Chapter 572: Can I trust you… with everything?
The dinner was unlike any other. Hugo had planned to eat with the bodyguards, but worried about Zoren, he joined the couple for dinner. How he wished he hadn’t, because now he was trapped in this silence.
“I’m done,” Penny announced as she wiped the corners of her mouth. “I’ll go up first.”
Zoren glanced at her, watching her leave before he could say anything. His lips curved downward as he turned to Hugo. The moment their eyes met, Hugo’s face twitched. At that moment, Zoren looked like a helpless puppy, eyes pleading for help.
“Haha…” Hugo reached out to Zoren and patted his shoulder. “It’s gonna be okay, brother.”
“She never leaves me alone, even after her meal.”
Hugo forced a smile, though it only revealed the complicated feelings in his heart. “My mom is like that with my dad too, but hey, they’re still together.”
“…” Another deep sigh escaped Zoren as he leaned his arms against the edge of the table.
“Anyway, why is she so angry, though?” Hugo asked, genuinely curious. “I mean, I’ve never seen her angry.”
Zoren snapped his eyes up at him. “Are you sure about that?”
“…” Hugo juggled his memory. “I’m kidding. I’ve seen her angry once.” — when she was drunk.
“What is she like?”
“Hell.” Hugo shrugged and leaned against the table. “That was when she was drunk. I tested it, you know? Got hell in return.”
Zoren and Hugo stared at each other before Zoren replied, “I know you did.”
“Huh?”
“That night, she was hospitalized. You didn’t come the next day, and the ward smelled like alcohol. I’ve spent more time in the hospital than at this house.”
“Ahh…” Hugo rocked his head, mouth parted in realization. “So there’s no need for me to be discreet about that, huh?”
“You don’t have to,” Zoren sighed deeply. “I also know you already told her about her drunken antics.”
“You did?”
“She always says that her second brother is her partner in crime. If she hadn’t said a word about that night you were wrestling with someone, I’m sure you’d be worried enough to tell her about it.”
“Ah. Oh, wow.” Hugo scrunched his nose in dismay. “So I was being secretive for nothing, huh?”
“You were,” Zoren confirmed, rocking his head. “But that’s not the point. This is the first time Penny’s gotten angry with me.”
Zoren clasped his hands in front of him, his elbows resting on the table. “I need a plan.”
“You definitely need one, but you still haven’t answered me. Why do you think she’s so angry?”
“Well… I’m not entirely sure,” Zoren explained. “The night she came here drunk, she tried to kill the person in the pit. I was able to distract her, but… I’m a little unsure what’s going on. After all, she wasn’t supposed to know him or remember him, since she didn’t recall anything when she was drunk.”
“Well, that makes sense.” Hugo nodded. “Though she remembers me.”
Zoren snapped his eyes back to Hugo, blinking. “Right.”
“That’s strange, though…” Hugo rubbed his chin while Zoren fell into deep thought. “Does that mean she remembers people she knew when she wasn’t drunk but not the people she met while drunk?”
“That’s a possibility.”
“Well, just ask her.” Hugo shrugged. “Though why does she want to kill him? And why did you keep that guy around without telling her?”
“Do you want the honest answer?”

“Of course.”
“I forgot about him.”
“…”
Zoren let out another deep sigh. “I got too busy lately, and I’ve been a little too happy with her around here. So, I forgot he even existed.”
“Goodness.” Hugo clicked his tongue while shaking his head. “So, that guy’s not a guest, but a captive?”
“The doors aren’t locked. He can always leave.”
“Are you sure about that?”
“I’m staying away from committing any crimes.”
“Good! Otherwise, I’d be the first to arrest you.”
Zoren glanced at his second brother, who wasn’t being very helpful. Since the two of them weren’t getting any answers from their conversation, Zoren pushed himself away from the table.
“Where are you going?” Hugo looked up at him. “Ready to face her wrath now?”
“I’d rather have her vent her anger than let this simmer. I don’t want to upset her more,” Zoren replied. “Please, enjoy your meal and the rest of the night. I’ll call for help if I need it.”
Hugo nodded and waved dismissively. “I’m sure plenty of people will be staying up to make sure you see the sun tomorrow.”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t forget the pudding.”
“Already ordered. It’ll arrive soon.”
With that, Zoren sauntered away from the dining room and headed to the master bedroom where Penny would be. Meanwhile, Hugo shook his head and took another bite of his food.
“The more I see married people, the more I don’t want to get married,” he muttered to himself. “Penny’s like Mom when she’s angry. Should I call Dad for advice? I’m pretty sure Zoren could use some.”

Zoren stood in front of their bedroom door and knocked quietly. When he didn’t hear anything, he reached for the knob and carefully opened it. Zoren was never careful around the house, but right now, he was almost tiptoeing as he stepped in.
“Penny?” he called, squinting as he searched the room. He didn’t need to look far because he saw her figure almost immediately.
Deep lines appeared between his brows as he noticed Penny standing by the table near the window, quietly pouring wine into an empty glass.
“Penny?” Zoren called again, stopping several steps away from her. “Should we talk now?”
Penny didn’t respond and kept pouring the wine until the glass was full. She quietly closed the bottle and placed it beside the glass. Then, she turned on her heel and faced her husband squarely.
For a moment, they stood in thick silence, neither speaking as they stared at each other. After a while, her lips parted, and the words that came out of her mouth made him furrowed his brows.
“Renren,” she said softly. “Can I trust you… with everything?”
