Chapter 682: It must be him
“Nina!” Penny skidded to a halt when she saw Nina seated on the bench outside the emergency surgery room.
Turning at the sound of Penny’s voice, Nina’s eyes brimmed with tears as she rose. “Penny,” was all she could say as she rushed into Penny’s arms. “Penny… what am I going to do?”
“Nina,” Penny breathed out, her heart thudding as she rushed in the moment she received Nina’s call. Stroking Nina’s back, she huffed and snapped her eyes to the emergency door behind Nina. “It’s okay, Nina. It’s okay.”
“Penny… What am I going to do? What if something terrible happened? I can’t forgive myself!”
Just earlier today, Nina had been with Finn, and the outcome hadn’t been particularly good. Despite their separation, she had never intended to wish him anything terrible. Even so, her heart was filled with not just worry but also guilt.
Nina cried and cried while Penny comforted her silently. When they heard something buzz, both shifted their attention to the door. The lights above it had turned off, and soon enough, a doctor emerged.

Nina’s sniffles echoed in the private ward where Finn was now recovering. She sat beside the bed, keeping her mouth shut in an attempt to muffle her cries. However, her hiccups would still resonate now and then as she held the tip of Finn’s finger.
Meanwhile, Penny stared at Nina from outside the door through the window. She gazed at Nina’s trembling back, sighing deeply. When she turned away from the door, she glanced at the man standing close to her.
“Come with me,” she said, and without further ado, she walked away while the man quietly followed her.
Standing in the corner of the hallway, where they wouldn’t be disturbed, Penny gazed at the man. He had a petite but tall stature, with a face familiar from her past life and in the current one. He looked pathetic at a glance, if not for the deep look in his eyes.
“What happened?” she asked, her tone solemn but commanding.
The man studied her for a moment before saying, “We’ve been following him all day, but during his last meeting… we noticed he was acting strange.”
“Strange, how?”
“He kept looking around and seemed to be in a hurry.”
Penny nodded, grasping the sequence of events. Ever since Finn had stepped out of her office early that morning, she had him followed. They had been tailing him; that was how she got Jonathan’s photos and confirmed the man’s identity.
“Tell me more about it,” she ordered quietly, which the man willingly did, detailing everything from start to finish.
Aside from Finn’s visit to Prime Group Headquarters and meeting Nina at the restaurant, he had gone about his day as usual. However, just as the man mentioned, Finn left the restaurant where he met another business associate. From there, it seemed he had been driving around the city aimlessly until he reached an empty freeway where a truck suddenly sped toward his car.
“Luckily, we were there,” the man said to Penny. “When the truck hit the rear of his car, I caught someone stepping out.”
“The driver?”
“The passenger. It looked to me like they were trying to finish the job. We had to step in, so they ran.”
A shallow laugh escaped her as she thought about it. This all happened one hour before Nina called Penny. Meaning, it wasn’t that late. Orchestrating an accident to make it look like an unintended one was probably the most natural way to do it, but if someone from the truck had stepped out, it only meant one thing.
“From my professional opinion, they do not want to make it look like an accident at all,” said the man solemnly, looking at Penny with mixed emotions. “Boss, this doesn’t look good. Whoever is behind this has a twisted mind.”
“I know,” Penny murmured, her expression sharp. “Did you have the guys follow whoever those people are?”
“Yes.”
“Where are they?”
The man didn’t answer right away, knowing his response would displease her. However, he had no choice but to tell her.
“In this hospital.” His answer caused her right brow to rise. “Our men followed them while we rushed the victims to the hospital. But when they reached them, they had already crashed.”
For a moment, an echoing silence enveloped the two of them, with Penny staring at the man while he held her gaze.

“I’m sorry, Miss Penelope,” he expressed, lowering his head in respect to show his sincerity. “We couldn’t stop the accident.”
“I know you did what you could,” she said. “And Finn probably saw it coming.”
“What do we do now?”
“For now, guard the driver and the passenger of the truck. I don’t think they simply crashed because they were trying to get away. I’m sure someone wants to silence them to stop them from talking.” Penny unfolded her arms and sighed heavily. “As for Finn, make sure no one comes in here to finish the job.”
“Yes, Boss.” The man lowered his head, about to execute the order when Penny spoke again.
“And Miel,” Penny paused, watching the man look back at her. “If things get tough, pull back.”
The man, Miel, captain of the S-rank soldiers of Prime Group, sported a brief smile. “Not gonna happen, boss.”
With that, the man walked away with steps as light as a feather. Meanwhile, Penny sighed while staring at his back. She shook her head, knowing his direct disobedience was something she couldn’t change about him.
“Uncle Wild…” she trailed off and huffed. “Angel won’t like this if he hears about it.”
But Miel simply waved dismissively without looking back at her. Thus, Penny didn’t dwell on it and crossed her arms, thinking of the report she got from Miel.
“It must be him,” she murmured, narrowing her eyes. “It’s him… for sure.”
There was only one person who could do this to Finn, and that was Jonathan Pierson. After all, Finn had only started acting differently when Jonathan appeared. A glint flickered across her eyes as the thought crossed her mind.
‘Jonathan Pierson… coming back here will be your biggest nightmare.’
