Chapter 503: She’s only an hour away.
Today was not only the first meeting between the two families, but also the day Penny would move in with Zoren. Although she wasn’t carrying much—just a small bag of clothes for a few days—the Bennet family still sent them off together.
“Take care, okay?” Allison stroked Penny’s hair with a smile. This time, she wasn’t crying, knowing her daughter was in good hands. Moreover, Penny had told them she’d be back after a day or two since she hadn’t packed her things properly.
“Mom, you’re not crying this time,” Penny joked, only to hear Charles sniffle.
Everyone turned to look at him, standing beside Allison, wiping his tears.
“Mom, did Dad steal your tears?” Penny quipped quietly, surprised that her father, not her mother, was the one getting emotional.
Allison sighed, still smiling. “Let him be. Your father’s gotten more emotional as he’s aged.”
“It’s not like Penny is going abroad,” Atlas murmured. “She’s only an hour away.”
“Atlas, it’s better to shut up now,” Charles warned through his tears.
Hugo nodded in agreement, casting a glance at his older brother. As for Slater, he jumped over to Old Mrs. Pierson’s side.
“Grandma, can I visit you?” he asked shamelessly. “I’m on a long vacation, and I don’t have anything else to do.”
Old Mrs. Pierson chuckled and nodded. “Of course! My home is always open to all of you!” She then glanced at Butler Hubert.
“Old Madam is right,” Butler Hubert affirmed with a slight bow. “You may come by anytime, Third Master.”
“Sweet!” Slater giggled, his eyes lighting up. Though his intentions were partly to curry favor, he also expected Zoren and Old Mrs. Pierson’s home to be somewhat close. Little did he know, while the Old Residence and Zoren’s place might be close, the hectares of land surrounding each made the travel quite long.
“Let us know when you get there,” Hugo told Penny. “So we won’t worry.”
“Mhm.”
“And don’t give the Old Madam a headache,” Atlas reminded her, and Penny nodded instead of retorting.
“Have a lot of fun, Penny,” Haines chimed in. “And don’t always bury yourself in work.”
Penny opened her mouth to retort but decided against it. “I won’t.”
She patiently listened to the continuous reminders—essentially nagging. But she didn’t mind. Although part of her wanted to complain and remind them that she’d be back the next day, she chose to stay quiet and behave.
The nagging lasted for over five minutes before Zoren helped her and Old Mrs. Pierson into the car. Sitting by the window, Penny waved goodbye. As she watched the distance between them grow, an inexplicable feeling surged in her heart.
‘I know I’ll be back tomorrow, so why do I feel like crying?’ she wondered, as a sense of anxiety crept into her.
“Penny.” Old Mrs. Pierson’s voice brought her back. She gently held Penny’s hand, offering her a warm smile. “If you want to go home, then go home and be with your family. Some find it easy to leave, but I know it’s hard for you. Don’t think of this marriage as something that takes you away from your family, and I certainly don’t want your family to think that either.”
“Thank you, Grandma,” Penny smiled. “I’m sure they won’t think that way.”
“We can visit them tomorrow for breakfast,” Zoren suggested. “We’ll take things slowly.”
Old Mrs. Pierson chuckled. “Tonight, you two will stay with me, but I’m fine with you spending breakfast with your family.”
Penny glanced between the two of them, her smile growing softer. “I thought I’d be used to this, having lived abroad, but I guess this is different.”
“And we understand,” Old Mrs. Pierson reassured her with a nod.
As they moved further away, the reluctance Penny had felt began to fade. She realized that this marriage wasn’t separating her from her family—it was expanding it. Old Mrs. Pierson was right. If anything, their family had just grown bigger.
With that thought in mind, Penny took a deep breath, her soft smile turning into a grin.

“Bye…” Slater murmured as the family waved at Penny. Their waves grew weaker until they stopped entirely.
The family stood outside the house even after the car was out of sight.
“And off they go,” Allison sighed, tears brimming in her eyes. “How I wish we had proposed a proper wedding before she moved in with him.”
“Mom, Penny said she’s moving in to focus on nursing Zoren back to health,” Hugo reminded her, standing by his mother’s side. Atlas was beside them too, offering Allison a handkerchief.
“Thank you,” Allison breathed out, taking the handkerchief to wipe her eyes.
“Mom, it’s okay~! Don’t be too sad, I’m here!” Slater, always clingy, hugged his mother from behind. “Just think of it as her going on a vacation. Besides, Old Madam Pierson is a very nice lady. I like her!”
His two brothers nodded in agreement; they also liked Old Mrs. Pierson.
“Charles, stop crying now,” Haines said, having consoled him since the beginning. “You got a watch, remember?”
“Shut up! That watch is nothing compared to my daughter!” Charles blew his nose into his handkerchief. “Haines, you’re the last person to tell me to stop because you spent twelve years with her! I only got a few years if you count all the time she was with us!”
Haines sighed in defeat, casting a look at Allison and the boys. Both parents were crying, but their sons weren’t. Instead, the boys smiled back at Haines before turning their attention to the gates in the distance.
The parents cried because they were parents. But they smiled because, despite the complications of the larger Pierson family, they felt reassured that Old Mrs. Pierson and Zoren were capable, reliable, and endearing. They truly loved Penny, and that comforted their hearts.
“There are still some snacks that Old Mrs. Pierson left for the family.” Butler Jen suddenly spoke from behind them. The family turned to him, and he smiled. “I’ve prepared them for everyone. They seem delicious. According to Butler Hubert, that’s what they’ll have for dinner once they reach the Old Residence.”
Everyone smiled and nodded, and with that, they headed inside to enjoy the delicacies Penny would also savor tonight.
