Chapter 619: uproot
“Hey! Stop right there!” Aiden howled, his eyes shaking as he watched Penny march in his direction without flinching. “I said stop right there!”
He threw the bottle at her as she got closer. Much to his dismay, Penny simply tilted her head and dodged it.
“Shit!” Aiden panicked even more, turning his head to find anything he could use to protect himself. When his eyes landed on the other table full of drinks, glasses, and even plates, he rushed to it. “I said stop!”
Just as he reached the table and picked up whatever he could, he was about to toss it in her direction to stop her. However, he halted when he saw that Penny had stopped. Slowly, their eyes fell on the hand grabbing her ankle.
It was one of the guys she had taken down earlier.
“What’s wrong with you?” Penny arched a brow, lifting her foot, but the man’s grip didn’t budge.
“Ugh…” the man grunted, placing his other hand on the floor to push himself up. He barely lifted his body when he pulled her ankle down.
“Penny!” Nina gasped, covering her mouth as she watched Penny slide onto the floor.
Penny hit her head against the floor again, wincing as she felt her ears ring with a flat line. However, she didn’t dwell on it when she saw that the man who had pulled her down was getting up on his knees.
“Tch,” she hissed, shaking off the striking pain in her head. Penny swiftly rolled on the ground, kicking the man in the knees as soon as he raised his foot with his other knee still on the floor.
“Ack!” the man yelped at the crushing pain in his knees, making him fall back down. But before he could fully react, he felt her foot sandwiching his head.
For a second, the man’s heart thudded nervously as he sensed the omen in the seconds to come. His eyes went wide, only to see Penny smirking like the devil.
“You—” The rest of his words vanished as she moved her feet, keeping his head trapped between them and smashing it against the small pillar nearby.
This time, the crowd had no time to cheer her on, nor did they want to. They just watched everything unfold with wide eyes, unsure if they were witnessing this correctly. After all, everything was happening so fast that if one didn’t pay attention, they would miss everything completely.
“Ack!” The life in the man’s eyes briefly dimmed as he felt his brain bounce around his skull. However, despite hitting his head against the concrete, he didn’t completely lose consciousness.
The man fell, his hand landing on the floor as a reflex of the fall. His eyes remained unfocused as he felt groggy from the vicious attack. Earlier, while fighting Penny, they hadn’t sensed this bloodlust. They had sensed murderous intent and fierceness, but right now, all they could feel was bloodlust, as if she sought something more than just a simple beating.
And he was right.
Another second passed. The man hadn’t even completely grasped the situation when he sensed her standing behind him. He tensed up, feeling her small hands clasp his hair and pull it back, while her other hand crawled from the side of his head to his jaw.
‘She will not… kill me, will she?’ he wondered to himself as her stance suggested she was planning to snap his neck in one swift move.
“Say your prayers,” Penny mumbled quietly, ready to snap his neck to ensure he wouldn’t stand in her way again. After all, it seemed the sober Penny had already dealt with them.
Had Penny forgotten how stubborn and persistent some trash could be?
Prison had been full of it, and she should’ve applied the lessons she had learned there in this situation. Letting someone go might just create a problem in the future. It was better to nip the bud before it could bloom.
“A peaceful life is what she wanted — very well,” she mused, about to snap the man’s neck when she stopped. Slowly, Penny looked up and around her surroundings.
Everyone was watching her as if they were seeing a horror film. With so many witnesses, she couldn’t boldly snap someone’s neck for show, could she? Penny’s face twitched, relieved that she noticed their gaze before proceeding with her devilish plan.
“Hehe.” She let out an awkward laugh, trying to salvage the image she had created in just a few minutes. “Just kidding! I’m not planning to snap his neck — I don’t kill people, you know? I was just… scaring him.”
But they all saw how decisive she had looked before realizing she had an audience!
“Well.” Penny cleared her throat, raising a hand and then launching a chopping move at his nape, knocking him out in an instant.
She then let go of the man, allowing him to drop face-first onto the floor. His body landed with a violent thud, followed by pin-drop silence. This wasn’t the first time everyone in the club had seen a fight. In fact, they had witnessed many because nightclubs were prone to fights; once everyone was intoxicated, people tended to make a big deal out of small things.
But this fight wasn’t the kind to enjoy.
It scared them. It felt like it had turned dangerous — deadly, even. As if they could be easily turned into witnesses of a crime.

“Heh.” Penny let out a shallow breath, snapping her eyes in Aiden’s direction. The man was frozen in place, holding another bottle without making the slightest movement.
As Penny took a step forward, she noticed some of the hired bodyguards getting up again. Those who had already passed out remained on the floor, but those whom Penny had initially shown mercy to rose with their eyes blazing.
“See, Penny?” she hissed, running her tongue across her inner cheek. “Showing mercy sometimes just makes the seed grow and bloom. Some cases… you got to uproot them.”
Penny took a deep breath, combing her hair back without aggravating the injury on the back of her head. When she faced the men, who seemed eager for another beating, a glint flickered in her eyes.
“Very well,” she told herself. “I guess this is much better than bottling up all the emotions she had for the day.”
With that, Penny watched the men march toward her, welcoming them with a warm greeting from her fist.
