Chapter 834: Big sister
[MAMA Restaurant]
Right after Charles, Haines, and Stephen’s ride arrived at the restaurant, Jessa was already standing outside to welcome them. When Haines tried to open the door, Jessa suddenly kicked it back to make way for herself, leaving Haines momentarily stunned.
Knock knock.
“Who is she?” Stephen narrowed his eyes, staring at the woman knocking on the side of his window. “What kind of brute does your wife hire for the parking space?”
“Did she just… kick the car door?” Haines looked back at Charles, unable to believe that, even now, Jessa was still ruthless with him. If only Haines knew that Jessa’s ruthlessness extended to everyone, not just him.
“Uh, why do I have to see her immediately?” Charles mumbled, shaking his head as he shifted his eyes to Stephen. “You should open the window.”
Stephen frowned. “And why would I do that? I don’t even know her. You two, get out and leave me alone. You’ve already arrived.”
“Yes, we did, but you saw how she kicked the door for Haines, right?” Charles sighed. “Just open the goddamn window.”
“Charles Bennet, I’ve had enough of your nonsense. You’re no longer the head of the family, nor do you have any position in the company. Therefore, you cannot just boss me around.”
“I’m not bossing you around. That woman will break the window if you don’t.” Charles jerked his chin toward the window, making Stephen turn his head.
As soon as Stephen’s eyes landed on the window, he saw Jessa walking away, only to reach for the small barricade and drag it toward the car.
“What the— is she insane?!” Stephen gasped, seeing that Jessa didn’t seem like she was planning to stop. “Is she a rogue?!”
“She’s worse,” Charles and Haines answered in unison, making Stephen look back at them in disbelief. Seeing the seriousness in their eyes, he didn’t question this anymore.
They might not have gotten along well, but Stephen grew up with these two. Thus, without taking his eyes off them, he wound the window down. Otherwise, that crazy woman might actually break his window.
“Oh!” Jessa clapped, then knocked on the window as it was only halfway open. “Open.”
Stephen glanced at Haines and Charles, only to see them nod at him. Another sharp breath slipped past his nostrils as he rolled the window down completely.
“Oh, good boy,” Jessa mused, resting her arms on the window as she bent over. “So, you are his and his cousin, huh?”
She pointed at Charles and Haines before flashing Stephen a big smile. “And you’re the one who told Alison our cheap restaurant would go bankrupt.”
“So what—” Stephen’s breath hitched when Charles suddenly stretched his arm and hooked it over his shoulder. He looked at Charles in dismay, only to see the latter smiling at Jessa nervously. ‘What does he think he’s doing?!’
“Hey, Jessa, dearest big sister, that’s not what he said.”
Jessa arched a brow. “Then what did he say?”
“That…” Charles trailed off, scrambling for something to say, but his conscience was getting the better of him. “Is Alison inside?”
“Yes, she told me you and Haines would be coming over for our regular dinner.” Jessa frowned but felt lenient enough to give these boys a break. She snapped her eyes at Stephen, her frown deepening. “You’re the oldest, aren’t you?”
“Huh?”
“Among the three of you,” Jessa clarified. “I can tell you’re the oldest because you’re the grumpiest. Charles is obviously the middle child here.”
Stephen frowned, shrugging Charles off. “It’s nice meeting you, but I’m just here to drop them off.” He then shot a look at Haines and Charles. “Get out.”
Stephen had no time for this. He didn’t know Jessa, and he wasn’t interested in getting to know her. From what he could already tell, she was the crazy type, and he didn’t want to be involved with more crazy people. He had enough of that already; adding more people to worry about would surely drive him to insanity.
With that thought in mind, Stephen waited for Charles and Haines to leave. But just as the two were doing so, Jessa smirked.
“You’re getting out too,” Jessa said, knocking on the inside wall of the door.
Stephen frowned. “Madam, I’m sorry, but I don’t have time—”

“You seem to have misunderstood what I said just now, little brother,” Jessa scoffed. “I’m not asking you to join us. I’m telling you—commanding you. That’s an entirely different thing.”
“What?!”
“Get out now, so I can show you why our restaurant won’t go bankrupt.” Jessa straightened her back and tapped the window again. “Come out. I’ll make you eat what you said in the past.”
Stephen’s frown deepened even more as he looked at Haines and Charles, who gave him one last look before stepping out of the car. Their eyes told him he’d better listen, or else…
‘How could they just listen to this cheap woman—’ Stephen’s thoughts were abruptly interrupted when a hand suddenly grabbed his chest and pulled him out with such a strong force.
Jessa smirked. “Don’t wait to get dragged out. Come on—double time, dear.” She then released his chest, patting it mildly. “Come on, don’t be shy.”
For a second, Stephen was left stunned, almost hitting his head on the door when she grabbed him. Right then and there, he understood why Charles and Haines were listening to her as if she were their big sister.
Jessa was indeed a big sister—she disciplined like one.
“What are you waiting for?” Jessa’s question, as she walked away and looked back at him, snapped him back to the present.
Stephen jolted, nodding in understanding. He didn’t even think, just listening to his survival instinct and following Jessa’s command. Jumping out to follow her as if afraid to get a beating, Stephen didn’t complain.
As he did so, Charles and Haines exchanged a subtle smile. Haines didn’t dwell on it, walking slowly toward the restaurant’s entrance. Meanwhile, Charles glanced over his shoulder at where Stephen’s car was parked.
A glint flickered across Charles’s eyes as they sharpened, snapping forward, knowing full well that the driver who had brought them here was someone even Stephen didn’t know.
