Chapter 877: It’s hard to tell what’s going to happen these days.
Meanwhile, in the men’s restroom…
Not everyone was happy about the change of attire to a school uniform, but the majority liked it. One of those in the majority was… Atlas. Wearing some of the Penny accessories that Slater had brought with him was Atlas’s way of teasing Penny, knowing it would horrify her. However, he didn’t plan to wear them throughout the event. He didn’t even plan to attend.
Therefore, having a change of clothes—even though they were school uniforms—wasn’t all that bad.
When Atlas stepped out of the cubicle where he had changed, another person from the next cubicle also stepped out. They looked at each other briefly before Atlas studied Jonathan for a moment and then wordlessly moved to the sink.
Jonathan kept his eyes on Atlas for a moment before approaching the sink and placing his clothes on the wide surface to fold them. As Jonathan folded his clothes, Atlas, who was washing his hands, couldn’t help but glance at how the man was folding them.
“You do a lot of housework?” Atlas asked quietly, earning a look from Jonathan. “It’s just how you fold your clothes.”
Jonathan didn’t answer immediately, watching Atlas peel his gaze off him. “Growing up, yes.”
“That’s strange.”
“Strange?” Jonathan slowly raised a brow, wondering what Atlas meant by that. “What does that mean?”
“The obvious.”
“…” Jonathan let out a shallow laugh, facing Atlas, feeling a little… threatened. He wasn’t sure if that was the right term, but it was unpleasant to hear something vague from someone like Atlas.
Did Penny tell her brother about going back in time? Was Atlas aware of the past? A flood of questions swirled in Jonathan’s mind as he stared at Atlas’s side profile.
When Atlas noticed Jonathan’s stare, he raised his brows and asked, “What?”
“Nothing,” Jonathan replied with a short smile. “I was just wondering what you meant by ‘the obvious,’ because the obvious didn’t feel obvious at all.”
“Ah.” Atlas blinked. “This school is for the rich. I didn’t expect you to be doing housework when parents usually want their children to focus on school. Isn’t that obvious?”
“Ah… so, that’s what you meant.” Jonathan couldn’t help but laugh shortly, nodding in understanding.
“What did you think I meant?” Atlas tilted his head to the side.
Jonathan maintained his smile and shook his head. “Nothing. But my parents preferred that I do well in school and also know how to live by myself.”
“You got good parents.”
“You think?”
“Mhm.”
“Does that mean your parents aren’t good?”
Atlas, who had been fixing a button on his sleeve, stopped and looked up at Jonathan. “They’re good too. They ask us to do chores. I just don’t do them. Too busy studying.”
“Ah…” Jonathan rocked his head mildly, snapping his eyes at the other cubicle behind Atlas as Dean came out. Just as he was about to bid Atlas goodbye, the latter had already finished buttoning his sleeve.
“I’ll see you around,” Atlas said, not waiting for a reply as he started walking out. However, just as he was about to pass Jonathan, he stopped, turned his head, and added, “I heard you were Nina’s client. Thank you for standing up for her.”
Jonathan smiled at him and faced him squarely. “You’re welcome.”
“I hope it stays that way.”
“Hmm?”
“See you around, Jonathan.” After saying that, Atlas started walking out of the men’s restroom, where Hugo and the varsity players were waiting for him.
Meanwhile, Jonathan stood still, his eyes on Atlas’s retreating figure. ‘Did he just call me by my name?’ he wondered, his smile twisting briefly. Now he had other things to think about.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Atlas knowing Jonathan’s name could be because he had heard it from someone earlier. Perhaps Nina had told her family about her client and accidentally blurted out his name because her family was like that. It could also be that Penny told him—being the matriarch of the family, Zoren could’ve told Penny, and then Penny told her first brother. As far as Jonathan knew, Penny and Atlas were closer.
‘There’s no way Penelope Bennet had told her first brother about the past,’ Jonathan told himself. ‘I don’t think she would want him to know… because he wouldn’t want to live if he knew how he shunned his own sister and let her die.’
With that thought in mind, Jonathan pushed it to the back of his mind. He didn’t think about it much. Although it was concerning that Atlas also knew him, Jonathan had been prepared for it when he announced to Zoren that he was Zoren’s half-brother.
But just as Jonathan turned, he realized Dean was still inside, washing his hands at the sink. ‘He’s been washing his hands since stepping out.’
Dean wasn’t saying a word, cleaning his already clean nails. Meanwhile, Jonathan kept his gaze on him without speaking.
‘Dean Pierson.’ Jonathan briefly raised his brows, turning to fold his clothes again to put them in a locker the people who dragged him here had given him.
“Did they also take your keys?” Jonathan asked, keeping his eyes on the clothes he was folding meticulously.
Dean didn’t answer, which wasn’t surprising given his personality.
“They took my keys, telling me they were afraid I’d sneak out. I don’t know if it makes me angry or laugh, but I did laugh somehow,” Jonathan casually continued, stacking his folded clothes before flashing Dean a smile. “I’ll see you around, Director Pierson.”
Having said that, Jonathan turned his back on Dean and walked away without another word. It wasn’t until Jonathan reached the entrance that Dean spoke.
“Be careful on your way.” Dean turned off the faucet, glancing at Jonathan. “This fan club… or rather, a cult, is quite terrifying in its own way. Don’t get caught up in something… bad for your health.”
Jonathan looked back at him and smiled. “Thank you for the reminder. You should… take care too, Director Pierson. These days, it’s hard to tell what’s going to happen.”
Dean and Jonathan stared at each other before Jonathan flashed him one last bright smile and left. Dean, on the other hand, kept staring at the entrance before glancing at the clothes on the sink that he hadn’t folded because he didn’t know how.
He pulled his phone out and dialed his assistant’s number as he left. “Pick up my things in the…” Dean trailed off, seeing Ray still waiting for him outside the men’s restroom. Seeing the smile on Ray’s face, and then catching sight of Jonathan getting dragged away by the fan club officers, his face twitched.
Who would have thought their warnings to each other would come true so quickly?
‘This reunion itself is bad for my health too.’
