- Chapter 76 - Where's my necklace?
Where’s my necklace?
Atlas was akin to the perfect child of the Bennet Couple. He was always composed, good in school, and had great looks! There was never a day anyone could remember him being late or rushing because he was late for school.
No matter how much he studied, he would always wake up and continue early in the morning. Even on his way to school, Atlas would read a lesson in advance or just listen to an online class on his earphones.
But today, he dozed off as soon as he sat in their school service!
“Did he not sleep last night?” Slater gasped, almost horrified at the sounds coming from his eldest brother. “Oh god. Is this sound normal?”
“Challenging the star section is surely not a simple task.” Hugo sighed as this was also the first time he saw Atlas fall asleep on their way to school. “Let him. He’s tired.”
Penny lowered her head until half of her face was covered by the backrest of her seat. “Is he going to be fine?” she felt like Atlas was overworking himself so much. Should she have helped him and spoonfed him just like Slater?
As the three couldn’t take their eyes off of Atlas, Atlas’s snores suddenly stopped. When his brows creased, Penny and Slater quickly turned around and sat down stiffly. Hugo, on the other hand, looked at the window and whistled.
Slowly, Atlas’s eyes cracked open.
“Hm?” Atlas furrowed his brows as he looked around. ‘Did I fall asleep?’
He straightened his back and stretched his neck. As he did so, he noticed that the two kids in the first row were not moving an inch while Hugo was whistling quietly. It seemed nothing was amiss, but for some reason, Atlas felt like something was happening while he nodded off.
He didn’t dwell on it and brushed it off.
Atlas got so immersed last night that he slurped every knowledge he could get from the book. Although he read it before, he had a clearer understanding of it now thanks to Professor Singh’s guidance. Moreover, he needed to refresh his mind with the lessons covered. Before he knew it, it was almost morning.
‘I still feel sleepy,’ he thought, but deep in his heart, he was very happy. He felt reborn. ‘I already sent the answer to Professor Singh. I hope he reads it today.’
The four of them stayed quiet throughout the ride. Following their morning routine, they were dropped off outside the gates and they walked their way inside.
Penny caught the circle and then glanced over her shoulders at where her brothers were walking.
‘They won’t walk me in my building, right?’ she wondered. ‘Well, they only walked me back then because I’m new to this place. So, they probably won’t.’
And… she was wrong.
When she passed the circle, her three brothers were still following.
‘Geez.’ Penny mentally grumbled. She slowed down and looked back at them with a big smile. “Big Brothers, my building is near.” She paused when their reaction didn’t change. “Gotta go now! Bye! See you later!”
With that, Penny bolted away without waiting for their response. The three, who were left standing near the circle, furrowed their brows as they watched her speed away like Sonic.
“It’s the first time I’m joining her to go to school.” Hugo frowned. “It’ll be nice to see her enter her room.”
“What’s wrong with her?” Slater mumbled. “Does she not want her brothers to walk her to her building?”
Atlas squinted his eyes and cocked his head. “Is she… embarrassed to be seen walking with us?” he blurted out before he intuitively looked at Hugo and Slater.
Slater and Hugo also looked at each other, and then at Atlas.
“She won’t be embarrassed walking with me!” Slater quickly defended himself. “It should be the two of you!”
“Me?” Atlas frowned. “Why would she feel embarrassed of me?”
“Because if they found out you’re her brother, they’d have high expectations from her!”
Atlas cocked his head to the side. “Do your classmates have high expectations from you because you’re my brother?”
No.
“I think it’s the two of you. Otherwise, Penny will not mind if I walk with her.” Hugo shrugged a bit confidently. “Anyway, see you around.”

Having said that, Hugo didn’t idle because he had already seen Penny reach her building. Atlas sighed and also turned to walk in the same direction Hugo went. Meanwhile, Slater remained in the same spot for a moment.
“Why would she be embarrassed of me?” he grumbled, and then, was reminded of what sort of school life he had and how he was ostracized. His face turned sour before he sulked. “I guess it’s me.”
Slater dragged his feet toward his building with a heavy heart. On his way to his classroom, he suddenly heard a snort and some side comments from some students in the hallway.
“That’s him? The bottom feeder from section D?”
“Haha! Next time, he’s not gonna be a bottom feeder, but Keith’s slave.”
“Ah… that’s nice of Keith.”
Looking up, Slater pressed his lips as he recognized the three boys sneering at him. These guys were one of Keith’s friends from other sections.
“Hey, Slater, is it true that you challenged Keith and are planning to move up the ranks?” the boy in the middle strutted in his direction. His hands were shoved in his pockets and his blouse was open, revealing his white shirt inside.
Stopping in front of Slater, he lowered his head and wore a vicious smirk. “Look at his pathetic guy. Even if you don’t make that declaration, do you think you’re not Keith’s slave?”
Slater felt his shoulder shrink as the three boys surrounded him. His body stiffened when the boy suddenly clasped his shoulder.
“You stupid fuck —”
“Hey.”
Suddenly, they heard a voice, and before they could see who it was, the person who spoke grabbed the boy’s chest and slammed him across the wall. The boy was taken aback before the pain in his back seeped into his flesh.
“You’re on the way. Move.”
Slater’s eyes shook as they settled on the person who interrupted the foreseeable bullying. Deep lines appeared between his brows when he saw it was Mark, one of his classmates whom he heard a delinquent.
Mark casually brushed off the boys from the other section and strode off.
“Tch.” the boy winced and glared daggers at Mark’s back. “That dude. I’ll settle scores with him next time. He’ll have his time. Let’s get out of here.”
He then cast Slater a deathly look before they left.
Again, Slater was left standing in the hallway before he decided to resume his steps. He sighed in relief and then turned, only to catch James peeking his head out of their classroom before he disappeared.
“He will not report that to Penny, will he?”

Meanwhile, in building 1, when Penny walked into her classroom, she was met with a morning drama she already saw coming last week.
“Where’s my necklace?! Who stole it?!”
There, inside their classroom, was Patricia throwing a big tantrum even before their first subject started.
