Chapter 622: Death sentence
“Kyahh!!!!”
The woman’s scream in the crowd echoed across every corner of the nightclub. Even after her scream, her voice continued to resonate as pin-drop silence followed. However, the silence didn’t last long because the next moment, everyone saw someone stepping in, followed by the loud noise of a body hitting the table.
For a second, everyone was stunned—flabbergasted.
Their wide eyes shook a little as they stared at Penny, who was still standing in the same spot. Their dilated pupils then moved to the two tall men standing near her, one of whom was bleeding from his hand. After a moment, they all shifted their gaze to the table where the loud noise had come from.
There, buried underneath the tipped table and some bottles and glasses, was Aiden.
“…” Everyone was once again stunned and silent, processing what had happened in the split second they blinked.
All they knew was that Aiden had managed to grab a shard and tried to stab Penny with it. And then, Aiden went flying across the area. Again, the crowd shifted their gaze at the two men standing near Penny.
“Huh?” Penny blinked repeatedly, confused. “What in the world…?”
Slowly, she lifted her gaze, and it quickly fell on Aiden, who was buried among the table and chairs. Her face contorted as she tilted her head to the side.
“Did I get superpowers in this lifetime as well?” she wondered to herself, recalling the shiny glint from the bottom of Aiden’s fist as he had tried to stab her. That guy had been so flimsy with it that even though Penny saw it late, she knew she could have dodged it or at least reduced the damage.
But the guy went flying!
“Penny!” Suddenly, Hugo’s voice snapped her out of her thoughts. When Penny looked up, Hugo was already standing in front of her.
“Shit,” he breathed out, holding her shoulders. His irises dilated while his pupils constricted, his entire body shaking as the veins across his jaw protruded from gritting his teeth.
He didn’t need to ask whether Penny was alright. Her lips were cracked, the lower side of her jaw was slightly swollen, and there was also blood on her neck. Although the blood seemed to have just smeared on her neck, it was unforgivable.
Hugo breathed out once more, pulling her into his embrace. Even though his entire body was shaking and his blood was boiling, he wanted to console her first, just to make sure she knew she was safe now. To his surprise, just as he hugged her, Penny spoke.
“Not the back of my head,” she said, as his hand hovered inches from the back of her head. “It stings.”
“Huh?” Hugo furrowed his brows and gently touched the back of her head. The moment he felt the sticky liquid, he moved his eyes away and saw blood on his palm.
That. Bastard.
Slowly, Hugo released her, his eyes unblinking. He gazed at Penny with a blank expression, pulling her behind him protectively. Everyone who witnessed how he pulled Penny behind him as if to shield her had their faces twitching.
Why was he acting as if she needed shielding and protection? Didn’t they know that before they arrived, Penny had not only beaten all the goons to a pulp but had also humiliated them, stomping on their souls and egos?
But when their eyes moved to Penny, their faces contorted even more. Penny pressed her lips into a thin line with the corners slightly hooked up, batting her eyes beautifully as if she were an innocent sheep who needed saving.
Pretentious!
“Stay back, Penny,” Hugo blurted out, his eyes falling on Aiden. “I’m going to crush someone first.”
Penny nodded in understanding, linking the ends of her thumb and index finger together with the rest of her fingers extended. “Okay!”
“This damn bastard…” Just as Hugo took a step, he stopped when Zoren moved in. “Huh?”
Shifting his gaze from Aiden to Zoren, deep lines appeared between Hugo’s brows. “What are you doing?”
“Second Brother, can I ask one thing?” Zoren asked, his dark eyes growing darker. Blood trickled down his fingertips as he was the one who had grabbed the broken piece from Aiden before Hugo sent the guy flying with one kick.
“How many scratches did she have?” Zoren added out of pure curiosity, moving his dark eyes to Penny.
He saw Penny lower her head behind Hugo, only to raise a finger behind her second brother’s shoulder. “Just one…” she meekly replied, but Hugo ignored her.
“A scratch?” Hugo sneered, his eyes glinting as he hissed at Aiden. “It would’ve been nice if she got ten scratches, but the back of her head is bleeding. Her cheek is swollen as if she was punched, and her mouth is cracked.”

Knowing Zoren couldn’t see well, Hugo opened his palm to show his brother-in-law the color tainting his hand just after touching her head. “That is what happens when you touch the back of her head mildly.”
“Take her to the hospital,” Zoren remarked. “You can’t fight a civilian, as it would reflect badly on someone in your position. People might accuse you of abusing your power.”
As soon as those words rolled out of Zoren’s mouth, he turned on his heel and marched in Aiden’s direction. “I, on the other hand, can abuse mine as much as I want to. My reputation is the same whether I do it or not.”
“Ugh…” Aiden grunted as he propped himself up with his elbow on the floor. “Ouch. My side… it hurts…”
Aiden trailed off as he saw someone approaching him. Looking up, all he saw was a pair of dark eyes as a shadow was cast over Zoren’s face. Unlike the devilish look Penny wore while approaching him, this guy’s eyes were bloodshot, making him appear like the bringer of death himself.
Without thinking, Aiden knew he had to defend himself. With another broken bottle within reach, he grabbed it and flung it toward Zoren. But alas, just as he raised the broken end of the bottle at Zoren, the latter fearlessly grabbed it, pushing it down hard against the side of Aiden’s head.
The bottle shattered between Zoren’s palm and Aiden’s head, their blood mixing as it spilled. Using his free hand, Zoren grabbed Aiden by the collar before his bleeding hand grabbed the lower half of Aiden’s face, lifting him with one hand.
“Mark,” called Zoren, only to realize that Mark was not there. Hence, he called for Angel.
“Sir?” Angel looked around with surprise, unsure of what was happening. When his eyes landed on Zoren, who was lifting Aiden by grabbing the latter’s face, Angel noticed Zoren’s open palm.
“Hand me a butcher knife,” Zoren said, gazing up at Aiden, the side of his lips twisting. “I’ll decapitate him myself.”
