Chapter 701: A life with Zoren
Penny had always listened to her gut feeling; it had saved her multiple times in this lifetime. Thus, she often heeded it, and right now, her intuition was telling her that all these attacks disguised as “accidents” were connected in one way or another.
Although it wasn’t clear, and there didn’t seem to be any connection between Finn, Allen, and Merrick, Penny was almost certain this wasn’t just a coincidence.
‘Finn, Allen, Merrick…’ Penny thought, squinting her eyes as she stared out the window from the backseat of the sedan. ‘Finn told me about Jonathan, Merrick is digging up the baby swap, but Allen…?’
What did Allen have to do with all of this to the point he was being framed for stealing the company’s data?
Penny didn’t think much of the attack in the Information Center because that was Merrick’s business. It was part of the complicated and dangerous lives of those connected to it. As for Finn, it was clear as day who he was against. Only Allen’s situation was different.
Unlike Merrick and Finn, who were, in a way, too involved with all the mysteries lurking in the deepest parts of their shadows, Allen seemed like an anomaly. He didn’t fit in at all. Aside from working for Atlas, Allen had no idea what was happening. Penny was certain Atlas couldn’t have trusted the Bennet situation with Allen because it was dangerous.
Wasn’t that the reason Charles had kept his mouth shut all this time?
Knowing what Charles had gone through, the people involved attracted danger itself. So, there was no way Atlas would’ve told Allen about it.
Then, back to the main point: Why Allen?
“Are you okay?” Zoren’s calm and gentle voice caressed her ears, snapping her back to the present. When Penny held his gaze, he said, “You’ve been quiet since we left the hospital. Very quiet.”
“I’m okay.” Penny nodded and smiled. “It’s just that Allen doesn’t fit into all of this at all.”
“Perhaps it’s just like what your Second Brother and First Brother suspect. Allen found out about something he shouldn’t have. Whether it was an accident or not, I’m sure they wanted to keep his mouth shut… for whatever reason.”
Penny shook her head. “What is it, though?” she replied, not expecting any clear answer from her husband. She was simply voicing her thoughts. “What did he find out? Why was he even in the company at that hour in the first place?”
“I think ‘why’ is not the question.”
“Huh?”
“Why he was there in the first place doesn’t matter. Allen is the only person who could explain why he was there. However, what I’m certain of is that whoever was in there that night didn’t expect him to be there either.”
Another moment of silence fell between them as Penny looked at her husband with a new realization. Her lips parted slightly, nodding in understanding.
“You’re right,” she murmured under her breath. “Why he was there in the first place isn’t important. It’s what he saw — or who?”
Penny pressed her lips into a thin line, snapping her eyes back to her husband. “He knew him.”
“He must’ve known who it was,” Zoren nodded. “Probably someone you know as well… or someone working in the company.”
“But there were hundreds of employees in the company.”
“That’s why we’re going to look after them.”
“Hah.” Penny let out a sharp breath, gulping down the tension in her throat. “That makes a lot of sense.”
“My men are already on it, but just like Second Brother, even the footage from the establishments around the area was wiped clean or tampered with. So, it’ll take a while. I’m sorry.”
A small smile turned up on her face as she shook her head slightly. “Don’t be sorry. You’ve helped us a lot. If it weren’t for you, I don’t think I would have the leisure to come home tonight, knowing my second brother is… in bad shape.”
“You already have a lot on your plate, but you’re still helping us with this,” she added, clasping his hand and squeezing it. “Thank you.”
“I have plenty of space on my plate for my family.” He held her hand back, nodding at her reassuringly. “The Pierson Family might share the same family name as I do, but they’re not my family.”
The two of them smiled at each other until Penny scooted closer, resting her head on his shoulder. She closed her eyes, whispering, “What am I going to do without you?”
“You know what you would do with or without me.”
“Heh.” A dry laugh escaped her as she glanced up at him with a subtle smile. “I know, but it wouldn’t be the same anymore.”

Penny couldn’t completely call it a downside, but if she had to name one in this relationship, it would be this: Before Zoren came into her life, Penny had always stood alone. She might have had a family who loved her, but she never considered them the people she could lean on. At least, not in these cases.
But with Zoren by her side, she could relax; she could be vulnerable; she could be human. With him around, she could close her eyes even knowing the world was crumbling because he would be there to make sure nothing would fall on her.
A life with Zoren was different because if it weren’t for him, Penny would’ve taken a different action. A fiercer one, a crazier one, a deadly one.
“Thank you,” she whispered, closing her eyes again while resting her head on his shoulder. “For now, let’s focus on the family meeting.”
“Mhm.” He hummed, cradling her hand, knowing his wife needed rest, not just physically, but also mentally.

Meanwhile, in the Global Prime Logistics company, Atlas stood quietly at the emergency exit where Allen was found. The place had already been cleaned after the investigation, but he could imagine Allen lying on that floor.
Atlas kept a straight face, his eyes sharp. “I wonder… what did the person who did that to him feel while standing here, with Allen lying over there?” His jaw tightened at the thought, his hands slowly clenching into fists.
Just then, Atlas felt his phone vibrate against his chest. Taking it out, he glanced at the number before picking it up with confusion. The moment he heard the reason for the call, the lines on his forehead deepened.
“Sven… tried to kill himself?”
