Chapter 617: I didn’t mean it
“Nina, watch out!”
Everyone was surprised when they heard Penny yell. Before they could even react, Penny pulled Nina, spinning her around and hugging her to protect her.
CLANG!
For a second, everyone was stunned and confused about what had just happened. All they heard was Penny’s yell, quickly followed by something shattering. It took everyone a moment to realize what had happened when they heard a dripping sound afterward.
Slowly, everyone shifted their eyes to Penny. Those in front of her just looked at her, still hugging Nina. But those who were standing in a spot where they could see her back were staring at the back of her head, the shards clinging to her hair, and the liquid dripping from the tip of her hair to the floor.
At first, everyone could only see beer dripping onto the floor; then, slowly, the drips added a red hue.
“Penny?” Lily called in panic, and Grace quickly moved to Penny’s side, holding her to assist her.
Nina, who was being hugged by Penny, slowly straightened her back and looked over her shoulder. The moment she saw Penny’s paling complexion, her heart dropped to her stomach.
“Penny!” Nina cried, turning around to hold Penny’s arm. Tears immediately coated her eyes as her heart raced at a ridiculous rate. “Penny… why did you…?”
The rest of Nina’s words almost choked her as her eyes caught sight of the blood on the floor. All she heard next was Penny saying, “Ahh… the loser got me.”
Penny closed one eye, grabbing anything she could as she felt her body swaying. Having been struck in the head with a bottle of beer was painful, and the guy had thrown it. The pain doubled. However, seeing that Nina was fine and could even cry before anything else made her heave a sigh of relief.
“Take me to the hospital,” Penny whispered. “I’m going to fall…”
The second those words flew out of her mouth, Penny’s eyes slowly shut as her consciousness slipped away like running water. Grace, Lily, and Nina, who were holding her, squealed in panic, trying to catch Penny from falling.
However, even with the three of them holding her, all they could do was make sure Penny wouldn’t hit the floor violently. They slowly lowered her until she was lying on her side.
“Penny!” Lily yelled. “Ambulance! Call for an ambulance!”
“AMBULANCE!!” This time, Grace let go of her calm demeanor as she roared at the top of her lungs. “Call for an ambulance and don’t let that bastard get away!”
Her eyes glinted angrily as she glared in Aiden’s direction. If not for Penny losing consciousness, Grace would’ve gone after him herself. However, someone needed to use their brain here, as Lily, Nina, and Ginnie were simply panicking.
Some people in the crowd didn’t bother calling for an ambulance and curiously stared at Penny on the floor. Unlike the bulky men on the ground earlier, this time, there was blood. Others, like the staff, panicked and called the nearest emergency hotline.
As for Aiden, the second he saw blood trickling from the back of Penny’s head, he snapped out of his daze. He took a step back, surprised at his own actions.
“I didn’t mean to do that…” he murmured, taking steps back, shaking his head in disbelief. “I didn’t… want to harm her… I just wanted to… scare her…”
The more Aiden stepped back, the more he noticed people looking in his direction. With another step back, some of the men in the crowd finally found the courage to step in. Seeing that these people might harm him and gang up on him, Aiden panicked.
Just like Aiden said, he might be greedy and selfish. However, he was neither stubborn nor stupid. For someone who was backed into a corner and knew that things would be over for him if they got their hands on him, he couldn’t let that happen.
As a last attempt to save himself, Aiden looked around and swiftly reached for another glass on the table. The people near the table squealed and fled when he smashed the bottle against the table, raising it toward everyone.
“Don’t come near me!” he threatened, moving it around and making the people approaching him step back. “You’re not going to touch me! If you do, don’t blame me for hurting you! I’m not joking! Step back!”
Aiden held the broken bottle around, ensuring no one would try to sneak attack him from behind. He needed to go. There was still time. If he left now and flew out of the country, he could still save himself. His company in Anteca might be seized tomorrow, but if he left now, he wouldn’t end up in prison.
“Stay away!” he shouted, seeing that everyone was taking several steps back. After taking many more steps back, he finally caught sight of Lily’s group again. He glanced at them once more, noticing that some staff were rushing to help Penny.
‘It’s her fault! If she hadn’t said all those things—if she hadn’t mocked me—this wouldn’t have happened to her!’ he told himself, looking away from the group and focusing on his escape plan.
All he had to do was concentrate on how to leave this place for now. Once he stepped out of there, his chances of escaping whatever awaited him would be high. But just as Aiden was taking slow steps away, still holding the broken end of the bottle at everyone, he caught a glimpse of someone from the corner of his eye.
Shocked, he slowly turned his head back to Lily’s group. Deep lines appeared between his brows as he saw Penny sit up suddenly, as if nothing had happened.
“What the…?” he paused, eyes on Penny. “She woke up?”

He thought he had killed her, but it seemed the hit wasn’t as fatal as expected. After all, Penny was casually touching the back of her head and checking the blood on her palm.
“Hehe. This is nothing.” Penny smirked, and instead of looking back at the person who hit her, she cocked her head back until her body was almost bending backward. Her eyes then fell on Aiden, looking at his face from upside down.
The smile on her face stretched even more, her eyes squinting. Unlike earlier, when she showed professional restraint and discipline, the smile on her face was wicked.
“So…” Penny spoke, keeping her awkward pose. “You’re the guy… who woke me up again, huh?”
