Chapter 441: Let me borrow your surname!
Penny stared at the beautiful man lying so peacefully on the bed. Despite the obvious injuries on his body and his pale—almost dead—complexion, he was indeed a true beauty. She glanced at the door before approaching the bed from the side.
“Wow,” she murmured in awe, waving a hand before his face. “Are you dead?”
Penny blinked and stared at him for a long time, tilting her head to the side.
Was this the moment for the prince to give a true love kiss?
Her lips pursed at the thought, her eyes squinting until they looked like crescent moons. She looked a little perverted. Perhaps this was the kind of expression princes had upon finding a beauty lying there for them to devour.
As Penny’s mind grew wilder by the second, his eyes slowly cracked open. Her brows rose, snapping her out of her perverted thoughts. She slowly lowered her gaze to him, watching his long lashes flutter partially open.
‘Even his eyes look… amazing,’ she thought, enthralled by how long and thick his lashes were. But what drew her attention was how dark his eyes appeared. They didn’t look dark in a sickly way, but rather as if they held the darkness of hell.
“Oh.” All the silly thoughts she initially had disappeared without a trace as she held his gaze. “I know that look.”
The look was one she had seen many times in the mirror: the look of someone who had seen nothing but hell, with no sunshine at all. Yet, those eyes that mirrored hers showed no fear of danger or even death.
The corner of her lips curled up. “Hello there, patient. How are you feeling?”
She got no response.
Zoren blinked weakly, barely conscious. Although his eyes were partially open, his mind was high with drugs and antidotes to counter the poison he had taken. The only reason he opened his eyes was that he sensed an inexplicable presence.
He couldn’t feel danger, but at the same time, he couldn’t pinpoint exactly what he was feeling. He just knew he had to wake up and see who it was.
“Right.” Penny perked up, remembering she was playing the role of a nurse. It wasn’t just a role; she knew a lot about these things.
“Let’s see.” Penny checked his chart again, moving it closer to her face to read each word properly. “Ah.”
She clicked her tongue continuously, pinching the blanket and then lifting it to check his toes. She clicked her tongue again upon seeing that the tips of his toes were turning purple.
“You’re dying,” she said, giving him a somber look. “What a shame.”
Reading his chart and seeing all the medicines in his system was enough for her to determine what had happened to the poor guy. However, the poison in his system was potent and fast-acting. If this wasn’t an accident, then whoever administered the poison wanted him dead.
Penny frowned at the thought, staring at his face as he kept his gaze fixed on her. “Why would someone want to kill such a beauty like you? Were they jealous?” she muttered and sighed, shaking her head and throwing the chart onto the side table.
Penny then went to check the bag of fluid hanging by the side, checking its label to ensure it was fine. Once she was done, she proceeded with a routine check-up, as if she hadn’t noticed that his toes were about to rot away.
“All done, Mr. Pierson,” she flashed him a bright smile. “You won’t die tonight, but tomorrow, for sure. See ya~!”
Penny turned around, and the smile on her face disappeared, replaced by a frown and a deep sigh. Such a beautiful young man. It was a shame he would die so soon.
Shaking her head, she recalled his name. “Pierson…” she whispered, tilting her head to the side. “Penelope Pierson. Well, that doesn’t sound bad compared to Penelope Bennet. Tch. What a family name—”
A look of mockery flashed across her face as she thought of the surname she carried. She didn’t want to bear that name anymore and simply wanted to cut ties with her brothers. The thought of her brothers somehow made her smile as she remembered what she did to Atlas.
‘I bet he’ll be so humiliated he’d rather die than say a word about it,’ she thought, about to leave after a moment of idling. But just as she did, a hand suddenly grabbed hers, stopping her.
“Huh?” Penny raised her brows, looking back at the person holding her. Her gaze fell on Zoren, who was still staring at her with a blank expression. “What?”
He didn’t answer, but his loose hold remained.
“You’re dying,” she repeated with a pout. “Just accept it.”
Zoren blinked ever so slowly, his lips parting. Her brows elevated, waiting for him to say anything to her. But alas, his voice didn’t come out.
“Tsk.” Penny clicked her tongue and faced him, letting his hand stay on hers since his hold was harmless. “Don’t tell me you’re scared of death?”

She waited for his answer, but to no avail. “Blink once if yes, then blink twice if no.”
“Are you scared of death?” she asked again, waiting for him to blink. Zoren blinked once weakly and slowly, like a snail. After a few more seconds, his eyes closed once more.
Meaning, it was a no.
He wasn’t scared of death at all.
“Then why are you holding on to me?” she asked. This time, he didn’t blink and simply stared at her.
Little did she know, Zoren also didn’t know the answer. Even in his barely conscious state, he couldn’t understand his actions. It was just that, deep in his heart, he knew he shouldn’t let her go.
Silence fell between them as they held each other’s gaze without any intention of looking away. After a moment, Penny rested her hand on her hips and looked at him helplessly.
“Fine,” she conceded. “I’ll help you not die, okay?”
Zoren squinted his slightly opened eyes, catching the mischievous smile on her face.
“But!” she raised a finger to the side of her face, grinning. “In two conditions.”
Deep lines appeared between his brows before he heard her say, “Let me borrow your surname and give me a honeymoon that will blow my mind. I’m a virgin, but I don’t want to die one.”
Zoren stared at her, unblinking. He barely understood her words as they sounded distant in his ears. Before he knew it, he felt his eyelids grow heavy. He ended up blinking once before falling unconscious.
