Chapter 577: Nonsense death
“That’s enough digging. Time to bury the hatchet. Go, lie down.”
For some reason, Zoren, Angel, and Mark weren’t surprised to hear that. However, the diligent Nathaniel seemed to still be shocked, even when he already knew this pit was for him.
Nathaniel gasped, hugging the shovel and then going down on his knees. He kept his head up to look at the emotionless expression in her eyes.
“Madam—young madam! Miss Penelope! Please don’t do this to me!” he begged. “I haven’t done anything to you! Even if I did, I didn’t mean it! I’m sorry, okay?! Please! Can we talk about this?”
“You… haven’t done anything to me?” she repeated under her breath, almost laughing at his pleas. “You didn’t… mean it?”
Sorry? Was it that simple for him to say that after everything she had gone through?
Penny let out another wave of chuckles, staring at the man begging for his life.
“What a ridiculous sight,” she murmured. “What a ridiculous and confusing night.”
The only thing that wasn’t confusing at all was the anger swelling in her heart as she looked at this man. Penny kicked some of the dirt near her into the pit.
“Miss—urgh!” Nathaniel stuck his tongue out as some dirt went into his mouth. He wiped it with his dirty shirt, but the ground kept falling on him.
“Ugh! Wait—wait!” He irritably yapped, flinging his arms around. “Wait—argh! Are you out of your mind?!”
Penny stopped kicking the mountain of earth on her side, only to resume again without a word.
“Argh! Wait!” Nathaniel kept flinging his arms, yelling as more dirt got into them. “Stop—please! I was wrong—whatever I did! Please! Wait!”
As Penny kept kicking the ground and Nathaniel continued screaming, Zoren kept his eyes on his wife. Mark and Angel, on the other hand, looked at each other before simultaneously setting their eyes on her figure.
“Is she really… going to bury him?” Mark inquired quietly, while Angel shrugged. The latter studied the mood Penny was giving off, but because of the lack of light, all he could see was the shadow cast upon her face.
“I’m not sure,” Angel whispered back, his eyes swirling with worry. “But what I’m sure of is that… I’ve never seen her so… hurt.”
Mark slowly peeled his eyes from Penny to Angel, only to see the worry creeping onto Angel’s face. Mark didn’t understand it because, in his eyes, Penny just appeared crazy. But then again, Mark never served Penny and barely spent time with her.
He didn’t know her, unlike how Angel knew her.
“Boss—” Angel took a step after a while to stop her, but halted when Zoren approached her.
Zoren clasped her arms, making her stop and look up at him. His lips parted, but no words came out.
What would he tell her?
Stopping her was the right thing to do. However, a part of him felt like it wasn’t fair. Hence, he wondered to himself: what exactly wasn’t fair?
“Miss Penny!” Nathaniel’s yelling once again caressed their ears. “Just what did I do?! Please! Mercy! Stop now! I’ve already reflected, and I will be a good person from now on!”
“Stay out of it,” was all Penny said to Zoren, pulling her arm from him and then continuing. She kicked more earth into the pit, earning another wave of annoying pleading from the man below. However, she didn’t stop, nor did she want to.
After all, she had also pleaded, hadn’t she?
Not just to her family, but she pleaded with everyone. She begged and begged, cried her heart out, but no one listened. No one believed her. If Penny, who was wrongfully accused, had to endure such pain—why would she feel sorry for someone who actually did something so horrible?
Forgiveness?
That was something she had long forgotten. She would never forgive—never. Even if she were reborn, she would never do that. Penny knew herself more than anyone. Therefore, if she were given the chance to live again, she would never want her family’s love and affection, nor would she want to forgive anyone.
Hurt people hurt people, and she would live by that.
After all, after everything that had happened, after everything she had endured, she knew there was nothing this world could offer that could appease her. Nothing. Why live in hope when it was hopeless to begin with? That was just asking for another senseless beating from what people called life.

“Miss Penny!” Nathaniel’s breathing hitched when he saw Penny leave, only for her to come back with a shovel. “Oh, no—no, please!!”
Nathaniel hunched to the side, avoiding the dirt falling on him. Even with his hands raised to protect himself, he could barely do so. Hence, he turned to Zoren, who was just standing on the side, watching Penny do all of this.
“Boss! I mean, Master! Mr. Pierson! Please! Tell her to stop!” Nathaniel pleaded in between his yells. “I didn’t do anything to harm her! Please! Make her stop! Don’t let her become a murderer! Why are you just standing there? She’s legit gonna bury a person alive! This is nonsense—this death is nonsense! Help me!”
As Nathaniel pleaded, his breath caught in his throat when the dirt falling on him stopped. His eyes shook, veering in Penny’s direction. He gulped, watching her figure stop.
“Oh, no… what now?” Nathaniel took a step back in panic, sensing he had just said something that triggered her even more. And he was right. In a snap of a finger, Penny suddenly tossed the shovel aside and walked closer to the pit.
“Kyah!!!”
“Penny!”
“Boss!”
Zoren and Angel called in a hurry, but just as they took a step, Penny slid down into the pit. Snapping out of their shock, they hurried to the edge. As soon as they did, they heard Nathaniel squeal before Penny’s shout.
Grabbing Nathaniel’s collar as she pounced on him, Penny ground her teeth and shouted, “How about my death?! Didn’t you think it was a nonsensical sentence?! Did it make sense to you?!”
