Penny—” Hugo stopped, biting his tongue as he let out a deep exhale. He just cast his sister a look. “Just do this for me.”
“…” Penny studied her second brother, who seemed to come in here without any intention of accepting a “no.”
After a breath, she leaned back and sighed. “Second Brother, do you know that I don’t like her?” she asked, pointing directly at Cassandra, her eyes locking on Hugo. “If you don’t, then let me say… I don’t like her. Not even a bit.”
“You didn’t have to like her to lend her your place.”

“…”
Cassandra bit her tongue; her feelings at this point were squashed into one that she didn’t know whether to feel offended or understanding. Penny had all the reasons not to like her.
“I agree with her,” she blurted out with a heavy breath, forcing a smile as the siblings cast her a look. “Penny and I don’t get along well. Besides, what I did… is a bit…”
She trailed off, sensing the curious look on Kiara’s face. Seeing the slight curiosity in Kiara’s eyes, she bit her inner bottom lip.
“What did you do?” Hugo asked, blinking innocently.
His question forced Cassandra to cast her a look, holding her breath as she gulped. She appreciated his help until now, but she wasn’t so sure if Hugo would be so willing to give help if he found out what Cassandra did to Nina.
“Well, the thing is—”
Before Cassandra could explain what happened and face the repercussions, Penny interjected.
“She’s arrogant. That’s what she did.”
Cassandra’s brows rose, looking at Penny in surprise. Penny’s expression remained cold and distant, clearly telling Cassandra she wasn’t covering up for her sake.
“She and I don’t like each other for many reasons,” Penny continued, snapping her eyes back to Hugo. “Mainly because she’s Finn’s ex-fiancé.”
Hugo frowned. “Penny, that engagement wasn’t even real. And Finn told me they weren’t in a real relationship.”
“Even so, she used to be Nina’s competition, and I don’t befriend people who were bad to her.”
“You hired Patricia Miller, though.”
“I asked for Nina’s blessing, and the Millers were under the Miller Company, which is now under the Prime Group,” Penny dawdled, just trying to make things sound a little more distracting to tire Hugo’s mind.
“That’s a bit unreasonable,” Hugo’s frown deepened. After a second, he glanced at the ladies, then back at Penny. “They’re going to die, Penny.”
The second those words suddenly flew out of his mouth without warning, both Kiara and Cassandra jolted in surprise.
“Hugo—” Kiara called quietly, studying the look on Penny’s face.
He wasn’t supposed to disclose this information, right?
It was his request, right?
It was why, even when Hugo got scolded by his parents, they didn’t try to clarify it. They simply said that since the case was high-profile, they were worried about Cassandra’s safety—especially since the news about her release hadn’t reached the media yet.
But Hugo smiled at them and casually said, “Don’t worry. I’m not talking to my sister, but my contact,” he chuckled, giving Penny a look. “What I’m saying is the CEO of Prime Group. The only place that can protect you two at this point.”
