Chapter 644: Replaceable
“That person… Sven Bennet…” Zoren paused as he walked out of the bathroom in only a towel robe, drying his hair with another small towel. “He’s the same person from that charity event?”
Penny, seated on the chair in front of the study desk, looked back at him. Catching a glimpse of his toned chest made her sigh.
“Yes,” she answered with a heavy heart, peeling her eyes away from him to the laptop in front of her. “He’s probably here to beg First Brother for the last time. I heard he made a huge fuss when he was kicked out of the company. That fool… First Brother already saved his face by telling him to send in his resignation letter to keep his last shred of dignity.”
Penny clicked her tongue in irritation, thinking that Sven was stubborn and foolish through and through. After a moment, her surroundings darkened as she sensed Zoren’s presence near her. Turning her head to the side, she saw Zoren place a hand on the edge of the desk and lower his head.
“What are you doing?” he asked, squinting at the monitor of her laptop, trying to grasp what she was working on.
“Heh.” Penny let out a short laugh, looking up at him before clearing her throat. “I’m not doing work—not the official kind.”
“Then what is that?”
“A timeline of my previous life,” she whispered. “Don’t worry. Even if someone steals my laptop or checks it, this document is secured. So, don’t worry about if someone reads it.”
Zoren pressed his lips together while nodding in understanding. “Year… 2020?”
“Huh?” Penny froze, quickly looking back at him. “Renren, can you see it now?!”
Zoren straightened his back as she excitedly jumped in front of him, looking at him with twinkling eyes. “I can’t,” he said. “It’s still blurry, but I can make out the words and numbers if I focus enough.”
“Oh, my goodness!” Penny gasped, covering her lips as her eyes sparkled.
“It’s not a lot…” he trailed off when Penny suddenly jumped a step forward and hugged him tightly. He gazed down at her, placing a hand on her back, but the lines between his brows remained. “Penny, it’s a small progress, and it doesn’t mean I’ll get better anytime soon.”
Penny looked up at him and grinned. “But that also means you’re getting better!”
“Well…”
“Progress is progress, and I’m so happy with it!” Penny exclaimed, feeling a little teary. Despite everything she was dealing with and all that was happening, she never forgot about Zoren’s condition.
She might make light of it sometimes and joke about it—though she didn’t fully understand why. But the bottom line was that his condition had been a constant worry for her. So, even if it was just a small improvement, she was happy with it.
Meanwhile, Zoren stared at her before the corners of his mouth hooked up. He cupped her face, brushing his thumb against her smile.
“It’s still not enough, though,” he said under his breath. “Because I still can’t see you clearly.”
“You’ll be able to in the future.” Penny giggled. “I guess the medicine is working.”
“I guess it is.” He nodded, raising his brows as he was reminded of something regarding the medicine. Doctor Tan had shown curiosity about the medication Zoren was taking. However, instead of asking her, he decided not to bring it up anymore.
“I’m so sad.” Penny pouted, still hugging him. “Renren, I think if you were gentle…”
“No.”
Her face soured at his instant and firm refusal. Her eyes swirled with bitterness as she looked up at his handsome face.
“Renren, I might have a forgiving heart, but I still know how to hold grudges,” she warned him.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t risk your health over my desire.” Zoren leaned over, planting a kiss on the tip of her nose. “But once you get better…”
A glint flickered in his eyes, and he managed a dangerous, devilish smile. “… we’re going to be in a lockdown.”
Hearing that felt like a threat, making Penny freeze on the spot. She looked at him with wide eyes, feeling a little excited but also fearful of what was going through his mind.
“Let’s get better fast,” he continued encouragingly. “Okay?”
Penny pursed her lips before a giggle escaped her. “Okay~!” she sweetly replied, letting him go. “Go change. I’ll finish this first and show you.”

Meanwhile, in the garden of the Bennet Mansion, Atlas raised a brow as he looked at his cousin in front of him. Tilting his head slightly to the side, a shallow breath slipped past his nostrils.
“Sven, do you think kneeling in front of me will change my mind?” Atlas asked, noting that Sven was indeed kneeling in front of him while promising to do well in the company. “You’re a smart one. I’m certain you could start a business on your own or have a proper position in someone else’s company.”
“However, I can’t take you back,” he continued in a knowing but firm tone. “Even if I wanted to, taking you back would damage the company’s reputation. I don’t think the board would be happy with it either, considering what you did almost dragged the company’s reputation through the mud.”
Atlas paused, hoping that Sven would understand that his decision wasn’t only a personal vendetta but also in the company’s best interest. “I’m sure you’ve already gone to Grandpa before coming here. This is the reason he probably didn’t tell you.”
“Cousin, please!” Sven pleaded, clasping the grass. “I swear I’ll live as quietly as a rat! I was good at my job, right?!”
“But you’re not irreplaceable,” was Atlas’s brutal reply as he pushed himself to stand up. Looking down at Sven, his expression remained unchanged and unfazed, devoid of the slightest hint of sympathy. He added, “What I mean is, I am also not irreplaceable. So, it’s better to have some dignity and reflect on your actions.”
“These are the consequences of your actions, Sven,” Atlas stressed. “You brought this upon yourself. I hope this will be a lesson for you to take the right path. Perhaps, in the future, we can work together like Dad and Uncle Haines.”
Having said that, Atlas turned on his heel to leave. However, before going inside the mansion, he spoke again.
“Go home; it’s late. Though, I hope this is the last time you come to me begging on your knees. It’s very unpleasant.”
After that statement rolled off Atlas’s tongue, he resumed his steps and left. Sven, on the other hand, clasped the grass even tighter as his entire body shook with fury.
He came here as a last resort, swallowing his pride to beg and apologize. But alas, Atlas not only mocked him but also stomped his pride into smithereens.
‘Hah…’ Sven’s face twisted as he dug his nails into the ground. ‘Does he think I’m begging for me? Hah, Atlas! I’ll make sure you regret this!’
