For a moment, Ray felt like he was dreaming… or that he was witnessing a nightmare.

“Take care, okay?” Zoren’s eyes softened as a loving smile spread across his face. “Tell me once you reach your office.”

Penny pursed her lips, a smile gradually replaced her initial shock. “Mhm. You too.”

Zoren smiled in satisfaction while Penny gazed up at him affectionately. The two of them stared at each other before Zoren let her go reluctantly. As he took a step back, Penny glanced at Ray’s blank face and sighed.

‘Well, I guess this is better. It’ll save me from getting harassed by him,’ she told herself before jumping into the driver’s seat.

Zoren courteously closed the door for her, taking another step back as he watched her drive away. He raised a hand, waving mildly to say goodbye.

As for Ray, his mouth gaped as he stared at his devious cousin. His brain, which used to be the second sharpest in the star section, couldn’t process what he had just seen. If anything, he questioned it.

Did he really just witness his cousin kiss the woman he liked?!

What kind of abomination was this?

Slowly, Ray’s face crumpled, and before he could think, he pointed a finger at Zoren. “Cousin, what was that about!? I knew Penny was pretty, but I’m your cousin! How could you do this to me right in front of me?!”

Zoren cast Ray a disinterested look, hoping Ray would be able to put two and two together. However, it didn’t seem like that was the case.

“Cousin, why would you hurt me like that!?” Ray gasped in dismay. “You can’t just do that to someone you met! Didn’t you say you’re married? How could you steal a kiss from Penny? Worst of all, she’s the one I’m wooing!”

“You’re the one who’s hurting me,” Zoren said flatly, making Ray scoff.

“What do you mean, I’m hurting you? Aren’t you afraid of your own wife? I didn’t know you were such a player! You promised that your wife would help me choose a ring for —”

“She did help you, didn’t she?” Zoren tilted his head slightly. “My wife promised to help you choose a ring, and she did.”

“What?”

Zoren shook his head, imagining the idiotic look plastered on Ray’s face. He didn’t say anything more as he waved a hand, signaling the car from a distance to approach them.

Ray opened and closed his mouth, pointing his thumb to where Penny went and then to himself. Only after a second did he fully remember Zoren’s wife.

“Wha—what?” he stuttered, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets. “Penny… Penny is your wife?! How come?! She didn’t say she’s married!”

“Just during the meal alone, she told you she’s married at least three times,” Zoren sighed, unable to feel a shred of sympathy for this guy. “Just a word of advice from a man who has been happily married for five years—listen to the woman’s heart, and not just to yourself, cousin.”

As soon as those words rolled off Zoren’s tongue, his driver pulled over in front of them. He didn’t idle and simply entered the car, speeding away without hesitation.

Meanwhile, Ray’s mouth remained open as he watched the car drive away.

“What?!” he gasped in shock as if this revelation was just sinking in. “My cousin and Penny… what? They are…? HAH!?”

Ray almost choked on his own breath as his breath hitched. His eyes continued to widen as if his mind was in overdrive. Now that he thought about it, Zoren wanted him to meet his wife.

“Oh—” he gasped again, almost feeling like something was wringing his neck. “Shit!”

Instead of a broken heart, his heart literally dropped to his stomach. Before he knew it, he dramatically fell to his knees, earning strange looks from people coming out of the establishment.

“Hah…” he clasped his heart dramatically. “Wait, which one should make me sad the most? Or should I be scared?”

Was it the fact that Penny was actually married to his cousin? Or the fact that he truly had no chance now? Or should he be scared for his life that he tried to woo his cousin’s wife?

Before he could even decide, he clasped his hair and spread his arms, looking up at the sky. “Noooo!!!”

Zoren couldn’t stop shaking his head, chuckling with his lips close as he thought of Ray. He knew his cousin all too well and was certain Ray was performing a standing ovation act where he left him.

DING!

He raised his brows and tapped his phone.

[Incoming message from Miss Penelope

Wow. Fate really is a strange thing. Would that guy be okay?]

He chuckled, knowing that even though Penny had outright rejected Ray’s advances and never gave him a chance, she wasn’t that heartless. Hence, to reassure her, he replied.

He will cry and probably nag me starting one hour from now. But he will be fine… though, you have to be prepared for him showing up in front of you with her new girlfriend or girlfriends.]

Penny chuckled upon reading Zoren’s response, shaking her head. Even though his reply was so casual, she felt reassured.

“I’m just glad I didn’t have to hide it from that guy,” she whispered, focusing on driving back to work. “He might be annoying and ridiculous, but Ray deserves to pursue someone else.”

It wasn’t like she disliked Ray. To be fair, she didn’t mind being friends with him. However, that was the extent she could offer.

Since Zoren had already hard-launched their relationship to Ray in such a manner, Penny didn’t think much of it anymore. With an eased heart, she reached the indoor parking space of the Prime Group. Penny casually took her things and stepped out, ready to finish her work for the rest of the day. However, just as she closed the driver’s seat, she flinched when she turned and saw someone standing behind her.

“Oh, my God!” she patted her chest, calming down when she recognized the person who had surprised her.
