Chapter 389: Looks smart
It wasn’t like the Pierson Family or Pierson Corporation was unknown to Atlas. In fact, he had often heard about them on the rare occasions he attended some events. However, he had paid them no mind, as he had no plans to associate with or offend them.
“Hah!” the chairman sighed heavily, glaring daggers at his grandson. “Atlas, if stepping down will appease them, then you should clear out your desk today.”
Atlas glanced at his grandfather, a man he never truly felt was one. “I encountered a Pierson, but I don’t believe I offended him.”
“Hmph! If you didn’t offend the Piersons, then why are they here?” the chairman snorted. “You brat! You’ve only been in that position for a short while, but it seems the little power you hold has gone to your head!”
“Grandpa, I think Atlas might be telling the truth,” Sven remarked politely, suddenly siding with Atlas. However, Atlas knew his cousin all too well.
The chairman scoffed as he glanced at Sven. “Sven, you should be tougher. In the world we live in, if you’re not tough, you’ll only create weaklings. I despise weaklings. That being said, remember not to become a bully as you strive to be strong.”
“Obviously, Atlas has forgotten my teachings!” he continued, once again casting a glare at Atlas.
Atlas remained stoic under his grandfather’s glares and the obvious sneer from his cousin. Just like his expression, his heart also remained still. After all, he unfortunately shared the same blood as them. Other than that, Atlas didn’t feel the need to be hurt by people who would break his heart at a moment’s notice.
It wasn’t as if the chairman ever treated Charles Bennet’s children as real grandchildren. Instead, they favored their cousins more. Perhaps it was because Charles chose to shield his children from the Bennet rules and teachings that the chairman remained distant toward them.
“I am not a bully,” Atlas spoke after a moment, halting the conversation between the chairman and Sven. “I’m not one, I’ve never been one, and I’ll never be one. Slater was bullied, and I refuse to become like the person who caused his suffering.”
“Hah! You talk big when we’re already in trouble!” the chairman snorted. “Atlas Bennet, I’ll repeat this one last time: if the Piersons… no, even if the Piersons don’t ask you to step down, if they demand anything after you’ve offended them, then you’re done.”
Sven smirked triumphantly, feeling as though those remarks were music to his ears. ‘Hah! Atlas, it’s time to get off your high horse.’
“I will.” Atlas nodded. “Even with a heavy heart, I will step down, Chairman.”
“Good!” the chairman nodded in satisfaction.
“Atlas, just be grateful that Grandpa is here, and that this happened while he’s here. Otherwise, things might have escalated if he wasn’t present!” Sven commented with a tone of relief. “Let’s wrap this up quickly, and then you should apologize to Ito Motors. In that case, everything will still go as planned.”
He then paused and cleared his throat. “Moreover, the Prime Group is on our side. From what I’ve heard, the Prime Group has already started its operations. Although there are still some adjustments in the country, I heard their big boss is already here.”
“I know.” Atlas blinked, knowing his sister had been with them for weeks now.
“Haha. Cousin, how would you know that?” Sven laughed. “Only a few close people know that the Prime Group’s big boss is already in the country. I know you’re trying to impress Grandpa, but you should be careful, Cousin. You might not know this, but the Prime Group’s big boss, T. Mouse, is a very private and strict person. He might think you’ve been snooping around.”
The chairman glanced at Sven and nodded in satisfaction. Surely, this grandson of his made him proud. If only he had known that Atlas was only book smart, he would’ve chosen Sven instead of following Charles’s and Haines’s recommendations.
“He?” Atlas tilted his head slightly. “Did you refer to the Prime Group’s big boss as ‘he’?”
“Cousin, what are you insinuating now?” Sven chuckled. “Everyone knows that T. Mouse is a man—an old man. Although from what I’ve gathered, I heard that T. Mouse used to be a felon.”
The chairman frowned. “The big boss of the Prime Group was convicted? Sven, why have I never heard about this? And why would we associate with someone who has a dirty past?”
“Hehe. Grandpa, even though he has that past, everyone respects, fears, and admires T. Mouse,” Sven cajoled. “Since he runs a security firm, his background actually isn’t a disadvantage. Moreover, Prime Group handles security for some of the most famous and well-known personalities. From what I’ve heard, they even sent guards to a royal prince for added security during his trip. So, his past is just a small fraction compared to his connections and business.”
The chairman nodded thoughtfully. During his time, not all politicians, especially businessmen, had clean hands. The competition was ruthless back in the day.
“I see,” the chairman nodded, appeased by Sven’s persuasion.
‘Persuasion is his real talent,’ thought Atlas, watching this all unfold before him. ‘I can’t believe that while they were stressing about the Piersons, Sven managed to indirectly impress the chairman.’
Atlas was learning, but he also knew the hardest part was execution. He could never see himself acting like Sven, even in front of their grandfather.
Just then, they heard a knock on the door. Turning their heads, they saw Allen open the door, revealing a group of men standing behind him. Slowly, Atlas rose from his seat to welcome these unexpected guests. The chairman remained seated while Sven also rose.
“Please, come in,” Allen stepped aside nervously, watching the man leading the group.
Atlas studied the man at the front and thought about one thing: the man looked smart.
