Chapter 715: Z
[PRESENT TIME]
Zoren was only a possible threat, but after a long observation, Slater could relax for a bit. Zoren wasn’t a threat—he could be if he remembered how things went down in the previous life. He was the least of Slater’s concerns… for now.
Despite other concerns, Slater was more worried about the current situation.
“I thought it wouldn’t happen because Penny’s already on it, and she’s not poking her nose into the company much,” he whispered, sighing as he glanced at the phone. “But I guess… even with the second life, First Brother’s disposition makes him the big shot in all of this.”
With the largest connections in the ports of Anteca, Atlas was surely a catch for those wanting to enter through it. Although the majority of ports in Anteca were publicly owned, Global Prime Logistics was trusted to operate in all port terminals, and it wouldn’t be a stretch to say Atlas had significant control over them. Currently, Atlas was handling a large portion of the exports and imports.
In their first life, that was the main reason the Bennet Family got tangled up in it all. It could’ve stopped if Penny had been locked up and punished. But people from outside prison, including Atlas and Zoren, started digging into it.
“Zoren Pierson,” Slater whispered. “He’s the one who blew everything out of proportion. I still don’t know if I should be grateful to him or not.”
Another deep sigh escaped Slater as he thought of the past. However, he hadn’t been present for most of it because he had been held captive.
“I’m having a headache,” he hissed, snapping his attention back to the phone in his hand. “Gee, what does he want now?”
Clicking his tongue, Slater pressed the call button on the contact labeled Z and held the phone to his ear. It rang only a few times before being picked up, followed by the voice of a woman.
“Hello?”
“…” Slater scrunched up his nose at the greeting, glancing at his phone in dismay. “What?”
“Huh?” The woman on the other end hummed. “You’re the one who called me. What do you mean, what?”
“The old guy from the mechanic shop told me you were asking about me,” Slater clarified, irritation creeping into his voice. “What do you want?”
The woman on the other end smirked and chuckled. “I’m simply worried about our little superstars.”
“Tss.”
“These checks aren’t new. It’s part of the… protocol.”
“Protocol my ass—stop stalking me!” he harrumphed. “I gave you all the original copies of my album. What else do you want?”
“Oh, Slater, come on~” the woman cooed. “Am I not allowed to check on you? Especially when you’ve been quite free but wouldn’t even try to visit us in the office?”
Slater’s frown deepened, knowing this woman was simply teasing him. “When I joined this unit, I didn’t sign up for a stalker of a boss.”
“Haha. Slater, I’m just worried. I heard you were almost stabbed to death. If you hadn’t been saved, he would’ve mutilated your beautiful face! That bastard… everyone was angry about that, you know? We like to protect your handsome face.”
“Seriously?” Slater scoffed. “You really think that fool would get me?”
The woman’s smirk stretched even wider. “Of course not. Otherwise, I’d be very disappointed.”
“Tss. I know he’s been following me, and I saw him coming.” Slater massaged his nape, tilting his head from side to side. “It’s just that… I forgot my sister was with me, and she jumped in to stop it.”
“Either way, you got the vacation leave you wanted, right?”
Slater arched a brow and leaned back. “Mhm. That’s right.”
“Hahaha!” The woman burst out laughing. “What a manipulative son of a bitch!”
“Say that again, and I’d really come and visit you in the office.”
“Ahem! Sorry.” The woman cleared her throat, fixing her tone after her round of laughter. “I heard you asked to check the CCTV on the route… Bay District.”
“Mhm.” Slater hummed. “Someone will look into it, but it might blow my cover.”

“You are being reckless.”
“It’s my brother’s life on the line, Mint. I would be even more reckless if I had to.”
“…”
For a moment, there was nothing but silence on the other end of the line. Meanwhile, Slater’s sharp and fierce front remained.
“I see.” It took another moment before the woman, Mint, spoke again. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah.” Slater touched his side, lifting his shirt to see some bruising.
“Alright, then.”
“Wait—!” Slater yelled, knowing the woman would hang up on him since she had finished teasing him. “Can you help me find out who was targeting my brother?”
Mint hummed a tune, tapping her fingertip on her crossed leg. “We’re already on it, but until now, nothing has turned up. However, there’s one thing I find interesting.”
“What is it?”
“It seems… we’re not the only interested party.” The woman smiled, her eyes squinting and twinkling. “This is going to be fun.”
“It’s not fun if it concerns my family,” Slater hissed, becoming increasingly irritated the more he talked to her. “Bye, Captain.”
“Take care, Slater. Visit us in your free time and…”
But Slater didn’t respond and ended the call. He gazed at his phone and shook his head, placing it in the holder. Resting his hand on the steering wheel, a glint flickered across his eyes before he restarted the car and hit the road once again.

Meanwhile…
“Take care, Slater. Visit us in your free time…”
Clack.
The woman in the backseat of an SUV arched a brow as she glanced at her phone. A chuckle slipped past her red lips as she shrugged.
“What a hot-blooded man. Always so cocky… but well, perhaps that’s his charm,” she commented before the door opened from the other side. A man stood outside and offered his hand to her, which she clasped as she stepped out.
As she marched away, several more people followed her into the building of Anteca’s Homeland Security Internal Affairs Division.
