Chapter 815: How can I do it with these people in here?
[Short Flashback]
“Kick Atlas Bennet out of the company and get it done as soon as possible. The pill bottle in front of you will help. You know there’s a quicker and easier way to get there without having to go through the hassle of the natural route.”
Stephen sat in a private dining room, his eyes falling on the bottle of pills in front of him. His gaze then shifted to the cell phone just inches from the bottle. No one else was in the room besides him and the cell phone, which had been served along with his tea and the pill bottle by the server.
“That quicker and easier way…” Stephen trailed off, clasping his hands in his lap. “You mean you want me to kill the chairman?”
The voice on the other end of the line chuckled. “Aren’t you a little too direct, Mr. Bennet? I’m not asking you to kill Chairman Bennet. I’m simply… suggesting, and I’m giving you ammunition in case you decide to go that route.”
“…” Stephen snorted. “Are you trying to pin all the blame on me?”
“If you can do it without resorting to this, then by all means, Mr. Bennet. However, we both know that taking down Atlas Bennet and snatching his position the natural way is impossible for you.”
The veins in Stephen’s forehead protruded, but he couldn’t retort. No matter how much he despised this idea, it was the truth. Taking down Atlas the natural way was impossible. After all, Atlas wasn’t just a clever man—he had been trained by Charles and guided by Haines.
Those two had worked hand in hand in the past for Global Prime Logistics. If not for Charles and Haines, the company wouldn’t have been in a good place when Atlas took over.
“Good luck, Mr. Bennet,” the man on the other end remarked meaningfully. “May I hear good news soon. Your son’s fate is in your hands now.”
Clack.
Stephen closed his eyes and exhaled slowly. He gripped the edge of the table, feeling his entire body weaken. His head throbbed slightly as he thought of the situation his son had gotten himself into.
“That damn Sven…” he hissed, blaming his son for getting involved with such shady people. If Sven hadn’t gotten involved with them, he wouldn’t be behind bars. Even so, Stephen couldn’t let his son rot in there.
Slowly, Stephen reopened his eyes. His gaze immediately fell on the bottle of pills in front of him, and he sighed heavily again. He reached out for it, staring at it with hesitation in his eyes.
“One pill from this can kill. But don’t worry. What’s good about it is that it won’t leave any evidence because, before the person dies, they’ll expel it from their body before dropping dead. You’ll understand once you use it.”
Those were the words the person on the call had spoken earlier.
“He wants me to…” Stephen clasped his hair in distress, feeling his stress levels peak. “… Oh, God.”
No matter how much Stephen hated someone, he never thought he could bring himself to kill with his own hands. He would curse and even wish someone dead, but doing it himself was an entirely different matter.
But here he was.
—
Seated on the couch, Stephen clutched the bottle of pills that contained a deadly substance.
Could he do it?
Just then, he heard the door creak open. Lifting his eyes to the door, Stephen quickly hid the bottle and stood as a sign of respect for the person entering—Chairman Bennet.
‘Can I do it?’ he asked himself once again. ‘Can I?’
As he watched the chairman enter, Stephen found himself repeatedly questioning whether he could carry out such a vile act. Could he really drug Chairman Bennet—the man who had given them such a good life—and send him to his death?
Could he really kill Chairman Bennet?
‘I can’t do it,’ Stephen told himself, mentally shaking his head. However, as he watched Chairman Bennet struggle with each step, walking with his cane, a thought crossed his mind. ‘But he’s old… and no one would suspect if he had a heart attack, would they?’
Sven, on the other hand, was still young. He had a bright future ahead if Stephen focused on him and monitored him. But the chairman had already lived a long life, hadn’t he?
Chairman Bennet glared up at Stephen, frowning. “What are you looking at, huh?”
“Uh.” Stephen snapped out of his thoughts and cleared his throat, forcing a smile. “I’m just… nothing, Chairman. Wait, let me help you.”

“He said he’s not that old for that.”
Suddenly, Stephen heard the familiar voice of a man coming from behind Chairman Bennet. When he looked at the entrance, he saw Charles walking in. The surprise hadn’t worn off when Slater suddenly peeked his head in.
“Grandpa, can I come in too and join the big leagues?” Slater asked excitedly, earning a grumpy look from his grandfather. “Can I? Can I?”
“Suit yourself!” Chairman Bennet grumbled, glaring at Charles for bringing Slater along. “You rarely visit me, and when you do, you bring this little devil.”
“Thanks, Grandpa~!” Slater happily dashed inside, ignoring Chairman Bennet’s comment. He quickly ran to Stephen’s side, grinning from ear to ear.
Stephen frowned, jolting when Slater suddenly appeared beside him. Seeing the bright look on Slater’s face, his expression scrunched up in dismay.
“What are you smiling about, boy?” Stephen grumbled, casting a look at Charles and Chairman Bennet. “Chairman, I requested to see you so we can talk privately.”
“Ah, I know, I know,” Chairman Bennet waved dismissively as he sat down in the wing chair. “Blame these two for ruining my mood for anything private.”
Charles smiled and took a seat across from Stephen. “Stephen, don’t mind us. I’m simply visiting Dad to make sure he’s still alive.”
“You brat!” Chairman Bennet roared at his son, throwing the first thing he could grab at him.
Charles dodged it expertly, grinning proudly at Chairman Bennet and then at Stephen. “I guess no one can take this skill away from me—growing up with such a father.”
“Wow, Dad! So cool!” Slater clapped, making Charles smirk while Chairman Bennet’s frown deepened.
Meanwhile, Stephen stood frozen in place, still in the same spot.
