Chapter 716: Would it ever
[Prime Group]
“Hey, hey~” Yugi leaned on the doorjamb, eyes on Penny behind her desk. He raised a few pages of a document, smiling. “Guess what this is?”
Penny’s brows rose, and just seeing his face, her lips stretched into a smile. “Is it done?”
“Is that even a question?” he chuckled, walking in and dropping the papers in front of her. “Take a look. These are the initial entries, Penny.”
“Hehe.” Penny picked up the papers, skimming through them excitedly. “Wow, lots of familiar names, I see.”
Yugi rocked his head, hands on the edge of the desk, his eyes on Penny. “Well, a million-dollar prize is bound to bring people out of the woodwork.”
“Heh.” Penny leaned back, pleased. “Good work.”
“I didn’t do much.” Yugi pushed himself away, blinking. “Penny, are you sure about this?”
“Yes.” Penny tossed the papers back on the desk, looking him in the eye. “Why wouldn’t I be? I’m putting the software on the market, so I need to show everyone its value. Giving away a million isn’t so bad if the price ramps up afterward.”
Yugi chuckled, still impressed by how sharp Penny was when it came to making money. “At this rate, you’re going to be richer than Atlas.”
“Who said it’s a competition?”
“I did.” Yugi winked, casually turning halfway before looking back at her. “Penny, about the car… I still haven’t heard from Atlas.”
“Atlas has a lot on his plate right now, so you got to wait.”
“Right, his assistant is being framed—damn.” Yugi sighed, a little irritated that all this happened right when his car was supposed to be delivered. “Did they catch who did it?”
“From what I heard, Atlas is already on it.” Penny pressed her lips together, studying Yugi’s face and noting the doubt in his eyes. “Hugo too, but so far, there’s been no progress in the investigation beyond Allen’s attempt to steal company data.”
“Seriously?” Yugi scrunched up his nose, looking up. “Can I… help?”
Penny arched a brow. “You want to help so you can get your car?”
“Well, of course. Why else would I want to help your brother and add more work for myself? I’m already swamped here. Do you think I want to torture myself for no reason?”
“Well, it’s up to you.” Penny shrugged. “But be careful.”
“When have I not been careful?”
The corner of her lips curled up, and Yugi raised his brows meaningfully. “You knew?” she asked.
“About Hugo?” Yugi snorted, shrugging as he walked away. He waved without looking back, saying, “Your brother is more of a brute. Sometimes I wonder if his brain is muscle too.”
“Haha. Don’t let him hear you say that,” she quipped. “You’re dead if he finds out.”
Yugi glanced back at her as he held the door. “That’s why I’m avoiding him at all costs. I’m going home early. Don’t stay here too late.”
After that, Yugi closed the door as Penny laughed.
“Goodness. Look at that evil twin, acting like he’s my boss,” she murmured, shaking her head as she picked up the paper he delivered. Her smile stretched wider as she read over it. “This is good.”
Her eyes twinkled as she read the event name: National Cyber Hacking Competition.
“Let’s see if there’s any real talent here,” she smirked, pleased to see things going smoothly according to plan.
Although issues were affecting the people around her, Penny knew they were capable enough to handle their own problems. Even if it was connected to her in some way, the least she could do was keep moving forward instead of putting everything on hold.
“First Brother will be fine,” she told herself, nodding. “And Renren… I’m sure he’ll be fine tomorrow.”

Penny pursed her lips and placed the paper in her desk drawer, closing the tabs on her monitor and calling it a day. It was still early, but she wanted to go home because Zoren would be home early too. She wanted to spend some time with him before the family meeting, to cheer him up.
Zoren had been her strongest pillar of support, so even though she knew he didn’t need it, she wanted to show him she was always there for him.
But just as Penny picked up her bag and was about to leave the office, the door suddenly opened. Penny stopped, gazing at the door, her brows furrowing.
“Third Brother?” she called in disbelief, her face twitching as she narrowed her eyes suspiciously. ‘I don’t feel good about this.’
Penny tried to fix the look of dismay on her face but failed. “Third Brother, what are you doing here?”
“I should be the one asking you,” Slater blinked. “Where are you going?”
“Well, I’m going home?”
“This early?”
“Third Brother, I’m not a celebrity with a crazy schedule,” she replied matter-of-factly. “I’m a corporate slave.”
“You’re the corporate who slaves people.”
“Third Brother, don’t tell me you came here just to criticize me?”
“Of course not! I came because I missed you! Penny, isn’t it too early for you to go home?” Slater blinked, innocently changing the subject. “Let’s hang out!”
“…” Penny pursed her lips, thinking back to the last time she went out with Slater. She had wanted to reciprocate his affection and give him some of her time since she felt guilty for taking him for granted.
However, that memory reminded her of the scandalous article that appeared weeks later. Looking at Slater, her face contorted. The article had been bad enough, but Slater had even dared to pour fuel on the fire.
“Third Brother, about that article… was it resolved?”
“Nope!”
“Would it ever?”
“Depends!”
Penny felt her heart sink as she looked at him helplessly. He was grinning as if his name hadn’t been dragged into a ridiculous dating scandal. Not only that but she too was being linked with him in such a scandalous affair — it was ridiculous! But look at him!
“Let’s not go out,” she sighed, and he instantly frowned. “Just come home with me. Goodness, I’m not about to add more fuel to an already burning fire.”
The corner of his mouth stretched from ear to ear until his eyes squinted. “But it’s kinda nice! The rumor cut my admirers in half, and people call you the luckiest woman alive!”
“This isn’t luck,” she muttered, continuing her steps while Slater happily followed her, wagging his invisible tail.
