Chapter 620: Where are they?
Meanwhile…
“We shouldn’t do this,” said Zoren, turning to the driver’s seat where his brother-in-law was seated. “I don’t think Penny will appreciate it when her husband suddenly shows up when tonight is supposed to be a night with her friends.”
Moreover, he didn’t want to interrupt drunk Penny from experiencing the friendships she had formed in this lifetime. This was her time, and he didn’t want to take that away from her. However, Hugo couldn’t understand Zoren’s hesitation because he was oblivious to his sister’s current dilemma.
Looking at the front passenger seat where Zoren was, Hugo snorted. “If you don’t want to get in, then I’ll go in. I’ll just make sure that she’s okay.”
“She’s okay,” Zoren asserted. “I told you. I had my men follow her in the shadows.”
“Where are they?”
“Probably around the corner,” he said, not bothering to look around, as that would be a waste of time. He wouldn’t see them, anyway. But Hugo was curious.
Holding the steering wheel with both hands, Hugo ducked and scanned the surroundings. “Uh… I don’t see any of them?”
“They’re hiding.”
“Nope.”
Zoren arched a brow. “Then they’re probably blending in with the crowd. Inside.”
“Fair enough.” Hugo nodded, as that made a lot more sense. “But it wouldn’t hurt to check on her, right?”
This time, Zoren didn’t answer. He didn’t have to because Hugo was making a little bit of sense. Even so, if Penny caught them, she might feel upset. She had already told him about not being happy with his bodyguards following her all the time. They simply hadn’t argued about it because Penny understood Zoren’s concern.
“Fine, fine!” Hugo raised his hands in surrender. “You win. Let’s go home. If your men are already watching over her, then there’s no need to worry.”
Zoren nodded and then snapped his eyes toward the establishment. He squinted a little as he heard Hugo start the engine again. However, just before Hugo could drive away, they saw some people running out of the establishment.
“I think… we should check on her,” Zoren blurted out, stopping Hugo and making him look at him.
“Are you on your period?” Hugo blurted out. “Why are you changing your mind every other minute?”
Earlier on the training ground, Zoren didn’t want to come with him to follow Penny. In the end, he changed his mind and rode with Hugo instead of going with the escort car that followed them. Now Zoren was doing the same thing.
“Zoren, dear brother-in-law, you do understand you have a way of convincing people,” Hugo added matter-of-factly. “I’m losing my mind if you don’t decide.”
Ignoring Hugo’s remarks, Zoren kept his eyes on the establishment. He didn’t understand the feeling in his heart. After all, his decision not to disturb Penny and not to be the nosy husband was as firm as a rock. However, after seeing some people come out of the establishment, a sudden gut feeling crawled its way from the pit of his stomach to his heart.
The feeling was disconcerting, and whenever his gut was telling him something, he had learned to listen to it.
“Let’s check on her,” Zoren decided as he took off his seatbelt and quickly reached for the door handle. “I’ll just kiss her until she forgives me.”
Hugo’s face contorted as he watched Zoren step out. “Bro, Penny will always be my little sister. I’m not comfortable hearing the slightest detail of your intimacy.”
Regardless of Hugo’s brief dismay, he unbuckled his seatbelt and stepped out as well. The moment he did, he turned his head and saw some of Zoren’s bodyguards—the people Penny had sent him—were already outside the escort car.
‘I’m starting to get used to them,’ he thought. ‘I almost forgot that they’ve been following us since the beginning.’
Not dwelling on the bodyguards around, Hugo cast a look at Zoren. “Let’s go?”
“Mhm.”
With that, Zoren and Hugo made their way to the entrance. They didn’t plan to stop for anyone until the bouncer outside blocked their path.
Standing in front of them, the bouncer held his hand up but didn’t touch their chests. “I’m sorry, but we’re not letting any more guests in tonight.”
“We’re not guests,” Hugo replied. “My sister is inside, and we’re here to pick her up.”

“Then you will have to wait here,” the bouncer said firmly, following the orders he had received moments ago. There had been a fight inside the club, and they had to make sure it was smoothed out before letting in more guests for the night.
The bouncer had no idea that it wasn’t just a simple fight happening inside. It was a slaughter.
“Please tell me the name of your sister,” he suggested, standing in front of Zoren and Hugo. “I’ll make a call so our staff can assist your sister out of the establishment. Also, I need identification to confirm your relationship.”
Hugo’s mouth parted, but then Zoren placed a hand on his shoulder. Looking back at Zoren, Hugo saw his brother-in-law holding a phone to his ear.
“Here,” said Zoren, handing the phone over to the bouncer. “For you.”
The bouncer furrowed his brows, assessing both men, who seemed to have come from a good family. Well, this nightclub was a place elites frequented. So, the bouncer accepted the phone despite his confusion.
Five seconds after the bouncer placed the phone to his ear, his face displayed various expressions before he glanced at Hugo and Zoren again.
“Yes, sir,” said the bouncer, offering the phone back to Zoren. Once Zoren held the phone, the bouncer let out a deep sigh and stepped aside. “Sir, just a warning. There’s currently a fight inside, and our staff is trying to smooth it out. That’s why we’re not letting more guests in tonight until it’s resolved. So, please be careful. It’s for your own safety.”
A fight in a nightclub wasn’t surprising, but for some reason, Hugo and Zoren felt a sense of dread and panic upon hearing it. Something told them that this fight… might have something to do with drunk Penny.
They hoped—from the very bottom of their sincere hearts—that they were wrong and misjudged the situation. But when they entered, and a bottle flew at them, almost hitting Zoren if not for Hugo catching it thanks to his fast reflexes, they knew this wasn’t just a fight they could ignore.
Putting down Hugo’s hand from in front of Zoren’s face, they moved their gaze to the center. Their eyes instantly caught sight of Penny carrying a bulky man over her shoulder, hunching in and throwing him to the table. It split in half.
“Ren…” Hugo trailed off, eyes on Penny as he leaned to the side. “Where the hell are your people?”
Zoren’s expression blanked, his eyes fixed on that familiar figure. “I don’t know, but I know where they’re going tonight.” — straight to hell.
