Chapter 890: Ready, get set, go!
“On the right corner…” Lily’s lively voice echoed through the speakers again, mimicking the announcers at a boxing match, as if this were a different kind of game. “…give it up for Senior Max’s team! On his team were:…”
Hugo rested his hands on his hips, watching as Max and his team roared enthusiastically with the crowd. His expression was plain, focused on how to win this game, while Max seemed a little too fired up as if he were ready to unleash the beast he had been suppressing for years.
“Are we playing basketball?” Atlas wondered aloud, tilting his head. “This tone of announcing… I think I’ve heard it at some wrestling match before.”
“If this is a wrestling match or even a boxing match, it’s a win for sure,” Hugo murmured back, shaking his head at Lily’s questionable way of announcing this entire battle.
“On the left corner…!” Lily continued after Max’s team had their chance to pump up their morale. “Senior Hugo’s team! In this team is the ever-smart and serious Atlas Bennet, the unbeatable top of the star section, Dean Pierson~, and the former ace player of the basketball team, Hugo Bennet! Rounding out the team is the new transfer to our school, Blacky!”
“Blacky?” Zoren furrowed his brows, wondering if there had been a new addition to their team. When he turned his head, his eyes landed on Mark, sitting on the bench. “Did he register his name as Blacky? How strange.”
Atlas, Hugo, Dean, and Jonathan couldn’t help but look at Zoren with twitching faces. For once, all four of them shared the same thought.
‘He is Blacky.’
Even Mark had the same thought when he saw his boss looking in his direction. ‘It’s not me, Master. I’m sorry I didn’t know Miss President would write your name like that.’
“Lastly, we have a… plus-one — the import of the team!” Lily added, earning everyone’s attention.
Hugo’s team slowly shifted their gaze to Jonathan. As for Jonathan, he tried to keep a smile, but no matter how hard he tried, his facade cracked.
“An… import?” Jonathan asked himself. But more than that, he was starting to wonder if coming here to gain something was even worth all of this bother.
Like everyone else, Jonathan had other important things to do instead of participating in all of this. However, even if he tried to sneak out, it felt like the officers in this fan club had radar, knowing if someone wanted to slip away.
‘I should’ve just acted like a mean person,’ he told himself, sighing heavily. ‘But that’s a little too late, isn’t it?’
No matter what their regrets were, they couldn’t change anything anymore. What happened already happened. The damage was done. It was the same for Atlas, who had pissed off his sister. The same for Dean, who had let Ray live this long, and for Hugo, who had let his anger get the better of him.
They all had regrets… except Zoren.
“Get into your position, team!” Lily remarked cheerfully, watching all the players walk onto the court and take their places.
“Go, Senior Max~”
“Max~! I love you~!”
“Hugo, teach him a lesson!” the basketball team roared.
“We placed all our bets on you!”
“You can do it! Don’t show them mercy!”
“Atlas, show your miracle again! Don’t falter! Show them that even if you’re a robot, you’re a high-functioning, athletic robot!”
These cheers came from the basketball team, earning a dead look from Atlas. He then decided to ignore them.
“There’s no such thing as a miracle,” Atlas murmured to himself, shaking his head.
“Go, kids~! I’ll treat you somewhere nice if you win~” Charles cheered persuasively, grinning as his team looked back at him.
“Transferee, you can do it!”
“Yes, handsome man~!”
“We’re rooting for you!”
Some girls from the audience cheered sweetly, and even though Zoren ignored them, Penny’s ears perked up. Her right brow arched as her eyes searched for the group who were cheering for her husband so sweetly. But before she could say anything, Benjamin suddenly rose from his seat and yelled louder.

“Go, transferee! I’m rooting for you, classmate~!”
When Penny turned to look where Benjamin was, she realized Benjamin was actually just sitting behind her.
‘He’s… more jealous than I am?’ she wondered to herself, but then, why was she surprised? ‘Initially, I actually thought he was my husband’s wife, but eventually, I accepted that Renren has a work wife.’
And that was Benjamin.
“Hey, Penny.” Just then, Penny’s attention was stolen as she saw Nina excusing herself and taking a seat next to her. Nina flashed Penny a smile. “I was looking for you. Good thing all this yelling was so loud that I saw you.”
Penny tilted her head to the side. “I thought you’d be with Ginnie over there?” She pointed at the other side of the court, where Ginnie was seated at the desk, as if she were part of the committee.
“She asked me to join her, but I told her I wanted to watch this with you,” Nina explained amicably. “Back then, you were able to watch with Lily and Ginnie. Considering our relationship back then, even if I wanted to take a seat, I didn’t have the courage.”
Twelve years ago, during the basketball game where Atlas played because of a bet, Nina came to check. There were other seats available, but then she saw Penny and her friends having fun together. Nina secretly thought it seemed fun, even though Penny was just cheering for them.
“Well.” Penny grinned, watching Nina’s smile stretch. “There’s no such thing as being a little too late, is there?”
“Mhm!”
“Did you place your bet on any team?”
“Penny, I don’t gamble.”
“But it’s fun!”
“I know, but I don’t have the extra money to do so,” Nina chuckled, setting her eyes on the court as everyone settled into their positions. “Just being here to experience this is… good enough for me.”
Penny blinked, staring at Nina. “But if you had the money, you would bet, right?”
Nina’s brows rose as she looked back at Penny, smiling. “Of course!”
“Goodness.” Penny shook her head. And just like that, everyone settled into their seats, waiting for the game to start. When they heard Lily announce, “Ready, team? Get set… go!” everyone’s faces twitched, only to snap out of it when the whistle blew.
