Chapter 695: Nothing is sometimes something
Atlas and Chairman Bennet sat down on a set of couches, with the chairman on the one-seater while Atlas occupied the long sofa. Chairman Bennet rocked his head, squinting at his grandson.
“I heard what you did during the emergency board meeting,” said the chairman, his tone uncertain. “Good work.”
Atlas nodded, a bit surprised by that.
“Atlas,” Chairman Bennet called solemnly. “I understand that you want to believe in your assistant—”
“I don’t just want to believe it, Chairman,” Atlas interrupted, cutting off his grandfather as it seemed the latter was trying to talk him out of the whole Allen situation. “I believe it. I believe in him.”
Chairman Bennet studied the look in Atlas’s eyes, almost laughing at the way Atlas said his words. The shine of resolve in his eyes reminded him of his son. Surely, Charles had a little bit of him in his sons.
“I’m not trying to talk you out of it,” Chairman Bennet clarified. “Relax, Atlas. You don’t have to look at me as if I am your enemy.”
Was he not?
Atlas pressed his lips tighter, tempted to call his grandfather out. After all, this old man had always antagonized Atlas from the moment he sat down on that board. If not for a single card—that golden invitation—would this man leave him alone?
It took this man to stop his antics because of one golden card.
Just a card.
The more Atlas thought about it, the more his heart burned with fury. Surely, what happened to Allen affected him greatly.
Chairman Bennet let out a deep exhale. “I approve of your decision to not turn your back on your people.”
“Are you saying that because you know you won’t change my mind?”
“I’m saying it because it’s what I taught your father, and he taught it to you,” Chairman Bennet stressed. “You don’t turn your back on your own people. It’s what the Bennets do. Even if your people’s actions are something you’re not proud of, you don’t turn your back on them. You cut them loose, but until they are your people, you take responsibility for them.”
He paused, huffing out, as this was probably the first time he had imparted some wisdom to this young man. “It’s why it angered me when your father enlisted in the military. That young fool…” He shook his head, clearing his throat, knowing this wasn’t important right now.
“All I’m saying is, I’m proud of you, Atlas,” he expressed. “This might not mean anything to you, but it’s the truth.”
Again, Chairman Bennet paused, holding Atlas’s gaze as his own shone with fury. “Make sure to catch whoever that bastard is trying to sow discord among this family.”
“I will.” A glint flickered across his eyes. “I’m on it.”
Chairman Bennet nodded at Atlas with satisfaction. The two of them stared at each other without another word. However, their eyes already spoke of what they hadn’t said.
Whoever did this would pay a heavy price.

Meanwhile…
“That damn Atlas!” Stephen Bennet, Sven’s father, roared as soon as he reached home. “That brat… he always thinks he’s better than everyone else.”
His eyes shone malevolently; he still hadn’t forgotten how Atlas kicked Sven out. Even now, Stephen hadn’t seen the chairman because the latter wouldn’t see any of their family.
“Honey.” A beautiful woman in her mid-fifties looked at him with worry. “Honey, why don’t you calm down first, hmm?”
The man frowned, looking at his beautiful wife, who had aged so gracefully. “Where’s Sven?”
“He’s upstairs,” the woman smiled wryly. “Step, just let your son be for now, okay? He’s resting.”
“That fool—” Filled with fury at the cause of all their family problems, Stephen marched up the stairs. His wife tried to stop him in a hurry, but to no avail.
“Sven! Sven!” Stephen yelled, ready to vent his frustrations about that disgrace in the family. “Sven!”

“Honey, please calm down!” the woman hurriedly matched her husband’s pace, soothing him as she didn’t want him to hurt Sven again.
God knows just what sort of beating Sven got from his father when Stephen heard about what happened during the charity event. However, Stephen was not angry at the fact that Sven tried to sabotage Atlas. He was angry at the fact that Sven was caught and ended up humiliating himself in front of many people.
Now, Stephen, who was left in the company, had to carry that shame. Even his voice in the company was being muffled, as his son’s actions affected his credibility. Instead of having people on his side, Stephen only had himself.
“Sven!”
When they reached Sven’s room, Stephen kicked the door open. Both he and his wife stepped in without a second thought. However, Sven was not on the bed, nor was he in the study area. Moving their gaze to the side, both husband and wife froze as their eyes dilated.
“Kyah!!” Mrs. Bennet screamed at the top of her lungs as she staggered back and fell on her bottom. She placed a hand on her gaping mouth, her wide eyes shaking.
Meanwhile, Stephen just froze, staring at his son hanging on the door of his bathroom. It took him a moment to realize what they had just walked into.
“Sven!!”

Somewhere near Global Prime Logistics…
“Lieutenant, did you find anything?” asked the clerk as Hugo checked the CCTV footage regarding some incidents from last night.
Hugo didn’t answer, staring at the monitors in front of him. Without taking his eyes off the screens, he asked, “Did anyone come here to check?”
“Huh? No, sir.” The store clerk shook his head. “Even though we close early, we keep the CCTV on at night.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Can I have a copy of this footage?”
“Uh…” The clerk looked back at the door before casting his attention to Hugo again. “Well, I have to ask the manager for that.”
“This is a police investigation,” Hugo remarked. “I need this copy. I don’t have another minute to spare.”
Reluctance shone in the clerk’s eyes, unsure of what to do. But seeing the look in Hugo’s eyes, he had no choice.
“Well, I guess?” the clerk shrugged. “But sir, did you find anything in the footage?”
This time, Hugo didn’t answer. But if he was going to, there was only one answer he could give: ‘Nothing.’
Hugo found nothing—no suspicious vehicles or people around—in the footage, which was the same for the establishments surrounding the company’s area. But there were times when finding nothing was, sometimes, something.
