Chapter 434: Angel’s only hope
“… I’ll have to make you.”
Silence fell over the kitchen as neither spoke for a moment. Penny carefully stretched her fingers toward the cabinets beneath the counter, her palm resting on the edge of the sink. With her back facing Mark, she was careful not to alert him.
‘He’s different from the others I’ve encountered,’ she thought, realizing this man wouldn’t let her go unless he was dead. ‘I’ve met so many like him.’
Penny had bumped against death countless times, and she sensed that same aura from Mark. She knew he would kill her — this fight wouldn’t end with a simple injury.
The feeling was mutual for Mark.
Assessing her small frame, it was hard to believe that someone like her had caused so much damage to his men. Although Renny seemed to side with her for reasons he couldn’t comprehend, Mark had to give her credit — none of the men she fought were ordinary bodyguards or fighters.
‘She’s no ordinary person,’ he thought, holding his breath, ready to strike if he sensed any movement from her. ‘I can’t let my guard down.’
As the thought crossed his mind, every instinct in his body screamed a warning. Mark quickly raised his pistol and fired, only to hear a clang as the bullet struck a knife flying in his direction. Surprised by her swift reaction, his breath caught as he saw her slide under the counter.
BANG! BANG!
Two more shots rang out, aimed to stop her rather than kill her. He wasn’t trying to end her life — yet. But her movements were too quick, forcing Mark to fall back. She kicked a stool toward him, and he had to kick it away.
This brief diversion gave her enough time to move under the table, flipping it to use as a shield.
“Damn it…” he muttered, gritting his teeth as he fired more rounds, creating holes in the table. This time, he didn’t care if she ended up dead. He had seen the chaos she caused in the manor, and he couldn’t risk her reaching Zoren. Especially now that he was fighting her.
Mark could tell she was truly not a simple person.
BANG! BANG! CLACK!
The gun clicked empty. Mark swiftly reloaded, but as he did, he noticed something red dripping from the edge of the table.
‘Did I hit her?’ he wondered, approaching cautiously. Even though it appeared she was down, he wasn’t the type to lower his guard.
Silence quickly followed with only the echoes of the fire bouncing off every corner of the walls. The air also felt thicker than usual, forcing him to listen to his own pounding heart and deep breaths.
A step from the table, he peered over to check. His brow furrowed deeply when he saw the source of the red liquid was from a gallon of ketchup that had spilled.
She wasn’t behind the table. Which meant…
Before Mark could process what was happening, his body reacted instinctively. He spun around, arms raised, just in time to block a punch from her left hand. Unfortunately, no matter how quickly he reacted, he couldn’t stop the elbow that slammed into his jaw.
“Ack!” Mark staggered, shocked by the force of the blow. His jaw throbbed, feeling nearly dislocated from the impact.
Acting on reflex, he pointed his gun at her leg, but Penny was too fast. She delivered a roundhouse kick, knocking the gun from his hand. It clattered across the floor, leaving him defenseless.
Mark’s back slammed into the shelf, making the condiments tumble to the ground. Lifting his head, he caught the murderous glint in her eyes. It was so intense that they almost appeared to glow red.
“Hah,” he sneered, his pride bruised but at the same time, excitement surging in his heart. “It’s been a while since someone forced me into a fistfight.”
Penny smirked. “I don’t usually kill people with my fists… but for you, I’ll make an exception.”
Mark peeled himself away from the shelf, unfazed by the shards scattered on the floor. He clenched his fists, eyes locked on hers.
“Fine,” he muttered. “Let’s fight.”
Penny didn’t respond. She merely assumed her stance, eyes never leaving him. “I hope you don’t mind hurting a woman.”
“Women, men, children, the elderly… as long as they’re my enemy, I don’t care.”
“Very well,” Penny nodded. “The feeling is mutual.”

At this point in her life, Penny believed she only had herself… and her beloved panther. Before prison, she might not have been the most righteous person, but she had obeyed the law, never even breaking the speed limit.
Prison had changed her — or rather, the reason she ended up there had changed her perspective. Was it for the better? Deep down, Penny knew it wasn’t. She often thought she should have been executed because this was the person she never wanted to become.
Someone without regard for morals, uncontrollable, consumed by anger and bitterness. She no longer cared about her own life.
Mark and Penny stared at each other in silence, neither moving as they studied their opponent, waiting for the first sign of attack. Then, in a split second, both moved simultaneously, clashing fiercely, turning the kitchen into a battlefield.
It was a fight for survival.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the mansion, Angel limped through the halls, searching for Penny. All he had encountered so far were unconscious bodies and bullet holes in the walls. He stopped, running his hand over a bullet embedded in the wall, clenching his teeth.
“Those guys…” he muttered, though he wasn’t entirely convinced Zoren’s men were the only ones responsible. After all, Penny was out of control.
“I have to find her…” he trailed off to reconsider. “No, I need to let Mr. Pierson know.”
It seemed Zoren was the only person who could stop his men from attacking Penny, stop Renny from causing havoc, and rein in his uncontrollable wife. Angel knew he couldn’t stop Penny himself without fighting her to the death. His only hope right now was Zoren — and the power of love.
With that thought, Angel limped his way toward the main residence.
