Chapter 739: Bad influence
Penny’s intentions were undeniably good, but sometimes not all good intentions lead to good results.
“I just added some vitamins for extra nutrients. It’s not that bad — Ginnie told me it’s effective. It’s not like I was trying to poison you all.”
Everyone was in disbelief for a moment upon hearing Penny’s explanation. They could only stare at her, wondering if they had heard her correctly. To be sure, Slater urged Penny to repeat what she had done, and that was how they uncovered the mystery of her god-awful dishes.
Every time Penny served food, she would sprinkle some of the vitamins she hid under the kitchen counter as if she were garnishing it.
“And then some whey protein for muscle building, wound healing, and weight gain,” she mumbled, doing what she had done before mixing everything. After that, she would garnish it properly. “Then, done!”
“…” Everyone was rendered speechless as Atlas finished the last spoonful from his plate.
No wonder everyone was complaining and literally crying. The food itself was good, but with all the things she added, it ruined the taste.
“I add these things because I know you guys need energy and strength, okay?” Penny explained with a deep sigh. “Take it as a mother making a healthy smoothie for her picky child. It shouldn’t taste weird at all. You didn’t even taste the vegetables I added.”
“…” Again, no one could find the words to respond, staring at her in dismay.
“Ginnie said this is what she does to her team,” she mumbled, pouting. “Look at them. They’re clinching championships.”
“…”
Penny pursed her lips at the silence that followed her remarks. She could almost hear their breaths echo.
“Penny,” Slater scoffed, barely recovering his voice. “Have you tasted that abomination before serving it to everyone?”
“I taste my dishes before I serve them!”
“But have you tasted them with all those vitamins in it?”
“Why would I do that?” she blinked innocently. “I’m healthy.”
“…”
Benjamin and Nathaniel nearly fell from their seats, gripping the table to steady themselves. Others stared at the food in horror. They appreciated Penny’s efforts, but they couldn’t believe this was the reason they had missed out on good food last night.
She wasn’t poisoning them; she was literally trying to boost their energy and strength.
“It shouldn’t be that bad,” she muttered, taking a spoon and scooping some from the plate she used for the demo. As soon as Penny shoved the spoon into her mouth, she spat it out immediately.
Looking at the food in disbelief, her face twisted in disgust. “What in the world is this?” she gasped, lifting her gaze to everyone.
All she saw were nods of agreement.
“Oh, my god!” Penny panicked, shifting her focus to her priority: Zoren. “Renren, spit it out!”
Putting down the plate, she rushed to Zoren and smacked his back. She slapped him as if that would make him spit out the disaster he had eaten last night and this morning.
“Goodness! Why had no one told me about it?! How could you eat that crap?!”
Everyone watched Penny beat her husband’s back while glaring at everyone else. No one paid attention to Zoren, too busy processing everything from last night and this morning. Looking at each other, total confusion swirled in their eyes.
Were they relieved that the food itself was not bad and they could still eat real food—minus those vitamins? Or should they feel bad for not telling her? But then again, they simply didn’t say it because they didn’t have the heart to break her heart!
In the end, Penny calmed down as Zoren yanked her onto his lap, asking her to give him a plate without the horrendous amount of vitamins. Even if Zoren’s body was full of medicine, he couldn’t take so much.
To compensate everyone, Penny got rid of the first serving and served everyone the dishes without garnishing them with vitamins. Fortunately, she made plenty, and everyone was able to eat to their heart’s content.
Even though they were already enjoying some good food, some of them still couldn’t help but tear up. Considering what they had endured the night before, they had a new appreciation for the meal they were currently eating. Overall, breakfast ended on a good note.

“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me that you ate such an awful meal last night,” Penny complained quietly, pouting at Zoren. “Renren, what happened to complete transparency in this relationship?”
Zoren pursed his lips. “I’m sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing? I should be the one to apologize.”
Atlas darted his eyes between his sister and Zoren, shaking his head. Everyone had already moved on, but Penny still brought it up.
“Even if you know it’ll hurt her feelings, don’t let her kill you,” Atlas remarked, reminding Zoren of Hugo’s advice not long ago. “It’s not worth it to die in such a pathetic manner. Moreover, don’t make my sister a murderer.”
“I’m learning plenty every day. Thank you, First Brother.” Zoren smiled, sighing as he gazed at Penny. “Next time, I’ll be more honest.”
“You should!” she sighed, still feeling guilty about last night. No wonder Zoren hadn’t let her sleep until past midnight. That was his payback. Though his payback felt more like a reward.
“Anyway, I came here because I want to let you know that the culprit behind Allen has been caught.” Atlas cleared his throat, picking up the teacup in front of him.
Penny and Zoren shifted their attention to him, nodding.
“We heard,” she responded. “That Sven Bennet surely is something.”
“I don’t have any comments, but I’m glad he was caught.”
Penny cast Zoren a smirk. “Hubby, you can always add malicious comments about that person. He might share the Bennet name, but Slater always leaves insulting comments on his social media—under a dummy account, of course.”
“I’ll try harder.” Zoren nodded and smiled back at her. “That… fool.”
“Not bad.” Penny nodded approvingly. “You’ll improve in no time.”
“Thank you.”
“I hope I am not interrupting you for influencing your husband so negatively,” Atlas remarked, incredulous at witnessing how Penny was being such a bad influence on her husband. “Anyway, although I came here for that initially, there’s another reason that formed on my way here.”
“Hmm?” The couple furrowed their brows, their attention now solely on Atlas.
“On my way here, I stopped by the person from whom I got the dashcam footage,” Atlas said. “But when I arrived, no one was there. The neighbor told me that the family suddenly moved out.”
He paused, studying Penny’s and Zoren’s expressions. “I don’t feel good about this… coincidence. I don’t think it’s even a coincidence at all.”
