Chapter 650: I saw you
Listening to Finn made Penny realize just how relatable he was. It surprised her that she could relate to him on so many levels. All this time, she had thought that another person who experienced the same phenomenon as her would be more dreadful and alarming. But it was more than that.
That thinking was shallow, and she only realized that now.
Finn and Penny shared the same phenomenon, but unlike Penny, who had to change her life entirely, Finn had it a lot easier. After all, he didn’t have to go through all the side gigs she did just to survive. Well, Penny had to survive poverty first, before facing her impending doom, right?
Finn was not like that.
Finn had a good life. He was the son of a successful couple with generational wealth. He was also smart and an excellent student from the beginning. All of his achievements in this lifetime stemmed from his first life.
That was why Finn got into the Star Section so easily when he convinced his parents to let him pursue his studies in Anteca. He didn’t have to resort to any underhanded means to get into the Star Section. However, he chose to remain in the top ten simply because that spot was a lot more thrilling than any other position in the Star Section.
The bottom line was that Finn didn’t know Penny from the beginning because the Summit School of Excellence was a new environment.
‘So, he didn’t know about me for a long time, huh?’ Penny didn’t know whether to sigh in relief or bombard him with more questions. ‘He still hasn’t told me who made him attend the Summit School. This cunning fox… just made me listen to all of this, including his bragging.’
Even so, Penny stayed to listen for more.
“That’s the history.” Finn clapped, and at that moment, they heard a knock on the door. The two of them looked toward the entrance, only to see the server pushing in a cart with their food. “Right, I didn’t tell you, but I ordered us some food.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“But I am,” he replied. “Don’t worry. It’s not poisoned.”
Penny rolled her eyes, waiting for the server to serve all the food before leaving. Once they were alone again, she fixed her gaze on him.
“Continue,” she urged indifferently. “I’m entertained.”
“Your indifference hurts my pride. No wonder Dean is trying to win you over as some sort of goal,” he quipped, taking his time to serve himself since his hunger was legitimate. After taking a few bites, he straightened his back and cast her a look.
“So, where were we…?” he hummed, pondering where he had left off.
“Your conquest in tormenting Theo Miller.”
He laughed, wiping the corners of his mouth with a cloth. “Right. Fun times.”
“Tss.”
“But you could say that I was already on your side from the beginning,” he remarked. “If not for me, that fool would’ve harassed your brother to no end.”
“My brother doesn’t need saving.”
This time, Finn snorted, causing her to arch a brow.
“What is it?” she asked suspiciously. “What’s so funny about what I said?”
“The entire sentence is hilarious.” Finn leaned forward. “Penelope, what do you think happened to your brother while you were in that prison, hmm?”
“…” She didn’t answer because she had no answer to give him.
Back then, she had loathed them day and night, and she didn’t have the time to wonder what her brothers were doing outside. They hadn’t visited her; Atlas had only visited her once, and that had ended in more heartache.
“You know how I found out that you’ve probably shared the same phenomenon as I did?” His inquiry sparked curiosity in her eyes. “Because I knew you by name, but I didn’t focus on you much. I didn’t know what kind of life you had, so I had no idea that you were changing your life at that time.”
“I found out about it—or rather, the questions started coming into my head—when I saw you at Mama.”
“Mama?”
Finn smirked. “That time I picked up Nina, and you walked her out.”

“That’s around the time I arrived in Anteca,” she blurted out, and he nodded.
“That’s right.” He winked at her. “It’s very recent. Don’t blame me for it. The Penelope Bennet I know is… cute. Moreover, I also know that you did an internship under Professor Singh. So, I thought the timeline was following its natural course of action.”
‘What made you suspect me that time?’ was what she wanted to ask him, but Penny bit her tongue. She had already slipped up once, and making another mistake might lead to something she would regret.
“I saw you.”
“Huh?”
“In the past lifetime, I saw you as an adult,” he clarified. “And there’s one thing I can tell you: you look healthier than you’re supposed to. But the real reason that made me wonder whether or not you’ve gone through what I experienced is Nina.”
Slowly, her brows rose in surprise. “Nina?”
“Mhm,” he chuckled. “Your relationship with her isn’t like this one. Initially, I thought she was just playing and maintaining an image she used to uphold in the past. However, the more I observed your interactions and heard her thoughts about you, the more I was certain something was wrong. Something wasn’t right, and it wasn’t supposed to be like this.”
‘In other words, he’s telling me he knew my relationship with Nina in the past as well,’ she thought, her expression growing solemn. ‘How? I don’t even know him in my past life.’
Seeing the change in her expression, his smile faded a bit as he tilted his head slightly. “I told you, Penelope Bennet. You and I… we never met each other in the first life and that’s true. However, before you jump to a conclusion, there’s a reason I know you. To be exact, I heard about you.”
“Nina… is Jonathan’s wife,” he emphasized, smirking. “Jonathan was my friend.”
