Chapter 810: Allen just woke up.

Penny sat behind her desk, pausing every once in a while to think about her friend, Heart.

“Impossible,” she breathed out, narrowing her eyes as she shook her head. “Don’t tell me, Sister Belle is… Heart?”

Again, Penny shook her head to rid herself of those thoughts. What were the odds? But then again, that birthmark looked so much the same and in the same place as the one Heart had. Penny would know because she had seen it a lot of times.

Heart was mute, and the burn on her body was so severe she looked like a monster. It was what other inmates called her to mock or make fun of her. After all, Heart barely had a few strands of hair, which Penny would sometimes shave for her.

However, because that place was a prison, Penny rarely got too personal with anyone in it. She disliked people asking her questions about her life outside those walls, so she didn’t ask others either. Grace, however, was different. Grace liked poking her nose where it didn’t belong; she liked gossiping and would tell Penny about it all. It was why Grace sometimes found herself in trouble.

But that was how Penny found out that Heart had originally been in the psych ward prison and was transferred to normal prison cells after she recovered.

“If, let’s say, Belle is Heart… then…” Penny trailed off, thinking about Heart’s sentence and the reason she was behind bars. There were a few rumors about her, but Penny wasn’t sure which was true.

Some said she had gotten burned because she committed arson, only to get trapped in the house she burned. Others said her burns were already there before she ended up in prison. Either way, what Penny remembered was that Heart had been sentenced to life in prison.

“I don’t want her to be Heart, but… what if that’s the reason I felt like I’ve known her for a long time?” she wondered to herself, her heart suddenly thudding.

Penny didn’t hesitate any longer, reaching for her phone to call Yugi.

The moment the line was picked up, Penny spoke. “Add more security to Belle and her husband. No questions. Just make sure she’s safe.”

“Ah, Pen—”

Clack.

Penny didn’t wait for whatever Yugi wanted to say, tossing her phone back in the drawer. She leaned back and crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes.

“I hope she’s not Heart,” she told herself. “I really hope she’s not Heart.”

Because if Belle turned out to be that person, then Penny had just found the inmate she couldn’t locate in the state prison. After all, Penny had ordered Wild to look into a few inmates and their cases. Except for Grace, who didn’t end up in jail in this lifetime, there were a few people Penny wanted to get out for different reasons: some for help but others for other things.

As for Heart, Penny wanted to get her out of prison solely because Penny and Grace owed her a lot. However, Heart was the only one who wasn’t imprisoned yet.

“That’s weird, though,” Penny whispered. “Heart was already in prison a year or two before I got in. A year from now, I would end up in jail. So, she should be there.”

Again, Penny reached for her phone and contacted Wild. Just like the “exchange” she had with Yugi, it was the same scenario for Wild. This time, she asked him to check for an inmate named Heart in the state prison and others.

“If Uncle Wild finds her, then that’s good,” she told herself, rocking her head. “If not, then… I don’t know anymore.”

Penny pinched the bridge of her nose, massaging it for a while. Deep in her heart, she hoped her guess was wrong and that the birthmark was just a coincidence. However, as Penny had mentioned before, her instinct was never wrong.

Now, her instinct was telling her she wasn’t wrong.

“Even if Belle is Heart, at least I found out early,” she told herself. “I didn’t notice last night because it was dark, and I was too busy thinking about my grand entrance. It’s alright, nonetheless. At least, instead of getting her out of prison, I can keep her out of it to begin with.”

With that thought in mind, Penny tried to refocus on her work. She still had to finish these documents before anything else. However, she couldn’t stop pausing every so often with a sour look on her face.

“That’s her?” she scoffed. “My God… she’s pretty. I wonder how she ended up in the prison’s psych ward.”

Penny shook her head again, telling herself to stop dwelling on this discovery for now. However, the more she thought about it, the more frustrated she became. She wasn’t frustrated with Belle or Heart, but with herself.

Why wasn’t she such a nosy person in her previous life? Why didn’t she pay more attention? If only she had, she wouldn’t have so many questions in her mind. At the least, half of the questions would have been answered.

“How frustrating,” she grumbled to herself, only to arch a brow when her phone started ringing. Her lips curved down, guessing it was Yugi. She had hung up on him, so she was certain he was calling back to complain.

Much to her surprise, it wasn’t Yugi calling. It wasn’t even Wild, who could be calling back because he had already gotten some quick results.

“Why is First Brother calling me now?” she wondered, reaching out to pick up her phone. Before Penny could answer, she looked up, checking her memory to see if she had done something that would expect an angry Atlas. Convinced she had done nothing to infuriate Atlas, she answered.

“Yes, First Brother?” she answered sweetly, sliding her eyes to her right as if waiting for some unexpected turn. Her smile quickly faded as Atlas spoke. “What did you say?”

Penny furrowed her brows as she straightened her back. “Allen is awake?”

Atlas was standing outside the ward, holding the phone to his ear. He glanced at the window through the door, watching some doctors checking on Allen, who was already awake.

“Yes,” he said. “Allen just woke up.”
