Chapter 731: Confession
“Why don’t you just admit that you’ve done this alone? That’ll help us get a lighter sentence.”
Sven’s heart sank as he stared at his lawyer with wide eyes, disbelief evident on his face as he tried to process what the lawyer was telling him.
[Are you sure you want to drag them into this?]
That question alone should’ve been enough for Sven to put two and two together. However, he was in denial and hadn’t paid attention to it. But now that the lawyer was being blunt, it was clear that this man hadn’t come to help him—he was here to remind Sven of the people Sven planned to implicate with him.
‘I should’ve known.’ Sven hung his head low, feeling his strength slowly drain. ‘When they made Allen’s incident look like an unlucky accident, I should’ve known they could do that to me too.’
If not for whatever Atlas did, Allen would have been painted as a greedy thief.
But with this?
Sven slowly looked up at his lawyer, who nodded at him reassuringly and encouragingly. He pressed his lips into a thin line, swallowing hard.
‘Don’t tell me… they’re the ones who tipped off Atlas?’ he wondered. ‘If they didn’t, then… how else would Atlas know about the plan tonight?’
Sven clasped his hands together, nearly suffocating as he struggled to breathe amidst the thoughts swirling in his mind. Unlike earlier, when thoughts flooded his mind all at once, he felt his brain slow down and calm down out of dread.
‘They’re the ones… who set me up?’ he asked himself, his brows knitting together. ‘What if I don’t want to? What if I refuse to listen to him?’
Again, Sven looked up at his lawyer, who offered him a meek smile.
“Consequences,” Sven blurted out under his breath. “You said there would be consequences. What are they?”
The lawyer sighed faintly. “Don’t you really know what they are?”
“They’re going to kill me?”
“Not just you, Mr. Bennet,” he said meaningfully. “You’re smart, so I’m sure I don’t need to spell it out for you.”
The implication was clear: silencing Sven wasn’t the only thing they would do to punish him. Worse, they would go after his family. Sven hung his head again, barely blinking. His heart pounded so hard he could hear it beating in his ears.
‘Mom…’ he thought, picturing the only person who truly mattered to him. ‘Dad… Pia…’
Although Sven had his differences with his father and sister, he didn’t hate them that much. They were still his family, after all. Before the humiliating charity event, Stephen Bennet had always been lenient with him.
“Shit,” he hissed as his eyes stung, raising his hands in a prayer-like position and resting his forehead against them. “Shit.”
Eventually, tears welled up in his eyes, and he choked on his breath, thinking about what to do and what could have been done. Part of him regretted ever calling that man back. If Sven hadn’t been so blinded by rage and jealousy, he wouldn’t be in this situation.
Now, it felt like chains from deep underground were crawling to the surface, slowly wrapping around his ankles. They felt like they were inching up his legs, pinning him in place, whispering that he couldn’t escape.
“Shit,” he muttered through gritted teeth, closing his eyes as tears fell onto the table. “Damn it…”
During his private time with his lawyer, all Sven could do was cry and curse under his breath. It was the only way he knew how to react to all of this. What else could he do, knowing where this was heading?
Whoever had approached him must’ve planned to abandon him from the beginning. But why? Sven wondered about it briefly but didn’t dwell on it; the answer didn’t matter anymore.
He wasn’t completely innocent, after all. He’d screwed up when Allen found him, and things spiraled out of control when he pushed Allen down the stairs. Even so, it didn’t feel fair that Sven was the only one going down for it.

“My client admits to all the accusations…” the lawyer said as the detective joined them for questioning.
The detective who had initially interrogated Sven raised his brows. The other detective glanced at his colleague before turning back to the lawyer.
“He’s admitting to the crimes?” the lazy detective asked, and the lawyer nodded before adding more details. However, the detective seemed uninterested in the technicalities, focusing instead on Sven.

Unlike earlier, when Sven insisted he was being framed, he now sat there lifelessly. Sven kept his eyes on the table between him and the detectives, his expression blank, his gaze vacant. He didn’t seem to care about what was being discussed.
“Mr. Sven Bennet, do you admit that you tried to steal company data to sell it?” asked the detective, watching as Sven slowly lifted his deadened eyes to them.
“Mhm.”
The detective furrowed his brows but continued. “And while doing so, Mr. Allen returned unexpectedly and caught you?”
“Mhm.”
“A chase ensued, and you deliberately headed to the emergency exit with the intent of hurting him?”
Sven didn’t respond immediately, staring at the detective with the same lifeless expression.
“Hurt him? Hah… no, detective,” he whispered. “I went to the emergency exit because I knew that even if he didn’t catch me, he’d tell Atlas. Between him, who had always been by the CEO’s side, and me, who is always at odds with the CEO, I was certain everyone would believe him more than me. Not to mention, I was just recently involved in an incident that resulted in me being kicked out of the company. So, I pushed him down the stairs. But given his reputation at the company, I knew there would be an investigation. So, I set up the scene to make it look like he was the one stealing.”
“I’ve worked at Global Prime Logistics longer—even longer than the current CEO—so I knew how to make it happen,” Sven added listlessly. “I did it, detective. All of it… it’s on me.”
