Chapter 686: The Bennet’s little thief
“Sir Sven is here. He said he’s going to get his stuff. Poor guy.”
Allen couldn’t help but tilt his head from one side to the other, recalling the security guard’s remarks just now. He didn’t want to dwell on it, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that it was no wonder he felt a little bothered about leaving his briefcase behind.
Not that there was anything Sven could do with it, but he wanted to believe that Sven should have learned his lesson. After stealing a document from Atlas and using it to compete with him—only to end up humiliated in front of a huge crowd—anyone would have learned their lesson. Not to mention that, because of Sven’s foolishness, he had been kicked out of his office.
“Maybe the big boss just didn’t tell me because it’s not a big deal anymore,” he told himself, whistling as he stepped out of the elevator. “That’s probably it.”
After all, no matter how good Atlas’s mood was, he wouldn’t forget something important. Hence, Allen deemed this something he shouldn’t dwell on. However, just when he was several steps from his office, he noticed Atlas’s office door opening from the inside.
“Huh?” Allen slowed down, lines deepening between his brows. “Who…?”
He couldn’t even finish his sentence when he saw someone step out of his boss’s office.
“Sir… Sven?” Allen blurted out, causing Sven to flinch in surprise.
Slowly, Sven turned his head in Allen’s direction. His complexion was a little ashen, forcing a smile that failed miserably.
“Allen!” Sven called, his tone nervous and suspicious. “What are you doing here?”
“I should be the one asking, sir. What were you doing in Sir Atlas’s office… at this hour?”
Sven felt a lump in his throat and had to clear it as he breathed out. “Just to get some of my stuff.”
“Your stuff?”
“Yes.” Sven grinned, pulling a small pen from his pocket. “This one.”
Allen squinted, gazing at the pen. “You went to Sir Atlas’s office for a pen?”
“Ye—yes! Ha ha! It’s not just a pen, though. It’s a special pen for me. Atlas borrowed it many weeks ago, but he never returned it. I guess he keeps forgetting!” Sven laughed even more. “Anyway, since I got it, I’m on my way.”
“Uh…”
Without waiting for Allen to respond, Sven hastily turned around and walked away. Meanwhile, Allen furrowed his brows and kept his gaze on Sven’s back.
Allen glanced at the office door, murmuring, “He borrowed a pen? Since when did he go without a pen?” Again, he shifted his eyes to where Sven was headed, about to let it go when he spotted a piece of paper on the floor.
“What’s this?” He picked it up, only to see a combination of numbers written on it. “This is…”
Atlas’s account password.
Slowly, Allen held his breath, and without wasting a second, he dashed into Atlas’s office. As soon as he saw the light on the PC blinking beneath the little gap of Atlas’s desk, Allen knew in his heart that he had to stop Sven.
Whatever Sven did in this office, he sensed it wasn’t good.
“That good for nothing—!” Clenching his teeth, Allen ran out of the office and sprinted straight to where Sven was. As soon as he made a turn, he caught Sven tapping his foot impatiently while waiting for the elevator.
“Sir Sven!”
The second Allen’s voice reached Sven, the latter held his breath in surprise. Turning to Allen, Sven’s already anxious heart overflowed with panic and anxiety. He pressed the elevator button in a hurry, but seeing Allen approaching, his mind went blank before shifting into survival mode.
“Sir Sven!” Allen yelled as Sven suddenly sprinted away from the elevator. “Shit — I knew it! He must have done something!”
With that thought in mind, Allen prioritized catching the little thief from the Bennet family. He started with a jog until he found himself running, determined not to let Sven out of his sight.
Meanwhile, Sven ground his teeth as he could hear Allen’s voice calling for him.
“Shit!” he breathed through gritted teeth, picking up his pace to match the rhythm of his racing heart. “Why did he come back?”

Sven had been working in the company longer than both Atlas and Allen. Even so, he understood their routine quite well. After all, Atlas was a man of routine. He was the type who often stuck to his schedule, which was why many of the CEO’s direct staff adapted that work habit.
This meant Sven shouldn’t have come back to the office once he left. There was nothing for him to do anyway since Atlas had already gone home.
So, why had Allen returned?
Myriad of questions surged in Sven’s mind along with adrenaline. But after a beat, his mind reached a quick conclusion: none of the questions mattered. It didn’t matter why or how or what.
There was only one thing that was most important: Sven was in trouble.
‘If he catches me… no, even if he doesn’t catch me… he’ll keep talking,’ Sven’s breath hitched at the thought. ‘They told me not to get caught or I’d be dead.’
His mind slowly went blank again, his eyes darting as they searched for an escape route. This floor had only two exits: one was the elevator, and the other was…
“The emergency exit,” he whispered, spotting the emergency exit door.
Without thinking twice, Sven rushed to it and kicked the door open.
“Sir — Sven!” Allen hissed as he saw Sven jump through the emergency exit. This time, his suspicion solidified, and he was more determined to catch him.
As Allen ran to the emergency door, he felt his pockets to call the security guard about Sven. But alas, his phone wasn’t there. Only then did he realize he had left his phone in the car since he didn’t plan to stay long.
But that didn’t stop him.
Allen and Sven had almost the same physique and height. He could take him on. Thus, Allen unhesitatingly approached the emergency door.
“I won’t let you sabotage Sir Atlas again…!” he shouted, only to pause as soon as he stepped inside and found Sven was nowhere to be seen. “Where did he…?”
Allen quickly went to the railing, looking over it and then up. However, he couldn’t see any movement in the stairs below or above. As he was looking, the door behind him slowly closed, revealing Sven hiding behind it with a fire extinguisher.
“Hmm?” Allen furrowed his brows as he heard a strange noise beneath his shoes. Gazing down, he saw pieces of broken glass. But before he could wonder what it was, he saw a shadow stretching from behind him.
His breath hitched as his eyes widened. He gripped the railing tightly and looked back, but as soon as he did, something hard struck the side of his head, causing him to fall down the stairs.
