Chapter 593: A letter from Penny
Having a headache before waking up was something Penny was all too familiar with after a night of drinking. Slowly, she opened her eyes and squinted at the warm glow of the morning sun hitting her face.
“Hmm…?” Penny moaned, pushing herself up despite the heaviness of her body.
For a moment, she was confused as she scratched her head. It took her a moment to remember everything that had transpired the night before. Slowly, her eyes widened, and her mouth fell open. She instantly looked to the side of her bed, only to find it empty.
“Renren?” she called in a panic, tossing the blanket off and flinging her legs out of the bed. “Renren?!”
Penny quickly put on her indoor slippers and went straight to the bathroom. She hadn’t checked the time, but normally, in the morning, Zoren was already showering or had finished.
He wasn’t there.
So Penny went to the walk-in closet to check. Still, Zoren wasn’t there. There were still places she could look for him. After all, if Zoren wasn’t in the bedroom, he was surely in the kitchen, preparing her breakfast.
Even with his eye problems, that guy was diligent.
But just as Penny was about to leave the bedroom, she halted upon spotting a tray of breakfast on the coffee table. Pausing, she turned her head and furrowed her brows.
“Huh?” Penny approached the table and glanced at the food on the tray, smiling in relief as she recognized it was prepared by him. That heart-shaped egg was a giveaway. Noticing the letter on the side of the tray, she picked it up to read.
[Last night, you told me you needed a heart-to-heart talk with yourself. So, I left early with everyone. Don’t forget to eat. There are also medicines if you don’t feel well.]
Penny furrowed her brows, glancing at the medicines on the side, which she had noticed earlier but didn’t pay attention to. The sides of her lips curved up as she chuckled, raising an eyebrow at the letter he left.
“For a second, I thought I scared him,” she mumbled to herself, sitting down to eat the breakfast prepared by the best husband in the world.
As Penny was eating, she noticed another letter on the couch. It was placed underneath the cushion as if someone had forgotten about it.
“What’s this? Another letter from Renren?” she wondered, reaching out to check what it was. Assuming it was from Zoren, she didn’t think much of it. It could be something her husband left just to see if she would notice it, or perhaps a copy of the letter he placed on the tray.
The letter could be anything, but much to her dismay, all her guesses were wrong. The second she saw the handwriting, she instantly recognized it wasn’t Zoren’s letter, but her own.
[Hey, me, it’s me.
Let’s get one thing straight first: you’re the mistress.]
“Huh?” Penny scrunched up her nose and stopped reading altogether. “What the hell did I just write? Is this from last night?”
For a second, she was mind-boggled. Goosebumps spread all over her body. It was strange to receive a letter from herself without even knowing about it. This was exactly how the drunken Penny felt when she read a letter from her sober self.
“Goodness. I know this is a letter from myself, but I’m a bit scared,” she mumbled, shaking her head. “Never mind. Let’s see what I have to tell myself.”
Curious, Penny continued reading.
[Hey, me, it’s me.
Let’s get one thing straight first: you’re the mistress. I’m the wife. Technically, because I got us married, you fool. So, I’m not calling you his wife next time. You’re the other woman; you get it?]
Penny’s face froze as she glanced up, hearing her own voice reading the opening of this letter. Surely, she used to be like this. She had almost forgotten about this part of her past.
“But what she’s saying makes a lot of sense,” she winced, getting a bit annoyed with herself. “She did get us married, and I’m the one reaping the benefits.”
[Now, since that’s settled, let’s talk about all of this.
You were right; this is all confusing and ridiculous. Rebirth? Living this life for the second time? Are you a masochist? Damn. I know I fight a lot and get hurt a lot, but that’s because I do not want to get hurt. Do you get my point?
Well… you’re me, so I guess you get it—unless I’ve gotten dumb. That sucks. I would’ve rather died than know I’ve downgraded.]
“Why is she hurting my feelings?” Penny scoffed in disbelief, almost forgetting this was her own letter to herself. “It’s strange, but I did get confident while serving my time.”

[Anyway, I kind of got a grasp of the situation (thanks to MY husband). However, I still need a lot more details. I don’t completely believe it. Matter of fact, I think I’m crazy! I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these days, my meds started working and I woke up from all of this.
If you were me, you’d understand what I’m saying. I’m sure you didn’t believe it either when you woke up as an infant. I’m just glad I started coming out now because I would’ve done many things while no one would suspect a one-year-old burying somebody, right?]
“Right.” Penny briefly raised her brows, leaning back as she absorbed this letter quietly. “I’m really… like this. Now that I think about it, I used to talk like this—Grace and I.”
She rocked her head, feeling a strange sense of nostalgia while reading the letter. To be fair, Penny only remembered herself fighting fiercely with everyone who stood in her way. Therefore, hearing how she used to talk—something she learned while serving her time—brought back a lot of memories.
“Grace and I really changed,” she told herself, snapping her eyes back to the letter. Penny then pushed herself up and approached the bedside drawer, where she kept a small notebook. She picked up the notebook and a pen, walking back to the couch.
On her way, she didn’t forget to pick up the bottle of wine and placed everything down on the coffee table. With that, Penny ate while jotting down her thoughts.
